I made the trip to Arizona to represent the SoCal Club at the Annual VCA President’s Meeting. Our new National VCA President, Marv Spatz, brought the meeting to order with opening remarks and introduction of all attendees. We got an inside look at what Dodge/Chrysler/SRT have in the works and some of the exciting changes that have been incorporated in the new cars. No, we weren’t given any further details on the 2012 Viper, other than they are still actively working on it. Based on the improvements that all the other car models received, I’m sure that the changes in the 2012 Viper will be nothing short of incredible. Dodge definitely has a new energy flowing through it and it is a great sign.
Equally so for the VCA. The VCA is in the midst of some very big changes and we are lucky to be in the position that we are in. With JR Thompson stepping down from Club management, The VCA has taken on the responsibility of managing everything from Membership to the Viper Magazine. I’m happy to report that the VCA Officers are working VERY hard to ensure that our club will be self sufficient for many years to come. Dodge has been keeping a very close eye on our club and with each successful step we take, more respect and confidence is gained which leads us to a relationship that NO other car club in the world can say they have with their respective Manufacturer.
Being present at the meeting was a great opportunity for me to talk with the other Regional Presidents (many of which I have met at previous VOI’s of other events) and learn about what the other clubs are doing. We are lucky to have year round good weather and let me say that many of the other Regions were quite jealous of that.
Two items that I can share from the meeting is that a very cool raffle car just around the corner and that Marv smiled when asked about VOI-12.
While many of the other Regions are dormant, the So Cal Club calendar remains quite busy. We had picture perfect weather for our Viper Photo Shoot We had 12 cars come out for the shoot and Scott Hirko’s hard work all day long resulted in hundreds of magazine quality images.
On February 12th, the Club will be heading to Santa Anita for a special day at the Races. We will be enjoying an American BBQ from the infield and will bet on the ponies. Santa Anita Picnic and Races
On February 26th, the Club has got you covered. We have a great social event planned and hosted by Club Member Anthony Matranga. We will meet and cruise out to Palm Desert for some Bowling fun at Fantasy Springs Resort followed by a backyard BBQ at Anthony’s home. Bowling & BBQ
Care for something a bit more spirited? Then head out to Auto Club Speedway and drive the Roval. Dan Everts will be out there to drive and help our members with their need for speed. ACS Roval with Speedventures
