RUN TO LAKE ARROWHEAD

SATURDAY, JUNE 11, 2011

Details have been firmed up for this run !!  Please sign up if you think you might attend so we can get a count for the restaurant.

We will have a really nice cruise up to Lake Arrowhead with some nice twisty roads and absolutely beautiful views.
We will have lunch in Cedar Glen at Borderline Restaurant where they will block out parking for our cars.  They are going to set up a Mexican buffet for us, so this will eliminate the long wait for food.  Cost will be $14.00 each and include soft drinks.  Tip is not included.

Following lunch, we have parking blocked out at the Village Center so we can park and stroll the shops at the Village Center.  There is also a boat tour available for those who wish to go.  Tickets are available at Leroy's Ski and Sport and can be purchased up to an hour before the tour.  The tours leave every hour on the the hour.

I was just up there a couple of weeks ago. The road up to Running Springs (330) is closed. i took the Waterman (18) exit of the (210).
We had lunch at the Belgian Waffle Place right at the Lake front. They have a patio during the summer.
A couple of years ago I was up there for a Porsche Club meet were the lined up all the cars along the Lake Arrowhead boardwalk. They went from the earliest 356 to the 912, 911 all the way to the 911GT3 RS. It was a great display.

The Belgian Waffle house is the best !   We had a house on the lakefront for 8 years and spent every weekend up there.   Absolutely beautiful.

can probably make this one, if I can get OriginalRoot up that early to cruise to the East!  I think we must be the only LA county members?

I had a really great time at the car clinic! The dinner at Penwals was awesome as Disneyland is my favorite park. I hope all is well for everyone and look forward to seeing all of you again! This will be another fun run! Take care, Luke

Our turn to be out of town!

Cathy and I will be visiting Lance's Pacific Island paradise.

Viper X,

I had a cancellation in my booked weekends and I am probably going to be available for this one.  If I can get Root up and running with his slow blue snake we will be there.  However, we will probably take the 60 to Chino, breakfast at Flo's then meet the nest of snakes in or near Yucaipa.

Where are you going to in Hawai'i ?

I get a rash when I drive into Orange Co.  So we will probably avoid all those packed OC traffic roads and meet at the base of the mountain.

Hey Doc,
Definitely get with the Root and drag him out for this.  We are meeting in Rancho Cucamonga and heading up from there.  The road up is going to be a fun drive.

Let me know what time you are going to breakfast....I may have to meet you guys for my biscuits and gravy fix.

Hey Doc,

We are visiting three islands starting at Maui, on to the Big Island then on to Oahu before coming home.

Will be gone about 10 days.  Nothing crazy planned, just cruising around, seeing the sights, maybe hiking a bit and generally taking it easy.

Cathy set up the itinerary, so this is about as much detail as I have involved myself in at this time.

Put me down for this one, if I can get OrignialRoot on board.  I think we are the only two So Cal Viper club members who live in LA County!  He has an extremely slow Shelby Blue GTS coupe that someone has to run wing man with him so he doesn't get lost! He generally has more excuses than I do for not coming on Viper Events, but I will beat on him to adjust his calendar for this one.

I would like to make a suggestion that anyone coming on this run meet at:

Flo's Diner, 7000 Merrill Avenue, Chino Airport @ 7:45 AM.

We get the snakes together in the parking lot, have the famous Flo's sausage and biscuit gravy breakfast and then at 9:15 head to Rancho Cucamonga Petrol Station.

Hey we need to talk this run up.  Last year we had 29 vipers.  Need some major PR work here.

Flo's is on for 7:45 AM on June 11th.  Below is the map.

It is 15.6 miles from Flo's in Chino to the Rancho Cucamonga Petro Station.  Should be a no problem connection.
A is Flo's and B is the Cheveron Station in Cucamonga

Where is Arturo del Toro?  I'll buy his breakfast at Flo's.

Excellent response, nice to see beating the snake nest brings out the vipers!

Still no Arturo del Toro?  We need to arrange baby sitting. How do you get a bull excited?

Would be nice to have Stephanie and Glenn bring out one of their many vipers to this event???   >w  so at least most of us who just own one can see a real legend viper!

What about the Fast Eddies in the club.........  silent!

We have 11 so far, (29 last year, 2 weeks to go!),  PCH VIPER, I assume that "Joel" means Original Root?  He is somewhere in New Mexico driving an 18 wheeler delivering produce or something.  I got a near definitive affirmative from him on his cell.  That confirms the only 2 SC Viper members who live in LA county will be there.

Well at least I won't get a rash having to drive through the Big OC, hee hee  =6

Okay, okay, Doc, I feel the love and with Jim in I have to go!  Assuming Original Root is in that will make 4 of us LA guys.

Long Beach Fast Eddie will be sipping on umbrella drinks in the Dominican Republic, so he will be MIA; Santa Clarita Bumble Bee Eddie needs to come out as he has no legitimate excuse for missing!

Well there can't be too many more of us in LA County.  As most members live behind the Orange Curtain, so we need to stick together.

I will continue to hassle the Original Root.  I think he is a definite.  Fast Eddie Long Beach is in the right place at the wrong time, way too hot.  Flo's for breakfast, invitation is open to everyone who is looking for some camaraderie, snakes, breakfast, and laughs.

I am buying Arturo's breakfast at Flo's, he just needs to get a few more snakes committed to this run.  It will be spectacular weather and vistas.  And consuming sausage and biscuit gravey makes the clutch smoother on shifting.

According to the Beastly Garden of Wordy Delights

http://www.anapsid.org/beastly.html

the collectgive noun for snakes can be a "bed, nest, pit, or rave"

It would be nice to see a "Rave of Vipers" heading up to Lake Arrowhead on the 11th of June!  The Rim of the World drive,

I appreciate the biscuits n gravy and lord knows I love them, but I'm passing on them this time as I have an early morning commitment in Anaheim and I'm trying to get rid of my round shape.  I will try to get to Flos before you leave, if not I will be at the gas station.

No problem, I can get a couple of orders to go, you freeze them when you get home and the next Viper event you, me, and Fast Eddie will warm them up and finish them off!

Need to see more Viper Owners attending this event.

For those that are interested after lunch, I have made arrangements for blocked out parking at the Village Center.  This will be in their employee lot very close to the Village Center.  After lunch, we can cruise over there, park and take a ride on the Lake Arrowhead Queen which is a nice boat tour around the lake.  Cost is $10.00 each to ride the boat.

Just A Little Scientific Terminology for Viper Owners:

Solenoglyphous:

A Dictionary of Zoology
Solenoglyphous is applied to snakes that have long, hollow, articulated fangs which fold against the roof of the mouth when the jaws are closed. The fangs are the only teeth in the maxilla (upper jaw) and are capable of injecting venom deep into prey. The pit vipers (Crotalidae) and true vipers (Viperidae) are solenoglyphous

Opistoglyphous:

Opistoglyphous is applied to snakes that have enlarged teeth towards the rear of the maxilla (upper jaw) and smaller teeth in front. The fangs may be solid or with a groove to allow saliva to enter wounded prey. Spitting Cobras are in this class.

Proteroglyphous:

A Dictionary of Zoology
Proteroglyphous applied to snakes that have fangs at the front of the maxilla (upper jaw), often with small solid teeth behind. The fangs are hollow and short, as in cobras, mambas, and coral snakes (Elapidae).

So I guess we viperidae are Solenoglyphys !

Just got back from the run.

Day started out cloudy, with some drizzle in the air due to the coastal eddy.

The sun came out as we left San Diego, and brightened up as we got near to Riverside. >r

As we slithered up the mountainside, along fantastically beautiful scenery, the sun was out fully, and while the air was a refreshingly cool 65 degrees, the Vipers romped up the mile high ride to lunch. The cool air made the Viper engines pretty frisky, and the sweeping corners up the mountain were easy prey for the cars. <2

As we got out for lunch the clean mountain air, and bright sunshine made for a perfect day.

We munched on a yummy steak barbeque. The club took over the entire restaurant, and lots of good Viper friends got the chance for some good conversation over lunch.

The next stop was at the lake itself. Arrowhead has rarely looked better. The blue water was buzzing with water skiers and cris craft cruisers. The lake was full to the brim, and everybody was walking around smiling. >v

Lots of the club members made a bee line for the ice cream station, where the biggest decision was whether to order sugar or waffle cones. >p

As we laid around on the grassy knowl, the sun felt good, and the ice cream needed to be quickly licked down as it melted.

Special thanks to Lance for organizing all the stopping points, as well as the restaurant. We had reserved VIP parking at each stop. >s

Think it is now time for a nap, and some good memories of another successful Viper Run.

It was a terrific day for a real fun Viper run, and I have to say THANKS LANCE!!! because he did ALL the work!  I just rode along, enjoyed the food (wasn't it great how easy we were able to get fed today?) and found so much to do in the little village.  Everyone seemed to fall right into finding what they enjoyed doing after lunch.  Again, thanks, Lance.  This was a good one.  And thanks, "Hemotox", for all the photos!  Much appreciated.
Now, Viper members, check out the other posts, please, and hit that "REPLY" and type in something.  You don't have to commit to the event.  Just check 'em out and say you've looked it over.  As Lance said at the driver's meeting today, we need to have our members make these replies so that the future advertisers will realize we all get onto the sites so it will make it worth their while to advertise in the future.  Check out the posts, let me know if there's something I can do to better them or the event!  Pam Winters - SoCal Social Director

Matthew and I had a blast. It was great to see everyone.  Thank you Lance for putting together another great event. Jim and Judy thanks again for the ice cream.  >p. I certainly needed a nap after that.

We had a great turnout with 33 cars today.  That is what makes our club events successful and fun !

Thank you again Hemotox for buying us all breakfast this morning !  What a great way to start our day.

Thank you for taking great pictures and posting them.   For some reason, I'm finding it harder and harder to find time to take pictures at our events.
I have the pics up on my site now.   www.kouchicentral.com (http://www.kouchicentral.com)

Here are a few that you missed.

Not sure that excuse is pardonable?  Penitence is important here!

Missing breakfast at Flo's and then a miss a "Viam Viperorum" (The Way of the Vipers) may not be forgiveable  =6

I might have to ask for a Presidential pardon  >l

Sorry I missed the biscuits n gravy, but I'm especially sad that I missed the run and an opportunity to catch up.  I hope you can make another event in the near future.

Can't make the Sept 10 run, I will be circumnavigating the Sierra Nevadas with the So Cal Mini Maniacs.  A most excellent 3 day run around the Sierras.   >g

Fun run on saturday I had a great time with the club. That was my first run up the mountain in the snake. What a blast, we need them to close the road for us next year.  >v
