PASADENA ART CENTER COLLEGE OF DESIGN CAR CLASSIC
October 26, 2014

Gary & Melissa Belvedere are planning this great event.  Car Classic serves as a reminder that behind every beautifully designed car is an innovative and talented designer—one most likely educated at Art Center College of Design. For more than 10 years, Art Center's Car Classic event has examined automotive culture and vehicle architecture through the lens of design. More than just another high-profile car show, this popular public event celebrates the very best in automotive design, showcasing the College's strong ties to industry and honoring many of our noteworthy alumni.

Join us this year for "Street to Screen" as Art Center Car Classic explores the impact transportation and entertainment design has on Hollywood and the entertainment industry—on camera, on the road and behind the scenes. Transportation designers, car collectors, filmmakers and auto and lifestyle enthusiasts will converge at Art Center's annual event to hear from and meet the people who design the vehicles that we love to see cruising Sunset Boulevard, coasting along scenic byways or roaring to life on the big screen.

It's a daylong celebration, providing attendees an up-close-and-personal look at a carefully curated selection of innovative vehicles, rare automobiles and stunning concept cars.

We will have the opportunity to go behind the scenes and tour the Campus.  There is perhaps no better way to become acquainted with Art Center than through the high caliber work of its students. This gallery offers a glance at projects created by students in each of Art Center's disciplines.

Track Events / VOA/COTA December 13, 2014
July 31, 2014, 04:35:34 PM
Just in from our VOA National Club.

"Just a heads up, we just announced that VOA is doing a track day at the Circuit of the Americas track on December 13th for only $595.  COTA is an amazing track, and this is probably the cheapest you'll ever be able to run an open track day on it, as next year, they are requiring two day minimums.

So might be worth getting a group together from NorCal and SoCal and heading over there.  If you're a serious track rat, you don't want to miss this opportunity!"

To Glenn and SoCal Viper Club:

Glenn - Would appreciate if you would forward this to our Club members for me. Thanks.

Viper Club:  Any of you who are deep sea fisherman may be interested in a  2 1/2 day fishing trip.  I will be going on Sept 25, out of H&M Landing in San Diego.  The boat would depart on Thursday night at 8 pm, and return on Sunday morning, early.  We will be catching primarily bluefin tuna, yellowfin tuna, dorado and yellowtail in US and Mexican waters.  This year seems to be a banner year for catching these fish because of the effects of El Nino on the water temperatures.  The cost of the trip is $585, which includes meals.  There are 17 spots left out of 30.  With my friends and family members, I have already booked 13 spots.  Anyone who is interested should book now, before the spots get taken by outside people.  The intent here is to have a fishing trip mainly made up with people we know.

Information:
Depart from:  H&M Landing
Boat:  Legend
Date: Sept 25 - 28
Phone:  619-222-1144
email:  [email protected]
webpage:  www.hmlanding.com

Chrysler announced today (May 6th) that the SRT brand will be consolidated under the Dodge brand headed by Dodge President and CEO, Tim Kuniskis.  Ralph Gilles, former President and CEO of SRT Brand will continue his responsibility as Senior Vice President of Product Design for all of Chrysler's vehicles as well as President and CEO of Motorsports.  "Given Chrysler's aggressive product plan expansion over the next few years, Ralph has his hands full with product design," said Maurice Liang, President of Viper Owners Association, "Being responsible for all of Chrysler design is a huge responsibility."

Under Ralph's leadership, the SRT vehicle lineup expanded and Viper was brought back for a fifth generation.  "If not for his passion and perseverance, Viper would likely not exist today," said Liang, author of the book SRT Viper – America's Supercar Returns.   "Ralph has been the spiritual father of the Viper for many years, and I have no doubt he will continue to do so in the future through his role as VP of Product Design. His enthusiasm for SRT is infectious and has helped develop a loyal customer fan base for SRT and Viper.  He's always welcome at VOA events."  VOA welcomes Tim Kuniskis to the Viper family and looks forward to working with him to build a strong, mutually-beneficial relationship with the manufacturer of our favorite vehicle.

Here is the official press release from Chrysler:

PCA Aviation, Aerospace and Automotive Rally
May 3, 2014

We have been invited by the Porsche Club of The San Gabriel Valley to attend their event.

"The 2014 edition of the Aviation, Aerospace and Automotive Rally is coming soon!  Registration is now OPEN for the May 3, 2014 event. Once again, the rally will be hosted by the San Gabriel Region of the Porsche Club of America, but the event is open to all marques and entrants.

The event is a scavenger hunt that features 70+ locations around the greater Los Angeles area with aviation, aerospace or automotive significance. Each stop earns points and the objective is to earn as many points as possible during the allotted four hours.  There is no defined route - you'll need to pick and choose your stops and your routes to maximize your points.

We will start at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena with a launch by 8:30am.  Recovery will be at the Spitfire Grill near the Santa Monica airport at 12:30pm.  You'll grab a bite of lunch while the scores are being tallied and then we'll award the prizes!  Prizes will recognize the entrants with the most points, but this is a FUN event so prizes will be awarded to others who had fun but may not have as many points.

No prior rally experience is required.  No particular knowledge of aviation, aerospace or automotive history is required.  This is a perfect event if you want to bring along your kids to help navigate.  Entrants will get a list of possible stops in advance of the event for planning purposes.

The cost is $20 per car and you'll buy lunch on your own.  Registration is open now and closes on April 23, but early registration bonus points are available if you sign up by April 9.  A flier is attached and more information is available at the rally blog - http://rallya3.wordpress.com.  If you didn't make the last rally event in November 2013, the blog has much more information and photos from the event.

We are always grateful for those sponsors that are pitching in to help with the event.  More to come, but PLEASE check out the sponsors listed below, stop by, and say thank you to them.  Sam at Collision Consultants is buying breakfast for everybody on rally morning!"

Track Events / 2014 Club Members Car Control Clinic

SoCal Club Members 2014 Car Control Clinic
October  4, 2014

: : : : : CLICK HERE TO BUY YOUR CCC TICKETS : : : : :The So Cal Viper Club will be returning back to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana California to utilize their huge parking lot to stage our Member's only Car Control Clinic sponsored by our Southern California Viper Club.   This has always been a very popular event for new members as well as long time members.   It is the ideal place to take your Viper out and push it to the limit to get a full understanding of what happens when you cross the threshold of tire traction and become a passenger trying to gain control of the Viper.

One again a  huge Thanks to Randy Tribolet for getting us set up again with the Team manager of Megan Racing.  Naoki Kobayashi.  They will be bringing out 3 of their instructors to help us learn the basics of Car Control through the lessons of Drifting.    " I know some folks are a little reluctant to burn up their street tires and for $50 they will let you take out their drift car and smoke em all you want. I spoke to Naoki today and he said that they would try to bring two rental cars this time. Also, their cars are set up for the drifting and a bit easier to control in a drift. It's a great way to get a feel for it. Last year, many of us rented the car first to get the feel and then took our vipers out afterward. I think that the best way to do it. They bring a truck load of tires and expect to go through some"  Randy.

Whether your goal is to learn how to full on drift your Viper or simply get the "feel" of  having the back end start to slide out and what to do to catch it, this is the ideal opportunity to come out and learn.

This year we will be focusing on Auto-x and this year it will likely have a few surprises in the course setup.

I've been waiting to here back from SRT.  Still no answer on getting a special set up for our club.  I don't want to let anyone get left out.  Last year we all had to purchase our tickets from J.R. Thompson who is selling them for SRT.  So here you go if you don't want to wait any longer.  Something might come up shortly but I really don't have an answer.

Member's Holiday Party ~
Saturday, December 20, 2014

This year we're celebrating at the Historic Mission Inn Hotel & Spa in Riverside.  http://www.missioninn.com

From its modest beginnings as a two-story adobe guest house in 1876, to its current position as an icon of breathtaking architecture, timeless beauty and old world charm, The Mission Inn is a place where history, grandeur and inspiration is found around every corner.  This national historic landmark evokes the spirit of the holiday season by transforming the entire city block into a winter wonderland with their Festival of Lights, a spectacular collection of nearly 4 million lights and 400 animated figures... one of the biggest winter attractions in Southern California!  This is truly a one-of-a-kind destination and an event you won't want to miss!

As is tradition, there will be some great Silent Auction items at the party!  All proceeds go directly back into our regional club to help support members only events such as this.  We plan to start posting pictures of the auction items on the website soon.  If you have any items you'd be willing to donate, please contact us as soon as possible.  New this year, we will be accepting credit cards (via PayPal) so come prepared to do some shopping!

Our entertainment for the evening will be the Leftover Cuties.  This group has a timeless jazz-tinged sound, combining sultry vocals, pop-perfect songwriting, and seasoned musicianship.  Their impeccable and atmospheric live performances draw ever-growing and increasingly passionate crowds in the clubs and cabarets of their hometown Los Angeles.  Their spellbinding first album "Places to Go" won raves from critics, while their latest album "The Spark & the Fire" delivers delectable, intelligent pop concoctions with honest and emotionally candid lyrics.  A string of impressive licensing placements has won them fans the world over. Among those spots: the theme for the Showtime series "The Big C" and an ad for Samsung that aired during the 2012 Olympics, generating more than 3 million YouTube views!

The cost is just $89.00 perperson and space is limited to 100 guests.  Don't wait and possibly miss out on the fun!  Make your reservations NOW!  :D

CLICK HERE TO BUY YOUR HOLIDAY PARTY TICKETS

Our room block completely sold out so the special group rate is no longer available.  The hotel only has a few 2-night package deals available at full price.

Harry Carey Ranch/"Tesoro Adobe"
San Francisquito Canyon Run

Thanks to Eddie and Michelle Reinsma for heading up this great run

The Tesoro Adobe was built and owned by noted western film actor, Harry Carey, in the 1920's and 1930's. During Carey's prolific film career, he is credited with at least 233 movies; the western elite including John Wayne, William S. Hart, and Gary Cooper visited Tesoro Adobe. In June 2005, the County accepted the donation of the Tesoro Adobe Historic Park
