Title: Drive Willow Springs with West Coast Racing October 6 & 7
Post by: ViperX on July 23, 2012, 03:05:58 PM
Hey Guys,

Our first group track event of the fall is coming up in only 10 weeks.

Drive the big track at Willow Springs with West Coast Racing October 6 & 7.

As usual, WCR has run groups for everyone, novice, intermediate, advanced and race.

Instruction is available, the track fees are low at only $245 for the weekend which includes 5 sessions per day, and there are always lots of other types of cars to pass.

Please let us know who is attending and if there is interest in a Group Dinner on Saturday night and we'll set it up.

WCR's contact info is on their website at:  www.westcoastracinginc.com or call 626 285-2024 or 626 285-2515.  You can also download event forms from their website.

FYI, Willow Springs has just informed us that K & K Insurance now requires a 5 point safety harness (or 6 point) and a roll bar on all convertible cars.

See you at the track,

Dan  <2

Driver's list:

Dan
Gary
Chris
Ben
Juan
Jon
Glenn
Scott H
Jim S
Mike B
Lance

Dan, I should be able to make both October events.

I am sure I will email you plenty of questions between now and October :)

I appreciate all the advice you have given to me. And if there are any others that want to get track experience like me, these events should be very good learning experiences.

Count me in 100% for this event and 50% for ButtonWillow....  Yes we should have a dinner Saturday, the Viper guys Rock!..... I am going to be sporting my new set of Brembo GT-R brakes custom built for the Viper ACR.... I am also going to try and hit my best time at the track and aim for a 1:24 or 1:25 that would be insane!  My best time to date is a 1:26.8

Hey Jonathan,

You will love the tracks, Buttonwillow can be a bit challenging, while Willow is FAST!  Dan is a great instructor and will provide you with a ton of knowledge.  Have fun.

Hey Gary,

Those are some lightning fast times, good luck on your quest to get below 1:25   Be sure to tape it for those of us who are not fast and can't make it to the track.

I will definitely have in car video with overlay of Speed, Throttle and Braking... I also got a new GoPro with the remote feature and will set up a really cool out side of the car shot on the drivers side so you can see my hands, track and racing line... Check out my YouTube Chanel and the 2nd or 3rd video down is my buddy Jesse chasing me, wow talk about fast hands.  That video is insane and I am going to try and set the same camera angle up, I didn't have to work nearly that hard.

Mike,

Glad to hear you can make this one.  Looking forward to driving with you.  Remember to sign up in the RED group.  Just added the Mopar Race Controller and a Corsa Track Exhaust to my ACR (so I can hear it with the ear plugs in!)  Looking forward to driving it on the track again.

No headers yet.....

Hey Demoe,

Most of us experienced track guys have roll bars and passenger seats WITH harnesses, however there is usually a NO PASSENGER rule at Willow Springs while we are running at speed.

They do generally have "drive arounds" during lunch which allow us to drive our cars around the track at 60 mph or less.  These are surprisingly fun to do and passengers without helmets are allowed.

See you at the track,

Dan  <2

My money is on you Ben, no doubt you can still drive your Viper on the track.

You may spin your tires the first few times you accelerate out of a corner though .....  <2

Yeah, I can't spin the rear tires on the Lotus no matter how hard I try and the Viper is completely opposite of that!

Please let me know if you're on for dinner.

So far for dinner I have:

Dan and Cathy
Jim S
Juan
Jon

PS  Race seat installed, headers installed, mopar race controller, ported intake = should be fun.  Temps look OK for willow.  Might be a bit warm around 2-3PM, but AM and later PM temps look good.

Is there a spectator fee?  I might drop by to watch and film a little for a possible VOI 13 video.

Unfortunaty my car, being a convertible, is set up more for PCH rather than a track.

That's great, I'll try to make it. If I drive my Lexus, will I need anything besides a helmet if I want to go on the track?

Jay,
You should be fine with a helmet, long sleeve shirt, pants and closed shoes. You can tech your car there for $15 I think.

Guys, sorry but I'll be bringing the Lotus tomorrow. Needed new front tires for the Viper but didn't have time to get them. But, I will be getting a new track car, a race prepped gen 2 GTS Viper, to replace the Lotus so this might be the last track event with the Lotus.

See you tomorrow.

Hey Guys,

Great weekend at the track with some fast lap times run by all.

Jay got a chance to ride along with Rod Bean, a pro driver and instructor.  He seemed to enjoy his "ride along", but I'll let him comment on it.

Did have a few "no shows"; you guys missed a very open track and great weather.

See you at the Auto Club Speedway, Fontana with Speed Ventures Nov 17 & 18.

Nice Video Mike.

That guy in the Mustang was a real PITA.  He should have let you pass when Chris and I passed him.

He lost his power steering later in the day and went home.

That ride along with Rod made the Nascar ride at Charlotte seem like Disneyland-- It was amazing!  It was almost comical to see his lowly old bone stock C5 Z06 blow past a 458 Italia... and everything else in that group.  We never did get a clean lap, but it was a great experience.

Thanks again Dan for setting that up.

I'll post some pictures and maybe some video from the day tomorrow.

Cool video Mike!
Looking good out there. No video of me oil spraying your windshield?
Turns out it was a leak in the oil pressure sensor fitting, nothing major.
Sorry about the oil spray.
It was really fun running with you guys.

Ben,

The only video I have of you is in the hot pits, I think that session you took off fast, probably passed a couple of cars and I never caught you.

I wish I had the oil spray video!  those were some fun laps and in that or another session I had a good run with a porsche, the lambo and that orange Mustang.  After lunch I went to download the "card" and found out I had left it in the computer.  Wish you could have seen how much spray I took on in the lap or two.  I let a couple of cars by including the orange mustang and I saw later he had a ton of your oil spray too.

Glad it was just your oil fitting!  Unfortunately for Peter he punch a hole in his oil cooler.  You should see my car, it really glistens in the sun, maybe wash it next week.

Hope to see you soon!

Mike

Thanks Lance, we missed you!  I had a couple of fun laps with a turbo porsche and Peter's friend in the black vette chasing me, wish I had the rear camera like you have!

Hope to see you Saturday
