Title: Nov. 10th - The Great Pumpkin Run
Post by: admin on June 26, 2007, 09:30:09 PM
CANCELED DO TO THE FIRES

ANNUAL GREAT PUMPKIN RUN - Is now even "greater"  Put on by Eric "Hemotox" Johnson & Dave "RaceCars" Cawthorne

This is a run through the San Bernardino Mountains, Oak Glen Apple Festival and the Palms to Pines Highway foliage and the Cleveland Forest.  Oak Glen is famous for their apples and Apple Festival.  It is high up in the San Bernardino Mtns with a nice drive.  Click here for info on Oak Glen (http://www.oakglen.net/)

This will be a good day's event.  Some excellent roads and spectacular scenery, etc.  I imagine the weather would also be perfect and the days not to short to allow everyone time to return home.  I think the Apple Festival in Oak Glen  and the foliage along the "Pines to Palms Hwy" are well worth a Mini event.

Art,

We need a representative Viper as the official "Pumpkin" so Dave feels he is celebrating the season and paying hommage to Charlie Brown's memory.  And well, you see.............  your viper just happens to be the correct color pattern and we were wondering if....,  maybe....,  perhaps....., we can give you the "Charlie Brown Official Pace Car Title" for the run ?

<2

You can even have an autographed picture of you, your car, and the Great One for your memory mantle above the fireplace.   <9

Potential rumor floating around that we may try to hook up with the Orange County Shelby Cobra Club on this run, which would make a most enjoyable day.

Does anyone know when the time changes >1

Not sure if it's the 1st weekend or 2nd weekend in Nov ??? That will make a BIG different on how this will work.

Probably won't be able to do the Oak Glen part due to time  <2 This is going to be a very long day, BUT  whata run, I've done this run, other than the lower portion of the 243, but running the 74,76,79,& 371 backwards allows our Vipers  work better. Coming up the 243 is like running Willow at speed ^1 >2

If you miss this run, your loss :(

I'll have some details shortly <2

Actually, I was referring to car color.

But when it comes to having a pumpkin shaped ______ not sure who'd win that one.

Not sure if we have any XXL T-shirts left ..... have to check with the boss lady.

Big Brakes Dave and I are working on modifications to this run to accommodate the time of year, locations for meals and parking and liesurely time at each stop.  I think once Dave has the final recomendations, details will be forth coming.  Dave has done the run and made some changes already, said it was spectacular and great fun.  Final restaurant locations and route will be posted soon.

I would think that this run is one not to miss!  We have a commitment from Art to officially name his car the "Great Pumpkin Viper of the Day".

Okay, VIPER FANS

Here are the offical meeting points for the UpComing Great Pumpkin Rally

If you want to meet for Breakfast we will congregate at no later than 7:30 AM, to have breakfast at 8:00 AM on November 10th, 2007.  This will be easy access for SD Viper Owners, and those of us who don't mind driving vipers a distance.

Richie's All American Diner
40651 Murrieta Hot Springs Rd
Murrieta, CA 92562

see below map,

We will then leave to meet other members who are coming from the north or from the north west at the

Denny's Diner
449 E 4th, Street
Beaumont, Ca

Denny's Location map is two posts above. If you are planning on breakfast at the Denny's DIner, pleas arrive and finish breakfast by 9:30, so we can get started on the cruise by 10:00 AM.  The Denny's is off the I-10, just east of the convergance with the I-60 and take the Hwy 79 exit.  It is across from the exit stop sign.  We can also fuel up there.

We will plan on meeting at 9:30 AM to leave by 10:00 AM

I will bring the Official Charlie Brown Pumpkin, to be christened and place in Art Pena's super hot orange SRT-10 convertible!

^1 >2

Is there gonna be a debut of the Original Root, Blue Viper with all the added upgrades?

^1 We'll be there 'cause we don't wanna be square!  BTW, as my hot rod hubby pointed out, all that beautiful folage will just be a blur of colors as we race through those curves at 80mph,  <3 but hey!, that's o.k., it will be fun <9

Original route has changed after consultation with the Oh Great Pumpkin-One.  We are eliminating the Flo's Diner - Oak Glen part of the cruise as this may delay us for the entire cruise and we don't want to be ending up east of Temecula in the dark.  So the following changes have been made.

1.  No meeting at Flo's Diner
2.  Visiting Oak Glen is cancelled.
3.  Meeting at Richie's Diner in Murrietta at 7:30 (I-15 & I-215) for breakfast or meeting at the Denny's Restaurant in Beaumont at 9:30 AM November 10th.
4.  Continue out of Beaumont on the I-10 East to the 243 Exit South.  Re-group from the Freeway run and then head up the Pines to Palms Highway toward Idyllwild for lunch and shopping.
5.  Post lunch cruise south out of Idyllwild through the Cleveland National Forest to 74 > 371 > Cahuilla Creek Casino for pit stop and club photoshoot.
6.Cruise into Pechanga Casino in Temecula for dinner.

Oh Great Pumkin-One, did I get this correct?

Time changes with an hour less of daylight has moved us to delete Oak Glen and Flo's as stops
.

I just got off the phone with Dave C..   Due to the widespread devastation caused by the wildfires and the MANY members it has affected, the Great Pumkin Run for Nov. 10th has been CANCELLED

This run will take place at a later date.

Many members have been evacuated and are still unsure of the status of their homes/property.   We can only hope and pray that the fires are contained quickly.
