Title: Dyno Day at Stack Performance, April 5, in Anaheim
Post by: ViperX on March 09, 2009, 04:47:38 PM
Hi Guys,

Cathy and I visited a SRT Specialty shop in Anaheim recently.  We were both impressed.  >v

When owner Ryan Schumacher offered to hold a dyno day at his shop, I accepted on behalf of our group.  I really hope we can get some cars out for the day to meet Ryan and his crew.

If you are available on Sunday, April 5th, please stop by Stack Performance and check out Ryan's shop.  If you have your car "dynoed", 3 pulls, cost will be only $50.00 per car.  Our goal is 20 cars "dynoed" for the day.  Ryan will split the proceeds as a fund raiser for our club so if we get our 20 cars dynoed, Ryan will cut the club a check for $500.00.

Donuts and coffee will be available for the "early Sunday morning risers" - 9:00 AM and we're planning a BBQ lunch for our group.

Contact info is as follows:

     Stack Performance, LLC (http://www.stackperformance.com/)
     1275 N. Lance Lane
     Anaheim, CA 92806

     Ph: 714-630-5055
     Fx: 714-630-5021
     Toll Free: 1-877-STACK-01
     E: [email protected]

Please RSVP so that we can approximate the number of attendees for Ryan – he's supplying the food for the day.  There might even be a goodie for highest dyno numbers!

I'll have my 2009 ACR with Belanger Headers, Mopar Race Controller and K & N Filters dynoed for the first time that day.

See you there,

Dan  <2

Those interested can caravan from the Shady Canyon Starbucks, Irvine.  Arrive around 8AM, depart at 8:30AM, arrive Stack Performance at 9AM.

Hey Guys,

We'll be email - blasting the club some time this week letting everyone know of this event.  This will be our first group visit to Stack Performance and we'd really like to get some cars by his shop, specially you OC guys.

You don't have to put your car on the dyno (nice if you could), just come by and visit for a while, have coffee + in the morning or eat lunch with us.

Thanks,

Dan  <2

I'll be there, Dan.

Since I have dyno'd my Viper many times, do you suppose I could dyno the MINI?

Hey Bruce,

Don't know why not - I'd like to see the mini on the dyno.  I'm guessing a few others would like to see it too.

I think they have a four wheel dyno but am not sure .....

You may want to call Ryan and ask him?

Just tell him I want to be sure and "out dyno" someone with my ACR.

Hey Mike,

Any Dodge Dealer can do the calibration.  Takes about 30 minutes.  Hope to see you there.

Dave,

If the Shady Canyon Starbucks = the Quail Hill Starbucks (I think it does), then yes.

Dan,

I looked at the install procedure, much more than scan the box and install, isn't it? Seems like a test drive is required and a few other steps that I'm not comfortable with a non-viper specialist dealer to do.  I'm hoping to go to Dan as DC has done a few already.

Hey Mike,

Capo Dodge, Orange County CJD, Tustin Dodge and Tuttle Click Dodge all have a Viper tech or two.  It's a long ride into DC for this.

There is a short drive involved to set up the computer but it is a relatively short procedure - you should be able to wait for it.

Either way, it would be interesting to know the "before" and "after" results on your car.

Dan, thanks!  the guys at capo have done warrantee work before and I don't have any issues with them. I'll be at Stack for the dyno event and then maybe take the computer locally, get back to stack in 30 days to see the difference.

Mike's car looks and runs very good.

Love that color combo, red with silver stripes.

Selling my 2001 GTS ACR if anyone is interested.

Car will be mostly stock shortly, except for the 600 hp, bigger brakes,  SSR wheels, larger radiator and extra cooling fans, adjustable shocks, Archer Racing sway bars, Eibach springs, Accusump, etc.

Good group developing - looking forward to it.

You know, most of us have had our cars "dynoed" at DC.  It would be interesting to know the difference in the two dynos, i.e. does DC's dyno report lower or higher numbers than Stack's????

I'll be there for the Dyno...and food ;)

I am also working on a write up on exhaust systems upgrades I just did.  So if you have a Gen 3 and have done some exhaust upgrades, let me know as I will be shooting video to get together some comparison tests.  I'll also need one stock Gen 3 to do as a baseline.

Would be good to get video of the different systems idling, revving, etc. and then dyno runs too.  I'll have my decibel meter with me to quantify loudness and my laser heat gun to confirm hotter or cooler running systems.

I'll have my friend Anthony with me to help with the equipment and video.

Anhtuan,

I'll try and get a driver for my 06 coupe (Cathy's foot surgery precludes her).

It has Belanger headers, high flow metallic cats, OE muffler and 2 3/4 side exhaust.  I too have researched exhaust systems extensively for the Gen III cars and this is the best all around system that I've come up with.

It is reasonably quiet at idle and cruise, yet plenty loud at WOT.  It will be interesting  to see the current power level.

Also, I've asked Rev, aka Michael Burgoyne, to bring his 03 which has Belangers, high flow ceramic cats and Magnaflow (Belanger supplied) mufflers with side exhaust.  It's too loud for me but some seem to like it.

This should be fun if we can get a few other exhaust variations.

Hey Mike,

Just spoke with Stack and firmed everything up for Sunday.

Good news, they have a Star Scan and can install your Mopar race computer for you!

Perhaps we can do a before dyno (early AM), take your car out for a ride and then do an after?

Dan,

Great news!!! I called them Wednesday to tell them I'll pick up my KW's at the event.  Ryan is on vacation but they said he'd be back for the dyno event.  Glad to hear they have the scan tool.

Can you bring 8 gallons of 100 to the event (kidding!)

See you there, thanks for the great news!!

Hey Mike,

I'll likely make C & C in Irvine tomorrow morning, about 7:45 - 8:00 ish; then cruise up the coast to Beach Blvd, north on Beach to a gas station at a car wash on Beach and Garfield that sells 100 unleaded.

I'll top off my tank there with 100 and head home.  You are welcome to tag along if you'd like.

Should make for a 40% or so mix, good for the dyno day on Sunday.....after all, I bet Kobi one entire diet coke that my car would make more HP than his car - high stakes indeed!

Hey Mike,

Interesting looking at the numbers.

Here's how it came out between you, me and the Stack car (from memory):

Stack car, 595 rwhp, 575 rwtq, Belangers, Corsa Track 3.0 inch exhaust, Mopar ECU, stock tires / gear ratio, 114 decibles

Your car, 587 rwhp, 550 rwtq, Belangers, Magnaflow 20 inch muffler (Belanger 2.5 inch exhaust with 3 inch tip) stock tires / gear ratio, 114 decibles

My car, 576 rwhp, 550 rwtq, Belangers, OE 28 inch muffler (2.5 inch exhaust) 18 inch rear tires (equal to about 3.33 ratio - so some minor power loss there), 112 decibles.  92.4 degrees F on the dyno sheet during the run.

From this I conclude / guess the following:

1 - The Corsa Track offers some benefit in torque over the other 2.5 inch options.  It may offer some hp, not sure from this data.  It is supposed to drone less but is not quieter outside the car at WOT than the Belanger set up.

2 - Not sure how beneficial the Mopar computer is other than eliminating check engine lights.  This would require you to run your car again with the Mopar computer under the same weather conditions and me to run mine again with the OE tires / wheels on the car.

3 - The OE muffler is 20% quieter than either of the other muffler combinations at WOT and there is little or no drone, but it costs some hp up top.  Not real sure how much as with the shorter tires on my ACR, this may be the entire hp difference between you and me.  I doubt that the shorter tires cost me more than 10 or 12 rwhp (1 to 2%) so the Corsa's would seem to be the difference between my ACR and the Stack car.

Not sure why the dyno's measure different hp / tq numbers with changes in tire sizes or gear ratios but I know that it is real.

Another interesting fact, one of the new 2008 cars "dynod" at 561 rwhp bone stock with 700 miles on it.  That is one strong car.  These cars do vary and this demonstrates that fact.

Finally, on a road course, neither you nor I would notice a 10 or 20 rwhp difference - Tommy Archer might.  We might notice the 25 rwtq difference though.....

Know anybody with a Corsa Track for sale????

Dan   <2

Dan,

Nice write up, thanks!

All things being equal I guess the Corsa track makes a difference.

Would have wished you had 19's and run right after me at 87 degree heat.  I figured the ecu was worth 10-15 hp and I'll bet your graph has more power quicker in the band, we'll have to compare.

Interesting comment on the CEL.  Driving back on the 55 I noticed the CEL was gone!  I don't think Ryan flashed it so maybe running it hard on the 3 pulls cleared it??

I'm going to have them put in the ECU, maybe next week.  then maybe I can get back there in a few more weeks on a 90 degree day w/low humidity.

Thanks for setting this event up!!!!!!

Mike

Hey Art,

It was a modded engine, bigger blower, tune, exhaust, etc.

Made only 660 something - not sure of the exact number.

Doesn't compare with a highly modded Viper - many of which are 650 to 700 rwhp with just a Paxton.  Some go 750 to 850 ..... mine is over 900.....at the rear wheels.

BHP is a matter of spending the money.  Some of my FGT friends have 1200 BHP with both Hennessey Twin turbos and Superchargers.  Doesn't matter the amount of BHP.  There will always be someone coming down the road with more.  However, there is one major difference between owning a viper and owning a Ford GT.  Driving your viper up PCH on a Saturday afternoon, you get some blinked lights from one coming traffic, someone at a red light gives you a thumbs up, even had one guy last Saturday comment on the color, told me to take it to Willow Springs and "let it out".  I enjoyed that attention and the pure muscle of my viper.  When one is driving a Ford GT, there is a major difference.  Everywhere you go people are taking pictures as they pass you and the FGT on the road.  You park it at Neptune's Net or any restaurant and almost immediately there are 10 people around it, telling stories, taking pictures.  It is an awesome sports car to drive, unbelievable shifting, response, handling, corners melt away.  Everyone is facinated with it, it is one of the most recognizable sports car shapes of all time.  We had a rally to Las Vegas last September.  12 FGTs stopped at Bun Boy in Baker.  We all made a left out of the Bun Boy to take the right turn at the Mad Greek, the entire restaurant came out of the Mad Greek, motioned us to pull over and took photographs of the FGTs in a line.  It is constant attention to the beauty of the car.  I am a viper owner, have been since 2001.  I love my viper, would not change it for anything, even a red car, red shoes, red gloves and paddle shifters.  The So Cal Viper club is the best.  There were only 4038 FGTs built, approximately 25% have been destroyed in accidents.  They are not making it anymore.  It has tremendous sentimental value, as an anniversary car for the celebration of the 1966 sweep of Le Mans by Ford.  Mine has no price.  It is not for sale.  No price, period!  There really is no So Cal FGT club, probably around 60-70 FGTs cars in So California.  So there will never be competition with any car club.  But when you get 12 FGTs together, the highway patrol stop to see them.  Driving the FGT and then my viper, viper is great but it isn't a FGT.  But the FGT was double the price of any viper out there, so one would expect it to drive better.

So BHP and straight line accleration is one aspect, driving a unique FGT is something completely different.

Viva Le Viper et Le Ford GT.

They are both great and both American!  >v

Though I'm not a big fan of the Ford GT (I don't fit very well), I would generally agree with Hemotox, driving a unique sports car can be fun or can sometimes get you more attention than you want.  I thought my first couple of Vipers got attention.  The ACR is just sick - it gets more attention than I want most of the time.  I'd guess that the FGT is about the same - too much attention most of the time.

On the subject of driving the cars hard, I would give the nod to the Viper, especially when it comes to price.  I've driven Ford GT's and they just don't have the road feel or handling of the newer Vipers and are a bunch more money.  They are a bit "rear end happy" with more weight back there than I like.  Stock power levels seem to be about equal to the 08 / 09 Vipers.

On the subject of HP / TQ, it's all about money as the Doc says.  I've heard of a few FGT's with turbos making 1000 + hp.  I've also heard of Vipers with turbos making 1500 - 2000 hp, so the Viper gets the nod in the potential HP area too.

These are great times that we are living in.  Let's hope the current Gov doesn't interfere to much.

Dan

Doc,

Join us at the track some day with your FGT.

Then give the Viper a try.

We'll be running the infield course at Fontana in June.  Very safe track for newbies - good place to learn to drive the car(s).

Good invite, what are the dates?  My FGT has a better life than I do!

2000 BHP achievable in FGT with Hennessey Twin Turbo and Blower.  So its, the Money, who ever wants to spend the dough, will crank the most BHP.

How we doing on getting the SoCalViper Clubbers out for the San Jacinto Aerial tram on the 25th of this month???
Nice turn out would be great.

looks like the max personal bhp on the Ford GT Forum is 1450 bhp.  That's out of an 8 cylinder 5.4 liter engine.   <2 <2 <2

Don't the Ford GT's come with a 5.4 liter engine?

you are right, post corrected.  I think the viper has a much higher potential with 10 cylinders.  But at this level of bhp, where's the noticable difference?

At the very highest levels of HP / TQ, the difference is found in the one mile races and top speed events where traction and aerodynamics come into play.

Viper normally does very well here, beating out the Bugatti Veyron among others in the one mile races.

FGT does well too.

Just spoke with Ryan.

He (and I) noticed how well the Corsa Track Exhaust did on the 2008 convertible with the Belanger headers and Mopar controller, 595 hp / 575 tq.

He's offering some special pricing on Corsa Exhaust systems.  Contact Ryan for more info.

I already have mine - look out Mike B!

Looks to me like that little old Ford GT of Brucie's with the 5.4 liter V8 isn't too bad, eh?

Yeah, the FGT was pretty modded with items like a bigger blower, straight exhaust pipes and a custom tune.

That power level can be achieved in a Gen IV Viper with heads, cam and headers - no blower.

To each his own,  I love my viper, would trade it for anything.  But to me the most incredible american sports car in the last 10 years is the Ford GT.  Yours is the Viper ACR.  Both are awesome.   >v

Touche, PCH

Forgot the "n't"  Should have read "I wouldn't trade it for anything".  Especially for a Lexus that Arturo drives!

Dang Lance! I missed a good trade by 5 hours!  I'm sure Hemotox would have been thrilled to cruise in a lightning fast silver Honda Civic sedan down PCH.  Think about Hemotox, the silver Civic would complement the Tungsten FGT nicely. >v

PCH VIPER is the silver dude.  Graphite GTS + Silver Honda.  He is the man for the 2nd PCH cruisemobile.   I'll stay with the SSG coupe.

Arturo, West LA 7:15 at the Santa Monica Blvd exit off the 405, Saturday AM?  Original Root will be there. We'll head out to Flo's arriving by 8:30.  Anyone wanting to join us from the Northern part of So Cal Viper Nest, Flo's at the Chino Airport at 8:30 AM, Saturday the 25th.  We will then head out to the I-10 and Indian turnoff leaving between 10:00AM.

Doc,

Thanks for the referral on Cathy's foot surgeon.  She is healing nicely and should be walking almost normally by the weekend.

Excellent, glad she has a good result.  Would be a little difficult if it wasn't!   >w

Lets put the SSG and the ACR together for some photos on Saturday.  Looking forward to it.  Even had DC Performance change my oil!  I am bringing OriginalRoot, we just need a casino for Madonna to win enough to pay for the trip!   <2

So Cal Viper Nest will be alive on Saturday.
