SUNDAY - Sept 16th - Visit to CAMP PENDLETON ^3
ALL VIPER OWNERS ARE INVITED! OVER 30-CARS SO FAR!Many Americans would like to show our men and women in the military that we appreciate their service to our country. Therefore, we have organized an opportunity for the SoCal Viper Club to put on a car show for these folks at Camp Pendleton.
We've been approved to visit our Marines SUNDAY, September 16th. We will be visiting the School of Infantry (SOI) where
all Marines go after boot camp prior to deployment or assignment. Marines injured during training are also housed here. We will park the cars – in a "car show" type setting around the School of Infantry's emblem on their Parade Deck. Our visit will be from 1500 to 1800 hours (3PM to 6PM) and will be in conjunction with a church group that will be putting on a BBQ for the SOI. We've been told that we should expect 500 to as many as 2,000 Marines!!!
The base newspaper will be covering this event and they have arranged for a couple of helicopters to fly over and take photos! ^2
Dan and I visited the base today for a "walk-through" with Captain Hayter from the Wounded Warrior Battalion – the look on the faces of the guys as we drove our Viper on base was a very cool site. Their fun comments began the minute we pulled up to the base entrance. We found out that the majority of those in SOI don't get an off-base leave until the 8-weeks of training is complete. This event will be quite special for them. We will need a dozen or so cars – with an empty passenger seat – to caravan to the Wounded Warrior Battalion, pickup a Marine, and caravan back to SOI for the car show. Please let us know if you can help with this.
The reason for this visit is to say "thank you" to the Marines for their service to our country. There is no other agenda than to show our gratitude. This date is approaching fast, so if you'd like to attend please let us know.

Hay Dan, since we already have a Viper vs the Air Force's Jet, Why not we see if the guys at Pendleton would like to start our own grudge match. Viper vs Humvee!!! I think we 've got a shot at it. (no pun intended)... ^3
>8 Darryl & Dianne are officially RSVPing
Hey Dan and Cathy,
I'll bring the camera !
Lance
Hey Gary,
I think you might have hit on something. Some of us might actually be able to beat a humvee in a race, as long as it's "on road" and not "off road"!
Dan <2
Dave & Lisa Chrisman will be there also! >2 ^3
We visited Camp Pendleton as a club, along w/ a few other car clubs, a few years ago for a group of Marines that was getting ready to be deployed. The Marines in attendance really enjoyed it. I've put this one on my calendar. I'll be there.
Roger O'Brien
I wish I could be there. I am stationed there on Pendleton, but right now I am serving in Iraq. Tell my fellow Marines hello for me.

Trust me, H2's get squirrely around 90 <3 ^8
I've heard the humvees are worse.
Hey Curt,
Last time I saw you was at Donut Derelicts and Crystal Cove last summer.
Too bad you won't be home when we roll into Pendleton. When are you scheduled to come back home?
Maybe we can get Dave C. to put together a special run through the San Diego back roads as a little homecoming for you.
Take care and be safe. ^3
Lance
Hey Lance,
It has been a while since we both attended the same get together. While I have no official word on my return date, estimates are for beginning of December. A welcome home run in San Diego sounds like a good time, but I probably will not be able to until after the holidays. Have to get my stateside life set back up before I can retrieve my Viper and cruise again. <2

Art, Do you also want to meet for lunch with the group?
I'm going to bypass lunch, since I'm coming from L.A. I'll be at the mercy of traffic. I'll get a quick bite at Carl's Jr. Thanks for looking out for me and my stomach <1
Hey Dan & Cathy,
Unfortunately, I will be skipping lunch as well.
I'll meet up with everyone at Carl's.
Aside from our Vipers and support, is there anything else we could bring/donate for these guys?
Lance
Cathy and I visited the base today and the white Viper coupe received a lot of attention. We went over to the Wounded Warrior Center and met some of the guys. We spent some time looking over the center and talking cars with the guys.
I think the biggest thing that we could give these guys (that's in our budget) is a ride in our cars. We will be trying to get a group of 12 or so Vipers to pick up wounded / recovering Marines from the Wounded Warrior Center and drive them over to the car show that will be held at the School of Infantry on the Parade Deck. This is about a thirty minute ride and we'll need some volunteers.
We thought about T-shirts, hats, etc. but after visiting these guys today, they all wanted to sit in the Viper, hear it run and most of all get a ride in it. They wanted to drive it too, but you have to draw the line somewhere.
The Captain in charge said that we might have between 300 and 500 Marines at the this show but as many as 2,000 could pass through, so we really can't afford to give every one of them something at this time. Maybe next time.....

Go faster you maggots! ;D You have to love the boot camp scenes from Full Metal Jacket.
Cathy and Dan,
I'm reporting for Driving Duty.
<6 Please keep an eye on the first post - it will be kept up to date with attendees: Base / Lunch / Drivers
I would be infatuated to be apart of this event, please count me in! I passed Camp Pendleton yesterday on my way to SD and saw 2 f16's flying tandem, amphibious machines in play, as well as a few tanks cruising down the dirt roads off the 5! Also saw what seemed to be an Cobra Helicopter landing :o
We saw an Osprey hovering last Friday.
The base newspaper will be covering this event and they have arranged for a couple of helicopters to fly over and take photos.
This is one big base.
Dan
Hey Dan count me in. No lunch I'll meet up at Carl's.
Thanks.
Dave & Lisa are RSVPing for lunch also! ^1
Lance and Eddie,
Since you're both skipping lunch, you guys want to caravan? <2
Hey Art,
Name the place and time...I'll be there.
Lance
Lance,
Eddie is in and we decided to let you name the place and time, since you're most familiar with the trips down to SD. We are all on the same boat, skipping lunch and driving one of the wounded warriors.
Hey Eddie, Art and anyone else that wants to cruise down with us,
Let's meet at 1:00 at the Starbucks in Irvine off the 405 and Shady Canyon. Leave around 1:15 to meet up with the others in San Clemente.

Looks good to me Lance!
Eddie, I'll pick you up at the Shell station on South off of the 605, cool? About 12:15 pm, this will give us 45 minutes to get to Starbucks.
Art I'll be there.
Me and Lena are in for everything! ^3
Cool,
See you two at lunch.
