ALL VIPER OWNERS ARE WELCOME - COME AND SUPPORT SRT!

Coronado Speed Festival at the Naval Air Station on Coronado Island Sponsored by SRT
Vintage Car Races with a little Naval Air Show

25 Vipers will get to do "Parade Laps" during the lunch break on Saturday - WOOHOO!

SRT IS ALSO PLANNING TO HAVE A 2008 VIPER THERE!

Staged on the runways and taxiways of NAS North Island with Navy aircraft and ships in the background, the Coronado Classic Speed Festival featured over 200 of the world's top racing machines from years gone by competing on a spectator-friendly 1.6 mile course. These vintage race cars are chosen to compete on the basis of their historical significance and certified authenticity. In addition to the racing action, you can tour Vendor Village, the Meguiar's Car Club Corral and the New Car Dealers Association Classic Car Collection.

We have corral passes for special parking inside the show area.  Corral passes will be given out at the meeting point at Ruby's Diner in Carlsbad. If you want to meet for breakfast, be there by 8:30AM.  Caravan to Coronado will be leaving at 9:30AM.

If you want to caravan from the Orange County area to Ruby's for Breakfast, we'll be leaving from Starbucks in Irvine at 7:30AM.

THERE IS A NEW ENTRANCE ONTO THE BASE FOR THIS EVENT - Click here for map.

SRT was there last year with some of their cars.  They set up a "lap area" kind of like an autocross.  This is a fun event.

Lawrenzo

I haven't been down for that in a couple of years- should be fun!

Lawrenzo

Which day are we set up for, Saturday or Sunday?  I am trying to decide if a Hotel makes sense this year, but can't make a reservation till I have a date.

ViperX

We don't have details from SRT or the VCA yet but are planning to go down on Saturday morning.  If this develops as I think it will, we'll likely stay Saturday night and set up a dinner with those that wish to stay.  Skip Thomas of Viper Days is planning to attend and we should have some product guys from SRT.

I'll get the details to the group as soon as they are available.

Hey Dan, Wasn't the big day last year Sunday?  I seem to recall that we lined the Vipers up in front of the Dodge display and the races where also on that day.

Hey Bruce,

Both days are good.  Last year it was practice race on Saturday, Races "for the gold" on Sunday.

Dave C has about 100 coral passes for us.

To whom does one contact if they want to get a Corral Pass for the event?

ViperX

DMC94,

Dave Cawthorne has the corral passes.  He's a regular on this board.  You can contact him directly.

We've RSVPed for the Camp Pendleton event - so do I look for Dave for a pass? ^3

ViperX

Yep,

Dave will be in the yellow GTS with "Daves Big Brakes" on the windshield.

He'll also be at lunch with the group before the Camp Pendleton event.

I'll introduce you.

I need corral passes too.

Dave:
In the event we have to buy tickets to go with the passes to allow our cars in the car show area, do we buy the regular admission tickets or the reserved?

PCH VIPER

Hey DMC,
I bought tickets last year......but didn't need them.  The corral pass that Dave has gets you into everything.
We get up front car show parking, admission to watch the races, and could walk around all the vendor tents.
It was pretty cool.

I'm sure there will be a bunch of us meeting in the OC. Then driving to Carlsbad to meet up with the others for breakfast.  From there we will head down to Coronado as a group.

ViperX

Hey Guys,

The corral passes got us in last year as Lance said, but they don't normally.  If we're lucky, they may get us in again this year but don't count on it.

The VCA is supposed to get us some entry tickets, I just don't know how many yet ..... but will let the group know when I know.

As of today, it is likely that we'll get to do 15 minutes of parade laps as a group on the race course during lunch on Saturday, so this is the day to make.  We may get to take a base official with us during these laps.

Keep in mind that "parade laps" means just that, not to exceed speed limits (typically 60 mph) or whatever the officials tell us.  We had an incident a few years ago when a Viper crashed during parade laps.  This would not be good for the club, so everyone that drives needs to be extra careful if driving on the track.  For those of you that want to track your cars, check the Track section of this website or the calendar.  There are usually several track events posted or available for us every month.

We may also have a 2008 Viper at the SRT exhibit.

As you may gather from this post, I don't have all the details yet and this event is coming fast.

This is a fun event even if we don't get to do any thing but watch the races and walk throught the pits.  The cars at this event are amazing to those of us that grew up with them.  I like the vintage Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, Corvettes, Cobras, Challengers and Cuda's the best.

Cathy and I will likely spend Saturday night in San Diego and go back to the show on Sunday.
