DYNO DAY at DC PERFORMANCE - Saturday, July 10th =27
Dan Cragin of DC Performance has again agreed to sponsor the club by holding a "Dyno Day" and Open House at his shop. DC will provide donuts and coffee in the morning and lunch around noon. There will be a limit of 20 Viper owners who can sign up for this event and each will get 3 dyno pulls with a printout of their results for only $50.00 each (payable to DC Performance at time of Dyno pull). Dan will then donate $25.00 for each car dyno'd to the So Cal Viper Club. If we can get 20 people to come to the event and do the dyno pulls, we can put $500.00 into the club's general fund.
This event is for all members, so even if you don't dyno your car, come watch, eat and hang-out with the rest of us – PLEASE R.S.V.P.! by clicking "Reply" and adding a post that you'll be there.
9AM - DYNOs WILL BEGIN AND WILL RUN THROUGH THE DAY UNTIL COMPLETE 2:30ish

Will Dan be able to dyno tune the car and dump a new program into my SCT during this event?

Add my '06 coupe to the list.
Hey Matt,
Dan and company are very busy during this event, so burning a new tune into your computer may not be possible during that day. Dan aims to please, so I'd suggest you contact him and discuss it in advance. He can probably accommodate your request.
As you probably know, there are two options.
1 - Dan can "burn" another computer for you and it's an easy swap at the shop. You take the new one with the tune, he gets your existing computer.
2 - You can buy another computer with a tune already in it and keep your old computer. I don't know Nevada smog laws but having a spare computer here in CA can be important.
If Dan cannot have one of his guys do this for you, several of us can help you with the install with a few basic hand tools. It's really "plug and play".
See you there,
Dan
Dan,
I'm in too. Looking forward to seeing yours with the Arrow intake and mine with the DC set up.
Hopefullly Super Villian will be able to participate., I think I can get a cpuple of HP past the 580.7 he made last year
I see Lance in "modified"?
Do his interior upgrades make more HP??
Mike
OK, Mike, the bet is on.
I'll bet you...,ur ,,, a,,,, big bet ,,, 1 diet Coke that I make more rwhp than you do!
I lost this bet to Kobi last year .... Argh ....

It must be the extra hamsters I added inside the roll bar !....or maybe my faux NOS bottle <11
I don't stand a chance against you modified guys. Better move me down to the Green Group.
Put me down for the dyno in the stock class, '08 ACR.
Thanks, Ben
Come on Lance, How many can say they have a one off Catch Can. Hmmm? And don't forget the
State of the Art G.P.S directly to U-Tube filming electronics? And lastly the Fangs/Sneaky Pete Logos on your wing?
Heck I'm in modified for having numbers on the Verts doors. <x

If you need another car to help fill the slots I'd like to dyno my 69 Camaro too. Or is it a Viper only event?

Hi. Please add my '08.

I have removed the extra hamsters from my ACR and can now compete in the Stock class.
That being the case, I'm challenging my ACR against Ben's ACR for a can of Diet Coke.

Dan C.--thanks for everything!
As Dan E. (ViperX) suspected, my new 20" HRE wheels are in fact shorter than my OEM 19" wheels and this might have cost me a few ponies! (0.55 of an inch). This probably explains why my 4th gear redline mph was 140 or 150mph while other stock Gen IVs were hitting 160mph. For the sidewinder events I will put the stock shoes back on!
There were lots a great Vipers today!

Dan and DC PERFORMANCE, thank you for a fun day with great friends, Dan Viper X and Lance thank you it it was good to get together and see some great HP coming from the Vipers. <2 <2
ACR Eddie,
You need to come out and play with us at the track !
Driving the canyons are fun, but just you wait and see what it can do out on a track =27
See ya soon!
Nice dyno day guys, maybe the best one yet!
Nice to see some new faces along with the older ones!
Great pics as usual Lance.
My ACR came to within 3 ponies of Mike Buckinghams in the peak HP race and made 571.35 rwhp. Mike has been beating up on me since our first dyno day together. The good news is that I managed to beat him in the rwtq by about 3! Ok, so it was pretty close.....
Feeling all happy about my 09 ACR's performance on the dyno, I made the mistake of comparing it to dyno sheets of other cars. It handily outperformed my Gen III coupe, though it was pretty close with the GTS for rwtq and the GTS actually made more rwtq down low than the 09 ACR though the ACR eventually passed it up top.
Then I made the mistake of comparing the ACR's dyno sheet to the 04 "Beasts". The ACR made a very strong 547.86 rwtq that day at 5200 rpm. The Beast makes, are you ready for this, about 600 rwtq at only 2250 rpm, goes on to reach 800 rwtq at 4500 rpm and peaks at over 860 rwtq at 5200 rpm thanks to DC's tuning on pump gas.
No wonder I keep breaking things, like transmissions!
I guess there's always somebody faster or making more hp / tq as I'm sure the twin turbo guys make even more hp / tq than my Paxton car.
Great day guys. Hope to see you at the picnic for the "Tug o' War".
Dan

Holy *&^% I had no idea that it was that high. With that kind of power, you are always going to find the weak link.
You need to put an ACR wing and splitter on the Beast to make sure you don't take off !!!
Fun day for sure. Pretty happy with my mild mannered vert @ 530hp/510tq. Had a blast just keeping up with Dan and Mike on the drive to DC from Seal Beach =15 "We were just cruisin"
As always thanks to Lance for all the great pics
Hey OC Guys,
Sorry about that drive from Seal Beach to DC. Try not to drive like that but I'd told Dan I'd be there at 9:00 AM with the screen and projector and there was much more slow traffic than I expected.
We made it by 9:00 - just barely.
Just need to leave earlier next time.
Dan
Hey Ben,
How much HP did the Camaro put down?
Hey Art,
It only had 456 at the wheels >o. Dan C. said the loose converter, auto trans and huge rear end and tires can soak up 30% or more of the power. I guess I should have run it with the nitrous! Seat of the pants feel is very good though, it breaks those tires loose at will and pulls strong. The car is lighter than my Viper so I think the true test would be to time it at the drags.
Ben -
It looked like the Camaro was running pretty rich (I assume because of your intent to use nitrous with it). Leaning it out a bit would have picked you up a decent amount of power, but don't run it leaner with the nitrous.
Hey Matt,
Yes, Dan said it was running rich but I guess it's safer that way, especially with the nitrous, like you said.
I was surprised at how much driveline loss I got because the engine builder showed me dyno numbers of 650 hp for the motor.
Quote from: Banzai Ben on July 16, 2010, 03:21:22 PM

Yes, with a carb setup you need to run it rich for when you use the nitrous. Did the engine builder dyno it with a leaner tune to the carb? As far as the losses, keep in mind that automatics have alot of parasitic loss in them. I suspect you're losing the greatest percentage in the tranny.
Camaro sounded good.
Like Matt says, Auto trans with high stall converters don't dyno very well.
I'll bet the car runs 10's with a decent 60' time.
Dan
I told the engine builder it was rich and he said the same thing, it was safer but that I could bring the car back if I wanted more tuning. It feels really fast so I may not.
I'd be happy if it ran 10's. It would definitely need some slicks on it though.
Yeah, the auto is hurting the dyno numbers but once you get dialed in on a launch RPM the auto will be a huge asset in bracket racing.
Cheer up Ben, the Camaro is one nasty car and as Dan and Matt mentioned the car will probably run 10s. We might have to start looking for a new nickname for you since you're already fast on the roadcourse and now you have a fast drag car, I see you're aiming for Hugh "Mr.202" Hoard >w
Hey Matt, sounds like you've done some drag racing in the past. What car were you running?
Thanks Art. The Camaro is plenty fast enough for me so I have no intention of trying to get to Hugh's level.
I've done a bit of amateur bracket racing in a Dakota R/T I had as well as my 2000 GTS and my 2006 SRT-10. Long ago, I restored a '69 Charger R/T SE that I wanted to run occasionally, but it never worked out and I sold it to get the 2000 GTS. However, I haven't dragged anything that can run the ETs and trap speeds of your Camaro.
I've had a couple of guys ask about doing a "Day at the Drags".
Maybe we could set something up this winter with DC at Fontana? Any interest?
On the drag front, I've run 10's with the Beast on drag radials by just slipping the clutch, rolling into the throttle and "granny shifting". Hard to keep from spinning.
No 9's yet, afraid of breaking things.
Pretty sure the run I had against the ZR1 in my ACR (for the TV show) would've been high 10's in the 1/4. I ran 7.35 @ 108 mph in the 1/8 mile and as you all know, the while the Viper isn't easy to launch, it finishes very strong in the 1/4.
Dan <2
Dan - Are you thinking about a track rental at Fontana? I'd definitely be in.
I'm in too.
Thanks
Matt and Ben,
Yes. I think we could get DC to come out and bring some cars and if we could get at least 10 cars (hopefully more), the cost per person wouldn't be too high.
It would have to be on a weekday to get the best rate and cooler weather works better for our cars - and most of us!
Wouldn't care to do the Saturday or Sunday deal where you sit in line most of the day waiting to run and get only one or two runs.
Hey Lance,
What do you think?
Any other interest?
Dan
I agree with the weekday deal. Last time we went on the weekend, it was pretty miserable....and I was there as a spectator! Took forever for the Vipers to get cycled thru.
DC Perf, could probably rally a bunch of the Viper truck guys to come out too. Maybe a little friendly competition could be set up with the VCTOA group?
Hey Dan,
Does Fontucky have an actual dragstrip now or is it still a blocked off part of the parking lot? Would this be a track rental or would we be sharing the track with the general public?
Hey Matt,
Auto Club Speedway at Fontana has a very well set up drag strip.
If we can get enough guys together, we'd rent the track.
Running with the "general public" can be challenging.
Dan
Challenging to say the least. If it's anything like LVMS, the only time worth going when the track is open to the public is the evening TnTs. The midnight mayhem events are totally overcrowded and the track gets bad quickly because every FWD rice-boy wants to pretend he's John Force and do a completely unneccessary run through the bleach box which, of course, leads to their rears carrying a bunch of water onto the launch pad and the first bit of the track.
BTW: is there any final word on dragging at VOI?

Hell, I'm old too and I doubt that extra drag will account for the 100 RWHP difference but I'll run ya anyway.
Do you know if they're going to prep the track at all this time? At VOI.9 there was no track prep at all.
