Ken and Lena Alker registered!  Will be CaraVipering with everyone on Wednesday and leaving with the Monday group.  I reserved a room at the Cannery on the way in and Little America while there.  Has anyone reserved a hotel for the way back yet for Monday night (where)?

NOTE: The room Ben got is probably the "Standard Courtyard" which is not shown in the VOI registration information and the salespeople don't seem to offer it.  Cate (Cateryna) told me the Standard Courtyard rooms are unavailable for under $99 at this time, end of story, forget it, so I got the $109 "Deluxe Garden" as advertised.  I then called back and Julene answered (manager) who gladly switched me to the Standard Courtyard room for $79 (no questions asked, no fuss); don't ask me, but it worked.  They told me the only difference between the two is that the Standard is 350sqft while the Deluxe is 450sqft and the Deluxe opens into a hallway whereas the Standard opens to the outside.

Well, having driven from LA to SLC over the last several days to reposition an SUV into Park City, I thought I would give a viewpoint to the run.  First of all, it is double separate freeways all the way.  Drive to Las Vegas from West LA is 4.5 hours.  Depending on traffic.  Stayed in Vegas and saw the Cirque du Soleil "LOVE" Beatles show at the Mirage.  A most excellent production, I would see it again tonight if I was there.  All parking at all casinos and on the strip is free at all hotels.

The drive from Vegas to SLC is another animal.  7 hours, saw 7 Utah Highway Patrol, one with a white silver stripped Shelby GT mustang equiped with police radar electronics.  A short stop at the Shelby American Museum and headquarters is an option at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway on the way out of Vegas.  Mesquite offers very reasonable rooms, $24.95 at the Virgin River Casino, there is also the Casa Blanca Casino, nice place.  Mesquite is about 70 miles northeast of Vegas and would cut down the drive to SLC by probably 90 minutes. Virgin River Canyon run is all within Arizona 15 miles east of Mesquite and an excellent twisty.  Saw no HW Patrol in Arizona, Virgin River Canyon has been know to have them occasionally, but it is so far out of the way, it is generally a great run..  St. George to SLC is beautiful, small towns, right through the center of the Great Basin National Park, absolutely no one there.  Small towns offer fast food and gas, that is about it.  Cedar City offers biggest choice of lunch, about 40 miles north of St. George.  The rest of the way is a speed trap.  I-15 south of Provo to SLC about 60 miles in length, exceeds LA traffic congestion.  Leaving Vegas at 8:00 AM  puts one, with a stop for gas and lunch, about 3 PM into this traffic congestion corridor, so just be aware of it. I would not think you could get from LV to SLC in under than 6 hours with stops and speed traps. If you are towing, then add a couple of hours, it is about 484 miles from Vegas.  Weather was excellent.

Weather end of September is a little bit of a crap shoot around Provo to SLC area.  Not infrequently is there a storm at that time (meaning snow), but it should be okay.  Fall tree color changes should be still viewable, although a week or two past prime time.

An excellent run, the run from Vegas to SLC seemed about twice as long as LA to Vagas.

Hey Doc,

Thanks for all the information, now the only question that remains is...are you going to VOI XI?  >v  You should know that the caravan is in terrible need of a SSG Viper to represent.

I don't know yet, Arturo del Toro, that would be having the SSG too long in the sun and putting too many miles on it (hee hee)!  I better check with the Flyin' Hawai'ian about driving that far.  He is the Big Kahuna for long distance driving!  I may come but would fly up.  Also thinking about possiby having a lunch reception in Deer Valley at my home when the So Cal vipers drive to Park City.  The drive to Park City is only 20 miles from SLC and is nice but it goes by fast.  Not much to do on this drive except driving down main street, seeing the old mining town and western atmosphere.  A better drive would be SLC to Evnaston Wyoming, about 90 miles both ways.  Echo Canyon is a great road.  Also, it is about 20 degrees colder in Park Cith, than in SLC.  Hoping for some decent weather, but for an example, couple of years ago, the 2nd weekend in October had 8 inches of snow on the ground in Park City.  Not sure how snakes do in snow but I would suspect it is a natural snake repellent!   %n %o   %s %n %o %w    %f %o %r    %v %i %p %e %r %s

In London today, Lisbon tomorrow, so far have not seen a viper anywhere!

Hey Doc,

A run to Deer Valley and lunch could be fun.

Keep us posted on your availability.

Hey Doc,  If you decide to fly I would be honored to have you as my co-pilot on the run. Don't worry about putting too many miles on the SSG, once it reaches 10k miles I'll take it off your hands so that you can buy a SSG ACR =27.

DEDLY4U

Well Doc, that is one thing about ART, he has a lot of heart by offering to take the old SSG off your hands.  Your SSG will make a great high school graduation gift for Grace.

Cheryl and I are officially registered for VOI 11  >g

Woohoo Uncle Mike, glad you and Auntie Cheryl finally registered, it's about time  >v  It is going to be a blast.

Regarding Grace's graduation gift, it's the right color since her birthstone is the emerald, now I just have to put a plan in action to make it a reality.  In about 16 years Grace is going to be demanding point-bys from her other Uncles the "Slowin' Hawaiian" and the "Once Fast Eddie" =15 <2

What day is the official So Cal Viper VOI 11 cruise day?  Thursday or Friday of the VOI 11?  Park City is only about 24 miles east of SLC on I-80.  Nice run, fall colors, not very far, and easy cruising.  Need to know what day the Park City Run is.

We don't know - don't think the VCA has worked these details out yet.  And most likely, it will be either Friday or Saturday.

As soon as we know  <I - we'll definitely post it.

Anyone considering transporting their car to VOI? I'm interested in doing that and would like to combine with others to reduce the cost.
