If you’re a fan of the Dodge Viper, 2010 has been a bittersweet year. Yes, models like the ACR, 1.33, Final Edition, and the awesome ACR-X have made being a Viper-phile easier than ever, but all good things must come to an end. In fact, the very last 2010 Dodge Viper rolled off the assembly line in Detroit, Michigan yesterday morning.
Like many of the last Vipers built, the final Viper, a 2010 Viper SRT10 Coupe, was extremely customized. You can thank owner D’Ann Rauh for that: after begging Dodge brand president Ralph Gilles for the last car, Gilles consented, so long as it was “something special.â€
Although Rauh and her husband own over 40 Vipers already, there’s no doubt this snake will stand out from the crowd. Working in conjunction with Dodge’s design team, Rauh selected a custom bronze gold paint, which was supplied by House of Kolor. The gilded hue is contrasted by a pair of copper racing stripes, which sport airbrushed images of Viper-significant racetracks, applied by SRT’s own Bob Soroka.
Rauh’s Viper also received unique forged aluminum five-spoke wheels, which were treated to a coat of dark graphite paint. Inside, the car received a bronze leather interior from Venzano Viper, while trim pieces — including the center stack — were treated to an anodized gold finish.
Armchair quarterbacks may hem and haw over the color scheme, but the only opinion that matters to Rauh is her own — and she loves it.
“It’s a beautiful car,†she said. “I was in shock seeing it [on the line] — I realize it’s my car, but it’s still a little bit unbelievable.â€
Will Rauh’s coupe be the last Dodge Viper made? That depends entirely on Chrysler’s product planners. A next-generation model may be in the works for 2012 or 2013, but no definitive word has been given.
