Post by: PCH VIPER on April 15, 2011, 10:50:59 PM
Viper Shoot Out  June 26, 2011

Come on out for the first ever Viper Shoot Out !  Scott Hirko has made arrangements for the Club to shoot trap at the Oak Tree Gun Club.

We will meet at the Super Car Sunday car show in the Valley.
Westfield Promenade Mall
6100 Topanga Canyon Blvd
Woodland Hills   CA   91367

Come as early or late as you like.  We will leave the car show at 10:00 and cruise over to the Gun Club.  Bring your own shot gun or use one of the rentals.  Never shoot trap before?  No worries, There will be a Range Safety Officer on hand to help out along with many of our members that have done this before.  After shooting, we will enjoy a nice BBQ lunch at the club ($18.00 per person)
www.oaktreegunclub.com (http://www.oaktreegunclub.com)

If you bring your own shotgun and ammo, the cost will be $8.00 per round of 25 targets.
For those that do not have shotguns, we will rent 1 shotgun for each field.  The cost will be $15.50 per round of 25 targets.  This cost includes the cost of ammo for each round.

So who are the sharp shooters?

Hey guys and gals this will be a fun event for everyone. Don't be afraid to come out to the gun range even if you have never shot a gun before. There are several members that are experienced shooters as well as a range guide for us. If you have never shot at clay pigeons before it's a blast! My wife is not an experienced shotgun shooter but she has so much fun when we go, so ladies don't be turned off by the guns. There is also a pistol range for people that would like to go shoot some plates or paper targets bring out your guns and don't forget ammo. The range has a full pro shop for anyone that wants to rent pistols or shotguns that can be done there as well. Can't wait to see you all out there for this one. It could be pretty hot there in June so bring the hats and sunscreen. <11

Haven't shot a gun since my last hunt, which was for a trophy Bison in Idaho about 8-10 years ago.

Was a pretty serious hunter in my younger days.

Might make this one .....

I am sooo there!

My shotguns aren't really set up for skeet, so if I do that I'll have to rent one.  But the pistol range...now that has my attention!  I will probably spend most of my time there...also happy to give lessons to anyone who has never fired a handgun before.

Oh the tales that I could tell you!   <11

I got the car back in Dec and was just trying to put in break in miles over a 1,000 before taking it back for a compression check and a dyno pull.  Had a lot of stuff going on in the early part of this year, but I'll see you at the car control clinic?

We need to catch up!

This looks really nice and would look forward to it.  However, at this point it looks like I'm going to run Laguna Seca with SV that weekend.  If for some reason I don't go - please count me in.  Will know more as the dates close in.

Hey Scott H,

Do they have a rifle range?

If so, I have a Sharps rifle in 45-70 that's fun to shoot.

Wasn't sure if I was going to be back in town in time to make the Shoot Out.  But as luck would have it, I will be back Saturday night.  So, put me down for this one.  I'll be attending solo.

Haven't shot a firearm in nearly 25 years.  Not sure if I'll be able to hit the broad side of a barn.  So...participants beware!  <21

Title: Re: Viper Shoot Out

Ken,
If you have pistols bring them. Also .22 is okay. The pistol range is open all day and they charge $20 per day for as long as you want to shoot. You can shoot any hand gun there as well as .22 cal rifles and handguns ( I will have my Colt M4 to shoot which is a copy of an AR15 only .22 cal).
The rifle range they have is only open on fridays so no go on any long guns.
See you there!
Hirk

Once again, Thank you to all who came out for the Viper Shoot Out !
We all owe Scott and Laura special Thanks for putting this event together.  There are literally days worth of work that goes into every event.  Scott did everything from calling and making arrangements at the club for our reserved parking and shooting fields, to making up and printing the route maps.  Then stood out there in the sun the entire day, helping everyone out on the range.   >s

I have pictures up on my site www.kouchicentral.com (http://www.kouchicentral.com) and will update later this evening with the final scoring from the Shooting Tournament.

Just wanted to give a shout out to the Hirkos an awesome event!

Scott, thanks for showing me the ropes on how to aim and fire a gun - I definitely had a great time; my shoulder can't say the same though (there is a black and blue bruise the size of a tennis ball and the mere thought of lifting a glass of water makes me cringe).

Ben, you are lucky I couldn't stay because we both know who would have won the sudden death shootout!

Fantastic event, fantastic club!

Yup a huge thanks to the Hirkos for organizing such a great event.  That is the most people I have ever gone shooting with and it was such a blast!  The range has some very nice facilities.

I spent most of my time at the pistol range and for those of you who did not get a chance to check it out, it was very good.

Thank you for a great end to the weekend!

Look like you guys had fun - and everybody came home with all of their fingers and toes!

Will try to make the next one.

Will bring a soft shooting 20ga semiauto - auto for the girls.  Notice a bit of 12 ga "bite" in the photos.

What chokes and loads did you guys use?

Dan

PS  The Stig is a ringer .....
Title: Re: Viper Shoot Out
Post by: PCH VIPER on June 27, 2011, 07:18:41 PM
I'll tell ya, Lori did not mind the 12 gauge kick at all.  She actually liked the power.  The weight of the double barrel is what gave her the problem.  It was just a tad bit heavy and she had to compensate her stance to hold up the gun, which in turn made it harder for her to move the gun around quickly enough to get on target.

On another note,
I put up the challenge today to the San Diego members.  Randy is going to set up a venue for us down there.
We'll do a north vs south shoot out very shortly.  Should be a barrel of fun !!!

Hey Dan,

Missed you guys at the shootout. You probably would have been one of the top contenders.
My gun came with three chokes but I don't know enough about it so I just left it with the one
that was on. I think I was using 1 1/8 oz. target loads.

Ben
