Putting this up to see if there is interest in a cruise last weekend of September, early October or November to the San Bernadino Mountains, Oak Glen Apple Festival and the Palms to Pines Highway folage and the Cleveland Forest.  This could be a "3 DINER DAY" event.  Huell Howser did a very nice California's Gold on the mountain village of Oak Glen, east of Yucaipa.  Oak Glen is famous for their apples and Apple Festival.  It is high up in the San Bernadino Mtns with a nice drive.  Idea is this.  (see attached map)

Diner #1: Start out at Flo's Diner at the Chino Airport.  Meet and have breakfast with the usual Sausage and Bisquits.  Leave by caravan in groups to the 60 > N I-15 > the E I-10 to the Live Oak Canyon Road and on into Oak Glen for the Apple Festival.  Leave Oak Glen the back way back to Banning, take the east bound I-10 to Hwy 243 south. Pick up the "Pines to Palms Highway" (243) up the mountain through the fall folage into Idyllwild for lunch.

Diner # 2:  Arrive in Idyllwild and arrange for lunch at Julie's or one of the other diners in town.  Folage should be excellent this time of year and possibility of a storm remote. After Lunch, continue on Hwy 74 in the direction of Temecula.

Diner #3;  Cruise through Anza, take a few winnings from Cahuilla Creek Casino, and advantage of their free drink policy, and then on the desert coutry roads into Temecula for dinner at a well known diner in town.  Other option is to continue down to the Pala Casino and have dinner there.

Would probably be a good day's event.  Some excellent roads and spectacular scenery, etc.  I imagine the weather would also be perfect and the days not to short to allow everyone time to return home.  I think the Apple Festival in Oak Glen and the folage along the "Pines to Palms Hwy" are well worth a Mini event.

Lets see who is interested and if enough people are, then maybe we can get some planning done through the club.

Would not want this to be too close to the Club's Hearst Castle event on October 27 weekend, so maybe September 29, October 6 or November 10 are possibilities.   Wonder if racecars can arrange for a stop at the Charlie Brown Pumpkin Patch in Idyllwild maybe even incorporate this route as a modificatoin to the Great Pumpkin Run this year? >2

Comments are appreciated.

racecars, you ROCK, I believe if there was a Viper run to Hell and Back, you be the 1st in line!  I think we can combine the Classic Great Pumpkin Run with the Apple Festival and a 3 Diner event this fall (The Great Pumpkin Run is basically in this run, correct?).  It would be a great run, about 150 miles starting at Flo's in Chino to Oak Glen then to Banning, up 243 to Idyllwild and then back to Temecula.  Any suggestions for dining in Temecula or would the Pala Casino offer a better deal?  Can you arrange for us to get a Viper Pumpkin for each car to boot?

Dave,

I have a knee osteotomy course in NYC about that time, but would be willing to come home early for this run.  I will check my schedule.  The 6th of October is probably out as I am probably in Switzerland and London.  But not sure on that one either.  I will check, but I believe Nov 10, would be better, cooler and if we get a good AM start should be doable in the sunshine.

I believe Lance would also be 2nd in line on the "Trip to Hell and Back in a Viper"!  If it has Viper somewhere in the announcement, racecars and pchviper are always there!

The "Original Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown Run" is the baby of racecars.  I think the slight modification of the run as described above offers some great extras, like the vistas and folage on the Palms to Pines Hwy from Banning to Anza, Flo's Sausage and bisquit gravy breakfast in Chino, free drinks at the Cahuilla Creek Casino, and a visit to Oak Glenn Apple Festival, (I believe every weekened in the fall).  Big Brakes is our major Viper Club cruise excitement injector!  >5

Dave, What about PEchanga Casino south of Temecula?

Dave,

Perhaps some red and Race Yellow Vipers at the front of the pack with perhaps Art Pen'as orange SRT/10 representing Charlie Brown's pumpkin would be appropriate?  Red and Yellow Harvest colors and Art's Orange Viper to inaugurate the 07 Great Pumpkin Run???  >5
