Ben. Thanks for the info.  West Coast Racing always puts on a great track day.  The perfect place to start if you are a beginner.  Actually West Coast Racing is where I got my start on the track with a Viper. 8)

This is a great event and usually has a number of folks from SoCal in attendance.

If you've not tracked your viper or only a few times, they offer good instruction and I'd be happy to help anyone learn the track and I'm sure Ben would too.

Hi guys,

I'll be tracking my Viper both days, and will likely bring another Gen V Viper friend with me, possibly with a couple of Ferrari owners as well.  It will be my first time on Big Willow, so I'll try to take it slow.  Should be fun!

Hey what's up Lance and Scott?  Man, I'll never forget the party you guys threw in Santa Barbara.  My daughter wants to go to the next one, but my lady May is next in line, LOL.

I'm working on a few more of my friends.  Lee from San Luis Obispo will be there in his black Gen III, in addition to Gary from San Jose in his Gen V and maybe my friend Mike in his 458.

You guys have a good sized group of track rats down there, hoping to stir some of that up in NorCal.

Hey Viper Girl, So now I know why you nearly bought a Gen V, but were suddenly quiet on the subject.  You turned to the dark side and bought a C7, LOL.  All kidding aside, nice machine!  Looking forward to seeing it one day with that supercharger.

I've got a mission for you - as you know, Brad just bought his TA.  I met him at the NorCal Christmas Party, and he was excited about getting it to the track.  Give him a nudge to join us, will you?  I only had 1,300 miles on my Viper before I took it to Thunderhill and beat on it hard.  It can take all he can dish out  8)

Yep, we tried to buy a Gen V... Launch edition.
It really came down to the clutch pressure... I have a major left knee issue, and the Gen V clutch pressure was still too much for my knee... I drove it then could hardly walk the next day... My buddy John liked the C7 and the C7 clutch is light as air, I don't know how the chevy engineers managed that. But it barely feels like you are pushing the pedal... 7 speeds is really weird though.

I'm getting a 01 Gen II which will have to have a different transmission, maybe the comp coupe one that you only use the clutch on take off... We'll see what works.

Almost forgot to respond to this... I have to email Brad today anyway, so I will tell him about the Willow track day...

I do know that this is his busy time of the year... With Tax time coming up, he likely won't make a track day until after tax season... But I'll push him a little  8)

Ben,
Matthew Gross will run on Saturday.  I've tracked my car quite a few times I will have to flash my brake fluid out it's getting to be dark brown color.  I have 10K miles on my car is there anything else I should check or change.  I am a strong believer in preventative maintenance.
Thank you,   8)

Hey Matthew,
Since you are going to track it at WSIR and will need to have it "tech inspected", I would take it over to Dan Cragin.  If he gives it a once over, you can rest assured that it will be good to go.

I looked at their web site, and can't find an option for the one day price. Also, it seems that they have a pretty basic tech checklist.  Can I just do that myself, or do I need to pay someone to do it?

I plan to attend.  I'm looking forward to seeing Todd's Stryker Red car on the track.

Jay,

On their site, in the contact area is a link to Jim Sexton.  Send him a note, tell him you heard he has a 1 day price and tell him your from the SoCal viper club.  We've supported Jim and he's likes us and accomodates us.

For tech, you probably can self-tech.  But, I'd suggest you take it over to Dan Cragin and have him look it over. We can all do a pretty good visua,l but Dan will check the hubs, brakes lines and a number of other items on his lift.

See you there!

Mike

Matthew and Jay,

Yes, you can self-tech but like Lance and Mike said, You'll get a more thorough tech from Dan Cragin.
If it hasn't been professionally inspected recently then I would recommend it. I had mine gone through recently by Dan Cragin (SPT) and Erik Messley (EMI) so I'm just self-teching for this one.

If you want to go just one day then pay $185 and make a note on the registration that you will only be attending Sat.

Hi all,

I ran Willow Springs in the Camaro last weekend.  What a blast!  Love this track, very wide and easy to learn.  My Camaro has the honor of familiarizing me with a new track before I take the Viper.  I ran a best of 1:33.778 in the Camaro.

The track strikes me as easy on brakes, very hard on tires.  I went to cord on my Nitto NT-01s, this was on their 4th track day.  So make sure you have plenty of tread.  I drive pretty hard and the Camaro has a big wing, both of which probably contributed to the wear.

I'm in for dinner Saturday too.  I'll be driving up Friday eve and departing Sunday eve.

I have fire extinguishers and mounts for all generation Vipers if anyone needs one you can contact me or follow the link:http://speedtactics.com/dodge_viper_feb_0310.php
If you want I can bring it to the track for you. It takes only a few mins to install.

Scott, I'm interested and another Gen V owner, Gary C, may also be.  My guess is that we would both take you up on your offer for help to install.  The vid looks clean, have you test fit it in a Gen V Viper?  Does it directly bolt in?

Do you know if a black bracket / black extinguisher is in stock?

Thanks

Sounds great. I have installed the bracket in Mike Bell's Gen 5 car. I just spoke with Gary and I can bring everything out to the track with me. Let me know the color of the extinguishers you want.

Hi all,

Weather forecast is looking bad, I don't think I can make it after all.  To compound things, my friends Gary and JJ were going to haul my track wheels and slicks but they're not attending either.

I won't track my Viper in the rain.  100% chance of rain Friday which means the run off areas adjacent to the track will be muddy; 60% chance of rain Saturday, 20% chance Sunday.  At some tracks, muddy run off means increased chance of rollovers.

Curious where others stand.

Thanks,

Todd

Todd,  Sorry to hear you can't make it.  willow does drain very well, just a couple of possible spots where there is light gravel run-off.  I don't think you could find "dirt" at willow!

Bumbed about the rain!

I was going to head up Friday night to a hotel then get there early am

I'm going to watch the weather and probably best case leave Saturday am from Dana Point and get there late morning.

Sunday should be good and there are 5 sessions.  Unless the storm just sits over us, then Plan B is to leave Saturday afternoon and get up there before sundown

As Ben mentioned, rain has a funny way of missing Willow, who knows Saturday may work out and I have a feeling Sunday will be great

Look for the new and improved "VPR TOWR"

Weather was wet Saturday which made it a bit sketchy on track but we did get one pretty dry session in late morning. Lance, Scott, and Bruce came out to hang for a while.

Sunday was totally dry on track and turned out to be a great day.

Only took a few phone pics from Sunday. I think Scott and Lance took some pics Saturday.

Sunday turned out to be a pretty good day, never a drop of rain and the crowd was lite , except Ben kept getting blocked at some point in every session!  Temps only got to maybe 50, which was cool when the sun wasn't shining.  But those cool temps provided great engine hp.

Bruce, sorry I didn't get chance to see you and Lance, got a later start Saturday am and must have hit 3 or 4 different squalls along the way that had traffic going at 10 mph for a few miles.

Too bad Saturday weather was bad, it would have been great to see more viper folks there.  Mike

Sunday made up for a rainy Saturday. We had a great track day and lots of track time! I had a great time chasing down the "Radical Dude" and working over all the vette's and mustangs in our session! Nothing like a little Viper bite to show them you can't mess with the snake,  ;D
It was great to hang out with Johnny Yuma and his wife in their fantastic Motorhome and relax in comfort.
Sorry so many people bailed out because of the rain, too bad since Sunday was totally dry and great track day.
Hopefully we can get the sidewinder group built back up to have a good strong core of Vipers at the track in future events.
