This may be one of the most challenging roads our Club has ever driven ^2
We will have lunch at the historic Buckhorn Lodge which was opened in 1910.

After visiting the Buckhorn Lodge and meeting with Mrs. Unruh, I knew this would be a great destination for a day run. Mrs. Unruh has promised us her prime parking lot and a great lunch menu.
Cost will be $20.00 / person and you will have a choice of the following:
Giant Buckhorn Hot Dogs- They are the Best!!!
Cheese Burgers-Turkey and veggie served with the works !!!!

Im in +1
I am definately in for this.
FYI, I am thinking about hiking up to the summit after lunch if anyone is interested. I still need to research the trails better, but it looks like a 3 hour hike up, and roughly 1.5 down assuming the ski lifts are open to ride for a "shortcut".
Bring passengers that don't get car sick ! >w
This is one twisty road.
>8
Put me down too... perhaps "offspring" might go as well... ^8

I'm not sure if I will make the hike, but Mt Baldy is a very popular place for this.
Mt Baldy is the highest peak in L.A. at 10,688 feet. If the weather stays as nice as it has been, the views will be spectacular.

Hey Dan,
Jon is a young lad, only us old folks need oxygen for that trek! O>
I am in +1 hope the view is AWESOME.

This is also the French National Holiday, Bastille Day. Bastille Day is the name given in English-speaking countries to the French National Day, which is celebrated on the 14th of July each year. In France, it is formally called La Fête Nationale (The National Celebration) and commonly le quatorze juillet (the fourteenth of July). It commemorates the 1790 Fête de la Fédération, held on the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789; the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille fortress-prison was seen as a symbol of the uprising of the modern nation, and of the reconciliation of all the French inside the constitutional monarchy which preceded the First Republic, during the French Revolution. Festivities and official ceremonies are held all over France. The oldest and largest regular military parade in Europe is held on the morning of 14 July, on the Champs-Élysées avenue in Paris in front of the President of the Republic, French officials and foreign guests
So maybe Mrs. Unruh or PCHVIPER can arrange to have some Grey Poupon mustard for the hotdogs and hamburgers? The road to Mt Baldy is spectacular, very tight section of corners, but no one will be driving fast so it should be an excellent run. Notice the steepness of the mountains when you get to the top. I had a 3 foot fresh powder day on Mt Baldy, Feb 28th 1997 after the major El nino rains passed through LA Basin. Still can remember looking from the top of the moutain into the LA basi in 3 feet of snow. I can't make this one, will actually be in Paris on this day. Have a great time.
Bon Voyage...Doc
You should rename the cruise the "Bastille Day Run"......... >g
>g Count Dave & Lisa in!!
I'm in...........plus one.
Mayo can't make is as she's working that day.
Looks like we're gonna have to snake our way around this road. Can't wait. >g
Dan,
I know, I know.... It's a cruise not a race. =16
Jim and Judy will be there.
O> Sounds Good to Me !

Hey Demoe,
If I can't make this one, which it looks like right now, can I count on you to remind everybody that "it's a cruise"?
There are some pretty steep "run off" areas adjacent to some of the "twisties" on this ride. Don't want to hear about anybody going "off roading" down one of these hill sides.
Dan <2
Alan & Amara Camblin would like to join in,sounds like a nice ride.

You bet Dan.
That road will ruin your day at a blink of an eye.
I'm in & maybe +1.
Please add Nino to the run. <H It sounds like it will be very exciting.
I'll be at Krispy Kreme at the Block of Orange off the 22 fwy and City Drive at 8:30 getting my sugar fix >v
I'll be leaving there at 9:00 to head up to the main meet point in Glendora:
540 West Alosta Ave, Glendora CA
Make sure you fill up with gas there as there are no gas stations along this winding road up to Mt Baldy.
I am planning to go. I will be at Krispy Creme at 8:45. I have to be in Irvine by no later than 1pm so I might have to u-turn early and start heading back.
My schedule just freed up for Saturday. So count me in for the cruise and lunch. I'll be flying solo.
Since I am temporarily without a Viper, I'll have to figure out an alternative mode of transportation??? <11
Looking forward to the cruise and seeing everyone.
- Cuz Mike
Glad you can make it Cousin Mike. I can let you drive the Viper to the rendezvous point and I'll drive your car, then we can swap once it is time to go up the hill >v >m
Bring something nimble <1
O> Hey Kids, I'm gunna meet you guys at the gas station on Alosta Ave,
GMR is a Fantastic Road, Lots of Motorcycles & Bicycles, We are going early enough
should be Big Fun ! joel. <u
This looks like too much fun to pass up. Even though there is a chance that the hour or so on a winding road might make me puke, I'll take a chance.
Jennifer can't make it, so it will just be me.
~Jay
Jay,
You'll be fine as long as you're driving.
Some passengers don't enjoy long rides on winding roads though.
Dan <2
Jim Shaffer will be there
Hi Lance, I know it is late but can you include Mike & Cheryl Sinkinson?
Sat. is freed up! I am in!
For those wanting to drive too fast, please be in front of me so I can upload the video to YouTube when you pull one of these....

ABSOLUTELY !!!!!

Please take Nino off the list. A change of plans that has nothing to do with the weather. Have fun and be sure to keep the rubber side down. <u
Add another one. I'll be joining the crew tomorrow.

I know I had a GREAT time driving Glendale Mountain Ridge Rd today and hope everyone else did too !
It has been quite a while since I last drove with Joel and it is always fun chasing him around the curves.
Even happier that he is back healthy again >r
Near as I know, no passengers got sick >v
We could not have asked for better weather and traffic was very light which made for some great driving.
I have pictures up on my site www.kouchicentral.com (http://www.kouchicentral.com)

I probably would have needed 2 bottles of oxygen too !!
So different seeing it without snow. This is a great place to ski right after a big snow fall.
Thanks for sharing Jonathan!

Thanks Dan. 10k isn't too much of a problem for me, although, I did get a very small cough while up at the summit which is the early stages of your body saying it wants more oxygen.
There's a 14,000 summit in Yosemite I want to try before the year is out. That will be fun >g
You also need to climb Mt Whitney 14,505 feet.
I did it when I was a young guy like you. Now I'm one of the old folk O>

Hey Jonathan,
When I was a bit younger, I spent quite a bit of time at higher elevations while hunting Elk, Deer, Bear, etc.
When I was even younger, I backpacked the High Sierra. I learned early to "drive" as high as I could. Spend at least one day and night at higher elevation, then take it easy going up really high, like 14K feet. I've seen altitude sickness first hand. It can come on pretty fast and be very hard on some folks. Hiking this high is best with a group of friends in case anything unexpected happens.
I was lucky, perhaps because I was always and athlete and always worked out (still do) to never have any serious issues with high altitude.
Good luck,
Dan <2
PS Any chance you'll join us at the track this fall?
Great drive up to Mt. Baldy. It's my "backyard ride" when I want to take the BMW GS out for a spin.
First time with the Viper.
I want to thank all for posing for the picture for my mom's B-Day card. She will get a kick out of this.
