THE DRAGS AT IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY
THURSDAY EVENING, FEBRUARY 2nd
>2

If you've never had the thrill of Drag Racing your car at the strip, here is your chance!

Lyle Larson and DC Performance will be running a series of these Thursday Evening events throughout the year.  Lyle will be spending time with us before we stage the cars on the 1/8 mile track.  He will be teaching us the basics and etiquette of drag racing.
We will be covering the basics of the lights, staging, and launching the Viper for maximum traction.   This will be a progressive series that will give us the skills to be good 1/8 and 1/4 milers.

Helmets ARE the only minimum requirement.
(Some of us will have a helmet we can share with those of you who don't yet own one, but if you can borrow one before arriving at the drags you'll be assured of being able to run your car as often as you want rather than waiting to share one)

Come out and run or just come support the Club and watch!  It's only $20 to run your car, $10 to watch!

Date:  February 2, 2012
Time:  Please try to arrive about 3:30 or by 4PM so you can be in the group that gets the special walk-through and briefing by Lyle.  The track is making special provisions for the Viper group!  Drags start at 5PM.

Click this Vipers vs Vettes

THIS IS GOING TO BE AN AWESOME WEEKEND!!!

We will have a cocktail gathering at the Fantasy Springs Hotel on Friday evening.  The 12th Floor Lounge sits high atop the hotel with great views of the valley.   We will meet up with our Arizona guests and plan our strategies for setting the low time at the Auto-X.    Fantasy Springs Resort 84-245 Indio Springs Pkwy, Indio  CA   92203

ALL VIPERS will meet in the west hotel parking lot at 8:00 am on Saturday morning.  We will put #'s on the cars and take care of all the registration paperwork BEFORE heading to the Fairgrounds.  This will eliminate having to wait in the line with everyone else at the Fairgrounds to register.  We will leave the Hotel promptly at 8:30am
We have made special arrangements with the organizers to restrict the first couple of hours to Vipers and Corvettes  ONLY.  This event is open to the public....but we will get our own time block to run in so we won't have long wait times.  The course will go hot at 9:00 am sharp and we have 2 hours to get our runs in.  It will be a tight battle between the Vipers and Vettes. A special trophy will be presented to Team Viper or Team Corvette based on a cumulative time from the lowest 5 times of each team.

We will leave the Fairgrounds around 12:00 and head for lunch at Las Casuelas.  Cost will be $16.00 each for a 3 item buffet and soft drinks included.
After lunch, we will take a nice little cruise up Hwy 74 to the lookout and then drop back into the valley and stop off at Shields Date Garden for date shakes.

Later that evening, the Vipers and Corvettes will meet for a big group dinner close to the Fantasy Springs Hotel at Ciro's Italian Ristorante  81-957 Hwy 111  indio

Sunday morning we will check out of the hotel and head to the Palm Springs Tram at 10:00 am.  We will have lunch at the top of the hill and enjoy the magnificent views.

JUST HEARD FROM THE PALM SPRINGS CORVETTE CLUB:
They have an exciting Traveling Trophy that someone will win at this event...  sharpen up your cone skills, Viper-boys, 'cuz they claim it's not travelin' far!

HELMETS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE AUTOX
Please bring yours, or borrow one if possible.  The Corvette Club has a few loaners available.

RICHARD'S SPRING RUN
SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 2012
MEET AT 10 AM

Richard Palkovic will lead our Vipers on a merry chase through the hilly, twisty, turning roads on past Temecula where we will stop at Rainbow Oaks Restaurant for lunch about 11:30 or so.  This is a spirited, fun drive and the food at Rainbow Oaks is served in huge portions (and it's good!).

We will meet at 9:30AM at the Shell Station on Temescal Canyon Rd, Corona: MAP TO SHELL STN .  This is at the TEMESCAL off ramp about 7 mi. south of Hwy 91; address: 23255 Temescal Canyon Rd, Corona.
WE WILL LEAVE AT 10 AM for the run.  There are some nice twisties and hills to drive through, and Richard will try to keep us under a 95 mph for the switchback curves.
>1
It is recommended that you go to the AutoX the month before to get ready for this!  (just kidding).  This will be a great run for you to wake up those Vipers after hiding them away from the rain and winter weather.

The Corvette Club is coming into the Rainbow Oaks Restaurant about an hour after our planned arrival; so let's not lag along on that twisty ride, Viper guys!  We want to get there and get all the BEST PARKING SPOTS before they start arriving!!!

COME ON, SIGN UP!: It is not necessary to let us know, so if you get a last minute opportunity to join us, please do so!  But if we can get a reasonable head-count it will help the restaurant and allow us to get better service, so if you know you can go, say so.

VOI-12
September 27 - 30 2012
Charlotte, North Carolina

VOI-12 will be in Charlotte NC and while it is a long distance from us here in So Cal, it will be the perfect opportunity to travel out and see/drive (hopefully) the new Gen 5 Viper !
The VCA chose Charlotte for its great track facilities as well as scenic cruise opportunities. There will be a nice road course, karting and the added plus of drag racing.

The VOI-12 website is up and registration is OPEN !
www.voi12.com

If you are planning on going to VOI-12, do not wait to register !  Since there is no single hotel that could accommodate the entire Viper contingent, the VOI-12 Staff booked all the rooms at 5 different hotels.
The hotels are all VERY close in proximity to each other as seen in the map below.  The Host hotel is the Embassy Suites.
You MUST register for VOI-12 FIRST.  Part of the registration process is to choose your hotel.  Once you have completed VOI-12 registration, your name will be place on the room block for the hotel.  It will take 1 - 2 days for your name to appear on the Hotel's list and until it does, you will not be able to make your hotel reservation. Be sure to follow up with the Hotel to make your room reservations.  The Embassy Suites rate was $149.00/night.

To take your Viper or not, that is the question.
It is entirely up to the individual.  This is a great driving venue and the chance to drive your car on Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Z-Max 4 lane Drag Strip don't come along very often.  I suggest that those that want to ship their car get together and coordinate a single pick up of 6 cars.  This will yield the best rate.

For those that will leave their car home, there will be a variety of SRT vehicles available.  Cross your fingers that the Gen V Viper is also there for us to drive.

I did some quick checking on Airline flights and found some very good rates flying from LAX ($350.00), or SNA ($274.00) into Douglas International Airport (CLT)

SPRING RUN TO BORREGO SPRINGS
SATURDAY, MARCH 12

It's time to blow out some of those winter cobwebs and get the Vipers out on the road for a nice, spring run!  Lance has worked hard on convincing the DeANZA COUNTRY CLUB (a private golf club) to allow us to enjoy our lunch there, so we'll want to be on our good behavior when at the country club.  There is a DRESS CODE at the Country Club that we will be expected to observe:  No jeans, T-shirts, tank tops, or flip flops.  A collared polo shirt with shorts or casual slacks will be fine for the mepn.  Ladies, a nice blouse or top with some slacks, shorts, skirt or even a dress is acceptable, just no spaghetti straps.  If we enjoy this, we might want to come back next year, so while on the Country Club grounds we should drive sensibly with no extra loud rapping of the pipes.
That's not to say we can't have a little fun on the way!  <2

We will gather in Temecula and make the drive (about an hour and a half) to Borrego Springs, have lunch, socialize a bit and return.

THE PRICE FOR LUNCH will be $10.75 per person, inclusive of service chg & sales tax.
SALAD BAR:  Caesar Salad, Fresh Fruit, Coleslaw
BBQ:  Hamburgers, Veggie Burgers, Grilled Breast of Chicken, Bratwurst Sausages, Sliced Tomatoes, Red Onion, Lettuce & all the Condiments.  Coffee & Tea included.  A no-host bar is also available.

PLEASE MEET AT THE CHEVRON IN TEMECULA AT 9:00 SO YOU CAN GAS UP, ETC., AND BE ON THE ROAD TO BORREGO SPRINGS BY 9:30 AM
THE CHEVRON'S ADDRESS IS: 31669 Temecula Parkway, Temecula  PLEASE CLICK HERE for map.  Take Hwy 79 off of I-15 and go a short ways up 79 (Temecula Pkwy).  The Chevron is on the right side.

San Diego area group:  We'll be waiting at the Park N Ride (I-15 & Hwy 76) to group-up and will pull out of there at 9:00AM so please arrive accordingly if you want to join the group traveling from there to the Temecula Chevron meeting point.  And, come on, folks!  Join in this run...it's in "our" area!  You don't have to "dress up", just dress as you would to be at a country club golf course. <u

Duke's Brunch & Poker Run
SUNDAY, May 22
Please note, this is a SUNDAY run

For several years now, Duke's Huntington Beach has opened their doors early for the So Cal Viper Club to enjoy their Sunday Brunch with preferred front row parking and this year will be no different.

Like last year, after brunch there will be a Texas Hold'em Poker Run.  We'll leave Huntington Beach and cruise 27-miles along the coast picking up cards along the way, and end up in a cool park in Laguna Niguel.   There will be cool prizes for the top winners!

"Bring a bottle of water or two - we get thirsty while at the park."

Plan to arrive Duke's around 9:30AM - Doors open for brunch at 9:50AM

We'll park our own cars - but there will be a $6 valet charge. It would be nice if we gave an extra dollar or 2 for tip.

Breakfast will be in the Huntington Beach Room overlooking the ocean and pier.
We'll enter as a group through the Barefoot Bar Entrance (north side).
Please note, that we'll have tables of 6-10 persons and Duke's will bill us by table.

Poker Run - Depart Duke's at 11AM

1st Stop Fashion Island – Pick up your first poker card
2nd Stop Crystal Cove – Pick up your second poker card
3rd Stop Laguna Niguel – The final cards will be played

"Will you be the WINNER?"  =28

WESTERN ZONE RENDEZVOUS
& CAR CONTROL CLINIC

SATURDAY, MAY 7, 2011
Deadline to Register
April 28th !

Do you ever feel like taking your Viper out into an empty parking lot and doing some donuts just for fun?

Wouldn't you love to go out and burn some rubber and not get a ticket?

Have you ever wanted to take some turns on the street fast enough to slide the car and exceed its limits, without the chance of hitting something or someone?

Would you like to explore your Viper's limits in a safe, legal environment and learn to handle your beast better?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then the WZR combined with a Car Control Clinic is something you just won't want to miss.

There will be three driving stations set up in a large parking lot at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA:

1. An autocross.  The winner will win a trip to Detroit to compete in an autocross against the SRT engineers!  To be eligible for this contest, tires must not have a manufacturer's treadwear rating less than 80.  For example, Pilot Sport Cups = 80 twr, Toyo R888's = 100 twr, PS2s = 220 twr.

2. We'll have a drag racers "tree" so you can learn how a tree works, learn to launch your Viper and test your reaction. Pro Drag Racer Lyle Larson of DC Performance will be teaching you.  You will launch into a short straight with a left then right turn.  This course is designed to induce unbalance in the car to give you a chance to "feel" what it is like when the car is on the edge.

3. Finally, there will be a figure 8 with in-car driving instruction.  Pro Road Racing Coach and Viper Days Chief Driving Instructor Bob Blizzard and his team will be coaching you.  This course is designed to let you feel the car "on the edge" and learn to make corrections.

For insurance reasons, this event is limited to club members and their immediate family.  If you'd like to share your driving experience with your passenger you may take turns, but your passenger must be licensed and at least 16-years old. Helmets are recommended, but not required.

Dinner and awards will be at a local Viper Member's facility where they truly "Build Cool Stuff". They have some neat projects underway that we'll be able to see (a group of astronauts toured the facility just a few weeks back). Feel free to check out their website www.Penwal.com.
