Hey Sidewinders,
As you may or may not know, Viper Days will be running Chuckwalla Raceway which is East of Indio, CA on March 25, 26 & 27, 2011. I thought it might be a good idea for us to familiarize ourselves with this local track before Viper Days comes to town.
I spoke with Mickey Grana (760-227-3100), operator of of Chuckwalla, a few days ago about this upcoming open track day which is Tuesday December 14, and will be the last open track day this year.
Price is $150 per day plus $10 per person access fee. Track goes hot at 9:00 AM, cold at 4:00 PM. Attendance will likely be very light, like 10 to 20 cars and if so, the track will be open all day long with point by passing - so lots of track time will be available.
Cathy and I are planning to go, weather permitting. Bob Blizzard and Ross Murray may join us as well.
For more info, go to: www.chuckwallavalleyraceway.com

Dan
Dan,
Sounds good you bring the tools! That way I can fit my camera bag. Do you think I will be able to gain access to the track areas like I did at Spring Mountain?

Scott
Scott,
I'll gladly bring the tools if you'll bring your camera bag.
On access, it's pretty open out there and I think with a little begging, we might be able to get access. As you know, Viper Days is planning to drive there in March, so having some photos would be good for the track and good for us.
Dan
Dan,
I'm going to have to pass on this event. Though I really wanted to do one more track day this year. I just have to much going on next week and can't take the time off. If it was the weekend it would be doable. I hope you guys have a great time. Lance can snap photos!
Hirk

Chris,
I emailed the info and sign up forms to Tim last week. They are included above as "down-loadable" PDF forms, at the bottom of the first post. Just print them, complete them and fax them to the track.
You can just "show up" if you'd like, just be there by 8:00 AM.
Bring your buddy too.
See you at the track,
Dan

Hope to see you there.

What a great day out with the Viper Sidewinders !
3 hour drive out to Chuckwalla Valley Raceway. Really fun track to drive. Very smooth flowing turns with some neat elevation changes.
Here is some video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKOYOhNPVvw
Lance,
Looks like a good time - nice driving!
Thanks for sharing.

Nice lines Lance. All the Videos I have seen of the Chuckwalla track have been clockwise.
Hey Dan. Can you find out from NARRA which way we are going to run?
Thanks, Glenn
My 2:20 lap times were ALMOST as fast as the lap times the lunch truck was laying down >w
Plus he had a better line and the best pulled pork sandwich I have ever had !!
Running it CCW was supposed to be better from a visual standpoint. Definitely had some turns that were difficult in the CCW that probably wouldn't pose a problem in the CW.
Hey Lance - great videos. The track looks great. Can't wait for Viper Days.
Guys,
I asked Mickey, one of the principals at CW, which way was best for sports cars and he said that CCW was best, slightly faster with longer braking zones and that it was easier to pass running CCW too.
So, I will recommend to NARRA that we run CCW.
Chuckwalla will have more open track days before NARRA and I'll post them for you guys or you can go to the CW website and check it out. We should try to do this again as a group before Viper Days. Everyone seemed to enjoy the track.
I haven't checked my data logger yet but got down to a 2:04 lap as a best, I think. Not impressive by any means, but I didn't do any "off roading"..... a few of us did. FYI, Ross Murray ran a 2:00 in his race prepared Mustang and Bullet Bob Blizzard ran a 1:54 in his race truck. I thought we did pretty well as a group, safe and relatively fast, considering it was our first time to this track.
It is definitely a different type of track where you spend most of your time turning - bring fresh tires! Top speed at the end of the back straight was about 120 mph for me, then full ABS. Most Viper owners could drive the entire track in third gear with a Gen IV and OE 3.07 gears.
I took videos of all five sessions and will look through them and post part the best one.
Dan
Hey Dan were u able to go through the video yet? >q
Chris,
It was nice seeing you again, Tim and Shelli too.
Yes, viewed all of the videos and some came out pretty good.
Will post a clip when I get some time.
Raining like crazy here in So Cal, so buried with work right now - which is good - no time for anything fun.
See you soon,
Dan
cool!! glad your busy!!! maybe it could flood some flooring and i could get in on some of that!! <11
