RICHARD'S SPRING RUN
SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 2012
MEET AT 10 AM

Richard Palkovic will lead our Vipers on a merry chase through the hilly, twisty, turning roads on past Temecula where we will stop at Rainbow Oaks Restaurant for lunch about 11:30 or so.  This is a spirited, fun drive and the food at Rainbow Oaks is served in huge portions (and it's good!).

We will meet at 9:30AM at the Shell Station on Temescal Canyon Rd, Corona: MAP TO SHELL STN (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=23255+Temescal+Canyon+Rd,+Corona,+CA+92883&sll=34.043699,-117.036495&sspn=0.080366,0.107975&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=23255+Temescal+Canyon+Rd,+Corona,+Riverside,+California+92883&z=16) .  This is at the TEMESCAL off ramp about 7 mi. south of Hwy 91; address: 23255 Temescal Canyon Rd, Corona.
WE WILL LEAVE AT 10 AM for the run.  There are some nice twisties and hills to drive through, and Richard will try to keep us under a 95 mph for the switchback curves.
>1
It is recommended that you go to the AutoX the month before to get ready for this!  (just kidding).  This will be a great run for you to wake up those Vipers after hiding them away from the rain and winter weather.

The Corvette Club is coming into the Rainbow Oaks Restaurant about an hour after our planned arrival; so let's not lag along on that twisty ride, Viper guys!  We want to get there and get all the BEST PARKING SPOTS before they start arriving!!!

COME ON, SIGN UP!: It is not necessary to let us know, so if you get a last minute opportunity to join us, please do so!  But if we can get a reasonable head-count it will help the restaurant and allow us to get better service, so if you know you can go, say so.

Sweet!

This happens to be on my birthday! And its somewhat more local to me here in San Diego!

How long will the drive be and what is the start and end times of this run? Or is that yet to be announced?

Hey Derek,
Richard hasn't finalized the run yet.  My guess is that we will be done around 1:00 or so.
I'm sure Richard will pre run this and get us the details shortly.  He never fails us and always takes us on some great driving roads.

OK VIPER GUYS!  It's planned.  See the post with the changes, please, but this recaps it:
930AM at the Shell Station at Temescal Canyon Rd, leaving on the run from there at 10am.  We should arrive about 11:30 at the Rainbow Oaks Restaurant, which is about 10 miles or less south of Temecula right off the I-15 for easy access to head home.  These runs through the hills in this area are always fun and Richard does a great job planning the route.
The food at the Rainbow Oaks Restaurant comes in HUGE portions so plan to be fed well with good food.   See ya at the run!  Pam

I have a race that weekend saturday and sunday up in apple valley and this event is right on the way!

Here is my idea that i need yours guys help with....

me and my dad both want to come to this event.
my dad can drive my truck up fully loaded with all my race stuff and ill be in the viper.
my dad can hop in with me in the viper at the start of the run. and we can go on the run with everyone.
the downside is i need a place to store my truck. its a 00' ford ranger that will be loaded with aprox 10k worth of race peds and equipment. I am hopping maybe someone that lives not far away from where we will be at aprox 20-30 mile radius preferably off the 15 will let me store my truck in their garage or somewhere very safe while we are on the viper run.

LMK guys if you can help me out i'd really like to make this event!

Hi Derek,

What numbers did she pull @ DC Performance?  <2

hey!

I just got the dyno results after a week or 2. I guess there machine had an issue or something...
Anyways i was very happy with the results. she is putting down a solid 622 RWHP and like 600 trq? i think.... can't remember off the top of my head. plenty of power for me :)

Im pretty happy with it. There was definitely a noticeable power increase! and for some reason i think its getting better gas mileage as well which is a very big plus with gas prices being dam near $5 bucks a gallon! glad its only a weekend car that gets drives only 1-2 times a month!

Here a video of its current set up.
Enjoy!

we definately want to be at the restaurant after our run first and have the parking dominated by Vipers!  Congrats to the members who participated in the March AutoX!  Hope to see some of you at this run!

This is shaping up to be a GREAT run!  Over 14 cars expected already.  New member, Dan Campbell will join us in his "93 Viper, and his son will be following the "snake" in his '99 Prowler, that they assure us will easily keep up with it's 375 HP Supercharged engine.  If our friends show up, we might have to put one in Paul's Viper and I'll join the rear ranks in my supercharged SL55 AMG Mercedes...  looks like we might have a bit of a car show at the restaurant!

Paul & Teresa are also looking forward to this event.

Richard knows the back roads well, and always strings together great views, great roads, and great times.

Since Richard drives with a certain enthusiasm all the Vipers get a little exercise, but in a pretty safe and controlled manner.

For people that want a fresh look at the San Diego back country this is a "don't miss" event.

I have seen Pam drive in her hopped up Mercedes. It travels with the Viper pack, no problem.

Maybe someday we should do a "drive your other car" ViperClub event.

Having replaced our hot rod E-55 with a new Audi A6 with it's 3.0 liter supercharged V6 and 4 wheel drive, I'd put this little Audi up against the V8 Mercedes in any set of tight "twisties".

That said, the supercharged MB's are very fast in a straight line and can out run some Vipers; just don't ask the heavy MB's to turn ......

Don't worry about signing up late!  There's no problem fitting more in.  Richard was just saying yesterday, as he pre-ran the route, that he hopes a lot show up, as this is going to be an awesome run!  Late comers... last minute joiners.... ALL WELCOME!  Just show up at the start point and off we'll go!  And, hey, this place he chose for lunch is a real fun place; Sports Cars and Motorcycles always welcome and at this place.  See ya there!  Pam & Paul

SAN DIEGO VIPERS:  We'll gather at 8:30AM at the PARK & RIDE on Hwy 76 & I-15,  and we'll pull out of there at 8:45 in order to be at the Shell off Temescal Canyon Drive where the whole group gathers by 9:30.  Richard wants to pull out of there NO LATER than 10AM so please get there on time.  The group that's coming to the restaurant right behind us is a Chevy Club (not a Corvette Club as we previously were told) and we are hoping there's some Vette's there so we have something to upstage.  Anyway, it'll be fun!  These are the final times, so ignore any discrepancies in previous posts as things have changed and evolved.  The Original post has been corrected to these times.
Please check Lance's post for OC Vipers to join him on his way to the Shell.  -  Pam

Downey area, I can meet you off the 91 freeway or the 105, at the 710 or 605 fwys, need to find a location with flat driveways; I think these locations will benifit you so you are not going out of your way. Let me know if you are game.

See you there; than we can caravan to the main meeting place.

We had a great turnout with 37 Vipers and beautiful warm weather.
Starting out in Corona and winding our way south on Temescal Canyon Road, the scenery and great driving roads were an absolute blast.
