Car Control Clinic
Auto Club Speedway, Fontana CA
September 7th, 2013
(http://www.kouchicentral.com/images/11-10%20WZR/DSC_0558.JPG)
The So Cal Viper Club will be returning back to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana California to utilize their huge parking lot to stage our Member's only Car Control Clinic. This has always been a very popular event for new members as well as long time members. It is the ideal place to take your Viper out and push it to the limit to get a full understanding of what happens when you cross the threshold of tire traction and become a passenger trying to gain control of the Viper.
A huge Thanks to Randy Tribolet for getting us set up with the Team manager of Megan Racing. Naoki Kobayashi (google his name) has been part of the US Drift Industry since it was introduced back in 2000 and his team competes on the Formula Drift circuit. They will be bringing out 3 of their instructors to help us learn the basics of Car Control through the lessons of Drifting.
Whether your goal is to learn how to full on drift your Viper or simply get the "feel" of having the back end start to slide out and what to do to catch it, this is the ideal opportunity to come out and learn.
We will have 3 Stations set up with an instructor at each one to help drivers learn the basics.
The fourth station will be our Auto-x and this year it will likely have a few surprises in the course setup. ;)

Hey! A few of us were talking at cars n coffee last weekend and we were all hoping that we might consider adding a drifting event to the CCC. Is there anyway that could happen? Sure hope so, that would be fun!

I'll greatly miss you both.
If you are looking for a hot, dry, conservative place to live you could just move to Santa Clarita instead.

Eddie and Dylan are in if Dylan can bring his Mazda RX7.
Since this is a VCA sanctioned event, we must keep the spaces available for the Vipers first.
We are limiting this event to 50 cars.
If we do not fill all 50 spots with our Member's Vipers, "other" vehicles are most certainly welcome.
Thanks to Randy Tribolet's efforts, we have 3 Drift Instructors from the Megan Racing / DriftDay Race team coming to instruct at our 2013 CCC !!!
In addition to this, there is a possibility (based on response) that we will set up a 5th station where you can drive a true Drift Car. The cost is $50.00 paid directly to Drift Day. This will buy you one "doughnut session" in their professionally setup drift car with instruction from Naoki Kobayashi himself.
If you would like to drive a real drift car, please respond on this thread so that we can gauge interest and decide if it would be worthwhile for Naoki to bring out his Drift Car.
I would be interested in driving a drift car so put me down.
Thanks,
Ben
Lance please put me down for the real drift car.
Thank you
Count me in. This is always a Viper Club highlight
Demoe and Daniel are in and PAID (Paypal).
Count me in for the drift car experience I would to drive a real drift car.
Please add Rolf to the list. Going sideways in my Viper would be a nice skill to have.
Look forward to this clinic.
I'm in for the event, but I'll pass on the professional drift car.
Brent 8)
Hey Rolf - I thought that Vipers go sideways very easily .... its just holding them there in one spot that's the problem.
Dylan and Eddie are in on the drift car.
Albert Fattal + Paola please
looking forward to it
For those that want to drive the Megan Racing Drift car, please make sure you let me know BEFORE September 2nd !!
They need to know how many people will be driving their car and order enough tires for those that are driving their car.
I guess they are expecting us to SMOKE some tires !! ;D
Ok Lance I am in on a trailer with at least 3 set of rears to smoke you bastard, twisting my arm like that. I loved the comment that everyone else is trailering with mutipules of tires. Jeezs talk about peer pressre. Plus I miss you guys. Lets turn that parking lot into a rubber lined plate!!!
;D LOL....no arm twisting. I just didn't want you to take the wheels off my car when you hit the chords on your tires.
Please add Mikey to the drift car list.
Thanks
Time to dust off the car and come out and play. Oh, sign me up for the drift car also. Love the smell of rubber...
For the guys heading up from the San Diego Area, contact Paul G. He will set up a meet point and you guys can drive up together.
Pat Taylor would like to do the drive-THEIR-car part of the Sept. 7 event!
Hey Lance,
I think my sister(Akemi) is going with Mike Fujita and will be taking Yoko's spot for this event. Akemi and I are planning on renting the drift car!
-Justin
Hey Justin,
Great....I'll make the changes. Your sister was doing donuts in your car at the Duke's Run, so I'm sure she will do great ;D
I'll add you both to the drift car.
Are helmets required ?

Are helmets required ?
They are strongly
recommended but we are not going to require it for our portion of the event.
I need to double check with the Naoki for the Drift Car, but fully expect that helmets will be REQUIRED when driving his car.
Lance,
Please add me to the drift car list. I need some to get some experience in NOT going sideways.

What to expect:
This is a Car Control Clinic. The emphasis of this event is to give the members a safe environment to push the Viper beyond it's natural balanced condition and gain the reaction skills to correct the balance before losing complete control of the car.
This will be done through a series of exercises that our instructors from Megan Racing will be teaching us.
The guys from Megan Racing are Formula Drift experts and will be helping our members learn the art of drifting through car control.
You WILL burn up some tread on your tires !! Be sure that your tires have adequate tread before arriving or bring extra sets of wheels/tires.
Car Preparation:
Verify that all your fluids are topped off. Make sure you top off your fuel tank before driving into the track.
Make sure your brakes are in good condition.
Check your tires for tread depth ! It is also highly recommended to check your tire wear throughout the event !!
We are recommending that you set your tire pressures at 33 - 35 PSI
Empty out the contents of your car. You do not want any loose items rolling around in your car for this event. Bring a bag to put items in that you don't leave at home. There will be a place for you to put your belongings, but it will be on the ground.
What to bring:
Helmets are recommended. If you are signed up for the Drift Car doughnut sessions, helmets will be required.
Chair
Towel a wet towel around your neck will help keep you cool.
Water
Sunscreen
EZ up for shade. We are expecting it to be VERY warm on Saturday.
See you all on Saturday !!
