Will this event be rain or shine?  I think today is the last day I can cancel my room reservation.

I talked to Don about it Friday, his record was 328 on the salt.  I forgot to ask if it was at El Mirage, or Bonneville.

On one run he was doing 308 and couldn't get good traction and the guys in the control said he was fishtailing so much that they could read the numbers on both sides of the car!

Looking forward to it, I just made reservations for Saturday night.  Jennifer and I will be there for all the Saturday stuff.  We'll have to miss the Friday night hangout.

Now I just need to see if I can fit in the car while wearing a helmet...  Should I assume that if a helmet is required that the convertible top must be up?

I'm really sorry I missed it, it looks like you all had a lot of fun.  I need to make it a point to make more events this year.

BTW- glad you got a picture of this car:

The driver of that car, Don Carr is a friend and co-worker of mine.  He drives an old Cadillac now.

I'm trying to find more info on the event. I understand that there is reserved time for Vipers and Corvettes, but are other cars welcome for later that day?

What is the cost?

Thanks,

I've never been to VOI.  Would it still be a fun event without the Viper?

Besides the driving events, what else is there to do and see at VOI?

thanks,

Track Events / Re: What do I need for track events?

It just occurred to me that I never thanked you guys for the long and helpful replies.  I have been digesting it all and do plan to attend one of these events soon.

I'm really looking forward to the autocross that was mentioned at the Christmas party.  I'll work my way up to a real track.  I love driving the Viper.  It's a true drivers car.

thanks again!

Thanks everyone for putting this together, it was really fun and it was great to see everyone again.  I had a busy morning and forgot my camera... I won't make that mistake again!

I'm really looking forward to the next event.

I know this is a Viper Club event, but considering that it will be after dark are most of you planning on driving your Vipers?

I was finally able to talk to Eddie.  It appears that the cat just failed for no reason.  I also called Dan at DC, and he said he has seen the same thing a few times before.  At 14,000 miles, maybe it was just a factory defect.

If I had to pay for the repair, I might press for additional testing, but since this isn't costing me one cent, I just need to be thankful, and hope for the best, ... or hope that it fails before January ;)

Hopefully when I talk to Eddie, I might be able to get more information out of him.  The warranty is only good through mid January, so I really do need to get to the heart of the problem.

I just got a call from Bill Luke Dodge.  Clogged cat was the problem, and it was covered under warranty!  It won't cost me anything.

I haven't spoken to Eddie yet, but according to Earl who I talked to, Eddie has never seen anything like it before.  I don't know exactly what that means.

I asked what caused it, and their best guess was all the years of the car just sitting around and not being driven.

What I don't get is how something so severe could happen instantly.  When I talk to Eddie, maybe he'll be able to explain it.

I'm planning to fly out on Thursday to pick up the car and finish our vacation :)

Track Events / What do I need for track events?
October 28, 2011, 02:50:22 PM
I have a 2004 Convertible. I'm looking for fun, not competition.

I assume I need a helmet on almost any track, but...

Do I need tow hooks?
Do I need a racing suit?
Do I need racing shoes?
Do I need racing Gloves?

Should I have those things even if they are not required?

I can't afford to make it a big hobby, but I think once or twice a year would be good.  I can't afford to abuse the car too much, but I think occasionally it does need to be driven properly!

thanks,
~Jay

Jennifer and I plan to be there.  I'll put the check in the mail box tomorrow morning.

It will be great to see everyone again before I forget your names.
