Title: DYNO DAY AT DC PERFORMANCE - July 11th
Post by: admin on April 04, 2009, 12:33:39 PM
DYNO DAY at DC PERFORMANCE - Saturday, July 11th <2

Dan Cragin of DC Performance has agreed to sponsor the club by holding a "Dyno Day" and Open House at his shop.  DC will provide donuts and coffee in the morning and lunch around noon.  The first 20 Viper owners who sign up for this event will get 3 dyno pulls with a print out of their results for only $50.00 each (payable to DC Performance at time of Dyno pull).  Dan will then donate $25.00 for each car dyno'd to the So Cal Viper Club.  If we can get at least 20 people to come to the event and do the dyno pulls, we can put $500.00 into the club's general fund.

This event is for all members, so even if you don't dyno your car, come watch, eat and hang-out with the rest of us – please R.S.V.P. though...

9AM - DYNOs WILL BEGIN AND WILL RUN THROUGH THE DAY UNTIL COMPLETE 2:30ish

I'll be there looking to better last years 858.  If there's room I plan to bring a friend that recently had his GT-500 converted to a Super Snake.  They claim 725 at the flywheel but do not provide the owners with post mod dyno results (hmmmm!).  We'll see.

I'd like to dyno my 2009 ACR.

This car has Belanger headers, Corsa mufflers, K&N filter and the, Mopar controller.

We at DC Performance are excited to see all of you at our annual Dyno Day. Everyone is invited so dyno testing is not a requirement, just hang out! Coffee and doughnuts will be served in the morning and a BBQ lunch at noon.
There will be quite a bit of information on car care and accessories and several of our popular vendors will be attending. There might be a Viper or two that could break the 1000hp mark!

There will be plenty to look at in the shop. We now have two dynamometers, a two and four wheel drive type, plus some new state of the art tuning and diagnostic equiptment. We also have some really neat projects in process to check out.

There is room for everyone, so please come!

Hey Rick,

Tell your friend to bring his Mustang.

Just let him know that it will be Viper's on the dyno first so he may want to show up a bit later.

Maybe we can get some "side bets" going?

I'll bet that my car makes more HP & TQ after Lance does his "balancing magic" to DC's dyno!

Does anyone know if Gary Gawlas' KR Super Snake was the 600 or 725?  If 600, then they are seriously underrating those.  The ZR1 relative to a stock Gen-4 seemed reasonable. All are fantastic cars, and the pinnacle of performance from Detroit that we will be seeing.

It was cooler and less humid this year compared to last year's Dyno Day, but I managed to drop 14-hp; however, relative numbers are everything, and everyones' numbers looked great - no surprise!  Need to find my next mod to prepare for the Dyno Day 2010.

It was great seeing everyone!

Hey Sean,

SHHHHH, don't tell Kobi, can't afford to lose any more bets.

I just emailed Todd at Arrow Race Engines.  They've been working on an upgraded intake manifold for our Gen IV cars.

I'll let you know if it's ready yet.

If not, maybe pull the heads, have them ported and polished and bump compression a bit while we're at it.

We cold also "play" with the adjustable cam timing and make a few more ponies.

Thought the group would find the following interesting.

Wasn't too happy with the crumby "545 rwhp" my 09 ACR made on DC's dyno.  After all, Kobi made 560+, Sean made 550+ and Mike B made 550+, i.e. all made a bit more power.

Pulled my injectors Monday morning and sent them to RC Engineering for performance evaluation, flow testing and cleaning.  Got them back today.  Had one "dripper" (an injector that wasn't spraying as it should) and one "fair" with the remainder rated "good".  I guess the Torco fuel additive and 100 octane fuel I've been running in the car due to the Mopar Race Controller installation hasn't been the best.  Engine has just over 5,000 miles on it.

All 10 injectors are now balanced and flowing excellently per RC Engineering's report.

I strongly recommend this service to all Viper owners.  Cost was less than $250.00 and the results are a better running engine.  This is an easy "do it yourself" job and RC's turn around is very quick.

Hey Dan, it would be very interesting to see what the HP gain would be.
I had RC do my injectors a month ago.  Motor definitely ran smoother.

For gen2 cars, you can call JonB and have a set of 10 injectors sent to you for about $125.00
Add $250 for them to get flow tested, balanced and new o-rings installed and you are set.

Question is how often should this be done?

"Question is how often should this be done?"

I'm guessing here, but a somewhat educated guess.  I've now had the injectors cleaned in 4 Vipers and every engine had at least one "dripper", one car had three (my GTS).

For cars like ours that "sit" most of the time or aren't driven very often during the week, I'd say much more often than a daily driven car, maybe once a year as miles don't often accrue quickly.  On a mileage basis, I'd say every 5,000 miles or so for peak performance again unless the car is driven regularly (five days or so per week).

Gasoline can "gum up" very quickly if it's left to sit in the injectors as it does when the car is not driven.  I'm sure most of us have times when we don't drive our Vipers for several weeks at a time.

Using a fuel injector gasoline additive can help keep your injectors working properly but sometimes tiny particles can get stuck in the injector spray nozzle opening and cause a dripping injector like I had.  Unfortunately, we can't normally feel any issues as these cars make so much power even when they aren't operating at 100%.

<For cars like ours that "sit" most of the time...>

Yup, that's it. I drive my Viper daily, and try to find every opportunity when nobody is around to "remind" my off-road PCM of my preferred tune/driving style.

I've been using Torco in the fuel of all of my cars for several years - I buy the 5 Gal. tub via the Internet, and refill 1-quart containers. Yes, the plugs evidence an additive (tan), but otherwise, they don't have build-up and burn well at high rpms.  I'm a fan of Torco, as I haven't lunched a 900+ HP 427 after about 35k hard miles of all season driving. Even with a conservative tune, the motor would have given out quickly, had it not liked the fuel.

Dan, I would very much like to see an after market upper intake manifold for the Gen-IV in the coming year. A ported lower with a nicely welded sheet metal upper should unleash the potential of our VVT 6500 rpm motors/heads. Maybe you could poll your fellow geographic presidents to see if any shops have been working on an upper?  A pool of resources in a GP might attract the production of a few, in preparation for DCP's 2010 Dyno Day.

Hey Sean,

I've been buying Torco in the 5 gallon can too and refilling the smaller containers, then adding it when I get gas.

It does leave a noticeable deposit on the plugs and exhaust pipe exit but other than that, no noticeable issues.

My Paxton engine now has 10,000 miles on it without issue.

I also run 100 octane from time to time (in the ACR), always at the track.

I'm working on the intake manifold with a couple of folks.  Arrow Race Engines has ported the factory intake and DC has a guy who will port the stock manifold but I think like you do, a proper custom made "race" piece would likely make more power.
