Hi All
Helping out a fellow Viper owner out with a post for parts.  Ship from Auburn Hills, MI

"Hi Glenn,

Thanks for the response -- and appreciate the courtesy -- here is the information.  First, it is on eBay -- just search "Viper Fascia" and it'll come up.

I am the original owner on this Viper front fascia assembly (2 bumper energy absorbers, bumper beam, front fascia, fog lamps, lenses, side markers, and assorted fasteners) -- I was working for Textron Automotive back in the day and my boss was able to obtain a set for himself and me.

It's from the plant that, at the time, produced these for Chrysler -- Gen 2 Viper -- these parts have never been on a vehicle or seen the road, and everything has been kept in climate controlled inside the house.

Pics are attached -- so I'm looking to sell these as one complete set (I have a box that will fit the fascia and a smaller box for the beam/energy absorbers.  I'm not sure what the market price would bear on this assembly, but I figure it is quite the find for someone who needs factory parts, and never been on a vehicle.

Thanks again for your help!
Jason P."

National Viper Event 3  -  Las Vegas
May 2 - 5 2018

The Viper Owners Association has pulled out all the stops for this event !  Las Vegas has so much to offer and we are being treated to the best of everything. Our home base for NVE3 is the Delano which is located on the south end of the strip! The address is 3940 S Las Vegas Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89119 and phone is (702) 632-7888.
The Delano is one of the premier 5-star hotels on the Las Vegas strip; it will serve as our host for this wonderful event.

Caravan:
Our plan is to head out on Wednesday May 2nd for Las Vegas.  Our first meet point will be at the  Chevron Station 12659 E Foothill Blvd, Rancho Cucamonga,  CA  91739      We will be departing the Chevron station at 9:30am.

We will head up the 15 to Barstow where we will stop for a quick bite to eat at Peggy Sue's Diner located at 35654 Yermo Rd, Yermo  CA

Peggy Sues has us set up for a 11:00am reservation.  We will beat the lunch crowd and there should be plenty of parking. They will be staffed to handle our large group.  There are a few gas stations located very close to Peggy Sue's, so please fill up before parking for lunch.

We should be arriving at the host hotel around 2:00.

For those wishing to meet up with others in your local area, please post up on this thread so that others in your area will know where to meet.

Event Schedule:

Wednesday evening - Reception dinner at the Mandalay Beach   6:00pm - 10:00 pm

Thursday - We have been assigned an early departure time starting anywhere from 7:30am to 8:45am.  It is important for us to leave at our assigned times as this is designed to help alleviate parking issues at Wayne Newton's Estate.   We are lucky to have the early start time, as parking will be a bit easier and we will have plenty of time to tour through Casa De Shenandoah before lunch in the main promenade.   Thursday afternoon and evening is left open for us to do as we please.

We have set up a very special event just for our Club.  Mike Buckingham has made arrangements with his good friend John Grant, who owns Desert 215 Superstore.  John has graciously invited our entire Club to his dealership where we will put all our Vipers on display.  John will be catering in food and drinks for us to enjoy.  To show our appreciation for his hospitality, and after learning about a charity that he is closely associated with, we will be making a small donation to Opportunity Village.  The cost to attend this will be $30.00/person and all proceeds will be presented to Opportunity Village.
We are limited to 80 people, so this will be limited to the first 80 people who register and pay via the PayPal link - http://socalviper.com/events/2018-national-viper-event-iii

Plan on arriving at Desert 215 Superstore at 6:00pm.  This will leave you plenty of time to get back to the hotel to take in a show, gamble or whatever else you would like to do.

Friday - We will spend the day at the awesome Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  Please be sure to take the time now to have your car prepped and checked before we head to Las Vegas.  Dan Cragin at Specialty Performance Team is a great place to have your car checked out. Call him to make an appointment  626-588-2882.  Do not wait to get this done, just in case your car needs to have work done on it.

Gary and Melissa Belvedere has set up a really cool tour at the Neon Graveyard.  We booked 3 tours:  8:00 pm, 8:20 pm and 8:40pm.  Each tour is one hour long and can accommodate 20 people.  The cost is $25.00/person.    We only have 60 spots available and is first come, first served to those that register and pay through the PayPal link:   - http://socalviper.com/events/2018-national-viper-event-iii

Saturday - This is our day to tour Hoover Dam.  We have been assigned specific departure times and it is important for us to follow these in an effort to make sure that everything flows smoothly once we arrive there to park and take the tour.

Saturday evening from 6:30 to 11:00 is our Grand Finale Banquet in the Islander Room

Sunday - check out and departure at your leisure.

ACR model returns as ultimate street-legal racer
The Dodge Viper ACR returns in 2017 as the indisputable "ultimate street-legal race car" with significant aerodynamic and suspension upgrades. Relaunched in 2016, the third edition (1999-2002, 2008-2010) of the Viper ACR has taken the performance car world by storm with more track records than any production car in the world — a total of 13 road course lap records as certified by the Sports Car Club of America.

About Viper
All 2017 Dodge Vipers are powered by the iconic all-aluminum 8.4-liter V-10 engine that delivers 645 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque — the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports car engine in the world.  Standard safety features include electronic multistage stability control, traction control and a new four-channel anti-lock brake system.

Since 1992, Dodge and SRT have built approximately 30,000 Vipers at the Mack Avenue Assembly (1992–1994) and Conner Avenue Assembly Plant (1995–current), both in Detroit.

"Need Gen V help in the Long Beach area.
Hi guys,

I am looking for a Gen V owner in the Long Beach area that might be able to help me with a seat fitment on a new product for ViperExchange. We are finalizing our new carbon gen V seat with Technocraft and prior to shipping one to Texas I was hoping someone local to them could do a quick test fit (4 bolts and seat comes out) to verify fitment.

I would be happy to offer $100 off any of our performance products from ViperExchange in exchange for your time.

Please email me [email protected]

Thanks!"

In Memoriam

Michael William von Quilich 1947-2016

Sadly I must report the passing of one of our long-time Friends and Club Member, Michael Von Quilich. A well-respected member of the Viper Community who lived in Pahrump with his beautiful wife, Virginia, Michael was a generous and spirited part of our Club. Michael's racing career was impressive as he and his MeNo Race team won the SCCA Majors Western Conference Championship in 2013 and the NASA National Championship the same year with races at tracks in Seattle, Portland, California and Utah.

Michael and Virginia were always a winning team in racing and in life, traveling the country for Viper events and races. You never saw one without the other at Club Spring Mountain events. A master of the pit stop, Virginia timed all of Michael's laps and did the tire pressures when he stopped for tire checks and their devotion to one another was an inspiration.

Our Club was very fortunate to be invited to the von Quilich's residence for many Club racing parties.  Michael was truly a man of dignity and respect always ready to help out.

There will be a deep void around our Club without Michael and our hearts go out to his family in their time of sorrow. Michael, you will be missed by your fellow Club members and friends in the racing community and beyond.

"Hi everyone, we have some changes that I'd like to make everyone aware of.

As we all know, any volunteer position is tough, especially leadership roles. They aren't only positions requiring the burden of great responsibility, but the day-to-day can also be taxing. It's with sadness that I have to communicate that Brian Kennedy has requested to resign as President of the club. He's been a friend and good contributor to the group. Club leadership most certainly comes at an expense particularly to our personal lives, all of our regional/national roles require some serious sacrifices. In Brian's case – three kids, a wife, and a business that has recently sparked (for very good/positive reasons) some significant new demands on him – left him in a bad spot with time. I can attest to the volume of emails alone that cross our mailboxes on a daily level – it's not easy (and you often have to react quickly). It was a tough decision for him to make. His spirit and willingness to have taken on a demanding and public facing role was a reflection of his character. This was a tough email to write for both of us but wanted you to know immediately. I want to thank him for the work he's done.

As VP, I'm charged with assuming the role in the interim until we all decide on a solution. I will need your help and support, as I myself am challenged with an additional burden at a tough time and don't want the club to suffer (nor would I ever let it!). I do have a plan, some suggestions, and comfort – as there are several paths forward. With that said... I have convened a swift meeting with our board tonight (comprised of all regional presidents and national officers). We've met and agreed on the next steps and moved to put them in place. Among other peripheral actions, two decisions were made regarding the current open national office position:

·         The board has requested that I vacate the VP role and step in as President for the remainder of term. As much as I intended retiring after a very long history of club service, I have agreed to fulfill the term as National President. I was voted in this evening and am now the acting President for the national office.

·         It was also decided that we would then fill the VP role as the open position. It made more sense to use this role as the vacancy as it offers many more options for interested parties who could more quickly assume the responsibility.

We sensed that we'd likely move quickly on a plan, and to my dismay - we sure did! On a serious note, I am indeed pleased to be your new club president. I have a long history with this and other car clubs. I've owned a Viper for well over 20 years and I've been a member of the club almost since the initial one began. I've served in many supporting capacities, however my more significant leadership roles include Midwest Zone Director (6 years), IL region president (8 years), and I'm also the cofounder of the VOA (along with Maurice Liang). Those who know me understand the spirit that I have when it comes to club culture and quality. And while I will admit that I've now lost a longstanding bet with my IL Region alma mater (to whom I repeatedly denied that I never planned on pursuing the national presidency), I will say in my defense - technically I didn't "pursue" this... so the jury is still out! But I'm honored to answer the call when it was needed. I'll close my introduction by also stating that I enjoy levity when I work and that I value good relationships, it needs to be a part of everything we do. I've committed to this deeply (as I do with everything), with the blessing of my wife Kristina, I plan to contribute in the unique ways that I know how! I look forward to it.

I'll communicate next steps on filling the vacated VP role. If you're interested in pursuing the position of National Vice President, feel free to reach out to me. I'll be glad to discuss with you and would be happy to mentor someone on the national office.

If you have any questions, always feel free to ping me. But be kind, as there's probably going to be 2000 emails in my mailbox after this! I look forward to continuing the legacy of a Viper club that is: the largest, the most active, and the most privileged group on the planet. I'll see you out there!"

Vipers, Vineyards and Vistas
September 16-18, 2016
A VOA Club Member's Event

"Vipers, Vineyards & Vistas" is the collaboration between the Northern, Central and Southern California Regions of Viper Owners Association as a way for our regions to spend time together in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Due to limited space constraints, this event is limited to a maximum of 78 people, or 26 guests per region.  If a region fills their allotted spaces, additional interested attendees from that region must wait until August 19th when any remaining slots from all three regions will be "put up for grabs" in an open registration.

FRIDAY:  Each region will drive to San Simeon, CA.  This coast town is located on Hwy 1 approximately halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles.  Hotel accommodations (reduced room block prices) are arranged at the Best Western Cavalier Oceanfront Resort.

This unassuming oceanfront hotel is less than 5 miles south of Hearst Castle.  Casual rooms feature free Wi-Fi, TVs with cable channels, coffeemakers, and mini fridges.  Some rooms have fireplaces, and most rooms have patios or balconies.  There's a restaurant, a fitness center, a heated outdoor pool with ocean views and a hot tub.  We have a block of King Ocean View Rooms that sit approximately 100 yards back from the water with a panoramic view of the coastline. These rooms are offered at the reduced rate of $235.00 per night.

All rates are subject to a 12% occupancy tax.  Check in is 4:00 pm., Check out 12:00 noon.

PLEASE NOTE:  The room block code will be sent to you after you register.  The hotel will release any unclaimed rooms from our block back into general inventory on August 30th.  After this date, the hotel will continue to accept reservations at the rates quoted above based upon availability.

Due to the varied arrival times on Friday, everyone is free to do as they wish.  You may want to explore the quaint seaside village of Cambria, full of bistros, art galleries and specialty shops.  There are several restaurants close to the hotel but please be aware that most restaurants in the area, including the one at the hotel, close (stop serving) at 9:00 p.m.

SATURDAY:  We'll caravan about one hour through rolling hills to JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery located in the Paso Robles Wine Country.  We'll sample their wines paired with local cheeses.  Our group will be in the private tasting room below The Chateau, an 11,000 sq. ft. mansion tucked atop a hill surrounded by vineyards.

Next we'll take a leisurely half-hour cruise to Vina Robles Vineyards & Winery where we'll sample their wines and enjoy a buffet lunch of sandwiches, salads & desert in one of their spacious outdoor patios.

Following lunch, you're free to spend the afternoon as you please.  There are more than 200 wineries in the area to visit, as well as Firestone Walker Brewing Company for those of you who enjoy brew houses.  Or you may want to head back and chill out at the beach.

We will meet back up Saturday evening at 6:00 in the Butte Banquet Room at the hotel for dinner.

SUNDAY:  You're free to spend the day as you choose.  Consider checking out Hearst Castle - "A Museum Like No Other".

The cost for this event will be $150.00 per person.

Remember, this event is limited to a maximum of 78 people, or 26 guests per region.  Please register soon to secure a space at this fun-filled, multi-regional event!  Keep in mind, once a region fills their allotted spaces, additional attendees from that region must wait until August 19th when any remaining slots from other regions are opened up.

Maintenance, Parts and Technical / Bag those Tires
January 12, 2016, 09:14:00 AM
This Article first appeared in the September 2015 Edition of Sports Car Magazine

"Few things get better with age, tires especially. In fact, from the moment a tire is produced, it has begun aging. That's not to say you have to get a tire fresh from the mold to see the best level of performance, but there are steps you can take to maximize a tire's life.

"There is a difference between race tires and street tires," explains Tim Gilvin of Hoosier Tires. "Race tires do not have a lot of preservatives in them – it's pretty much all natural rubber products all the way through it. From the day it's made, the clock starts ticking."

Manufacturers like Hoosier Tires go to great lengths to preserve tires as they are produced. "When we store them in our warehouse, everything is climate controlled," says Gilvin. "It's pretty much around 65-70 degrees F year-round."

From the moment you receive a shipment of new tires, there are steps you can take to ensure they will be at their best when you need them. "They can get too hot, and they can get too cold," says Gilvin, noting that Hoosier recommends storing tires between 40 and 90 degrees F at home. "A tire can freeze; that, by itself, is not an issue, but the way it's handled is. If it's roughed up or if you drop it, [a frozen tire] can crack. If it freezes in your garage and it's allowed to slowly come back up to temperature, it will be fine."

Another protective measure is bagging new tires in something as simple as garbage bags. "Its not a bad habit to be in," says Gilvin. "The dark bags help shield from the UV."

Apart from bagging them, you also want to keep the tires in a warm, dry, and dark place. "When properly stored [stable ambient at room temperature, no direct UV exposure, and no ozone exposure – meaning away from items like generators] new tires age very slowly," says Woody Rogers, Product Information Specialist at the Tire Rack, who also explains that "all racers want tires that were made yesterday, but production date seems to have little effect in the first few years."

A used tire, however, does not have as much resilience as a new one. "Once you use a tire and put it through its first heat cycles, the clock really starts to tick," says Rogers. "Those R-compound tires you run at the Solo Nationals or Runoffs and then put in the corner of the garage over the winter will not perform at the same level next spring. Anecdotally, 200-tread wear and other true street tires seem to evolve much less over winter storage."

While there's only so much you can do to minimize the aging of your tires, the things you can do are simple and easy, and will help protect your investment. So, after this year's championship events, toss those competition tires in bags and stack them neatly in your living room. Well, maybe not that last part."

SoCal Viper ~ Ford GT Club
Run to Mammoth Lakes

Date has been changed.  To be announced later

Thanks again to Club member Eric Johnson "Doc" for arranging the event. This year we have invited the Ford GT Club to join us. This will make it difficult for some because we have a fair amount of Club members that own Vipers and Ford GTs. Wish I had that dilemma 8)
