We have several "head sock" things that we picked up for a buck a piece at a medical supply store.... those blue hair net things you see doctors wearing in surgery.  I can send them with Lisa & Dave (we won't be at the AutoX) if you want.  That's what the Corvette Club used a couple years ago when we were there and borrowed their helmets.  Once again, we have 2 helmets someone can borrow.  Only been used about 3 times now.  Anyone looking to buy one at a LOW price, let us know.  Paul & Pam Winters

For those of you who are either new to owning a Viper or have not had an opportunity to drive an AutoX, please sign up and enjoy the day there!  The AutoX is something you can just compete with your own times.  It is an invaluable opportunity to push your Viper to your own limits and learn more about handling it in an environment that is safe.  You don't have to have any previous experience with the race track or drags.  The biggest challenge for many drivers is simply keeping the pattern of the cones in your mind and not going out of bounds.  (you're going to see plenty of that)  Driving an AutoX is one of the most exciting and enjoyable events our club participates in.  The course is short and twisty so you won't be doing a high speed.

If you need to borrow a helmet (they are required) let me know as we have a man's medium size and a small available.  They will have some helmets at the course you can borrow, but will have to be shared and taken off & put on with each run due to limited amount available.   Pam

Upcoming Events of Interest / Re: RICHARD'S SPRING RUN
February 28, 2012, 01:32:07 PM
 <
OK VIPER GUYS!  It's planned.  See the post with the changes, please, but this recaps it:
930AM at the Shell Station at Temescal Canyon Rd, leaving on the run from there at 10am.  We should arrive about 11:30 at the Rainbow Oaks Restaurant, which is about 10 miles or less south of Temecula right off the I-15 for easy access to head home.  These runs through the hills in this area are always fun and Richard does a great job planning the route.
The food at the Rainbow Oaks Restaurant comes in HUGE portions so plan to be fed well with good food.   See ya at the run!  Pam

Many thanks to Lyle for setting up this great afternoon/evening of drag racing for the Vipers.  It was a great way to get some of us who aren't familiar with the track or drags a little taste of what kind of fun is available with the Vipers.

Another news-flash:  The Corvette Club will have a few extra helmets that can be loaned out, but HELMETS ARE REQUIRED, so please bring your own if you have one.  I have about a half dozen of those helmet liner things you can have to wear if you have to borrow a helmet and will have them on hand at the Drags and at the AutoX.

OK, Viper Guys, you have just been presented with a challenge from the Palm Springs Corvette Club!
Shawn Hyman (Autocross Chairman for the Corvette Club) just emailed me to say, and I quote:  "Wait until you see the traveling trophy we have made.  By the way... I made it a traveling trophy because I don't expect it to travel far!!!"
>4
Also, they are now doing a combined charity function with ALS and the Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City, with the proceeds from both of the events being split 50/50 with them.

Now, we don't want that trophy to stay in the Palm Springs Corvette possession, do we???  ^8

I picked up a few of those medical hair covers (those blue throw-away head covers) so anyone who needs to borrow a helmet can use one of those before putting the helmet on. <1  See you there!  And come on, guys, try to come to this!  It will be fun.  And Lyle said that there's plenty of good food vendors there. Paul & I are new to this sort of thing, so having such good instruction available for beginners is fantastic.

It's time to start getting these room reservations made!  They're going to go fast, and we don't have a large block of rooms available.  Be sure to tell them you are with the SoCal Viper Club for the discounted rate of $149/night.  Anthony and Lance deserve lots of THANKS for setting up this event!  This whole weekend is really going to be fun and well planned by them.

Big thank you to Dave for putting this event on for us!  This was probably the most awesome brunch spread of food we've ever seen, and it all tasted wayyyyy too good.  The hawk show was incredible.  I wish I could go see that every week.  I don't know where I've seen better ocean views and scenery anywhere on the western coast.  It's such a beautiful place to visit.  So relaxing and gorgeous.  And thanks, Lance, for having such a great event for the Club.  Pam

Lyle from DC Performance just called and reminded me that I should let you all know that he would like to see us there about 3:30 Thursday afternoon... that's this COMING THURSDAY!!!  Wow, time creeps up on us.  We'll start our official tour of the strip, where they'll walk us down and show us where we should start shutting down, at 4PM.  The first cars start at the track at 5PM.  Lyle will bring a couple helmets to loan for those who don't own them, and Paul & I will loan ours, also, so we should be able to keep everyone who wants to drive out there on the track.  If any others of you have a loaner helmet, please contact me, Lyle or Lance!
For those of you who have never done this before, this will be a hands-on, personal assisted training experience to teach you how to take off and run the 1/8 mile.  You don't have to worry about being the fastest; just learn to do it and have fun so you are prepared to run the drags at the VOI's and other events such as Car Control Clinics (where you will learn more).  For those who know what you're doing, it's an excellent opportunity to refresh your skills.  And for $20 to run as many times as you want, how can you beat that?
Paul Winters has a helmet he has used only a couple times that he is willing to sell at a reasonable price.   Let me know if interested.  Pam

Lyle will meet with the guys at the drag strip and will let us know what all will be required.  We do know helmets will be, and for those of you who do not own one, we should have enough there that they can be shared.  I'll pick up some of the head socks so we'll have some if you have to borrow a helmet.  He said that the drag strip is very excited about our group coming out for this and are going all out for us!  They will walk us down the strip if we are there by 4PM, and will even bring us inside the tower so we can see how it works.  It will be a training and practice experience, so each Viper driver will be given personal instructions on how to properly launch your Viper at the lights.  Please check back here and on the original post for further info when Lyle gets it the end of the week.  Lyle is very fired up about this and excited about giving some of the Viper drivers this great opportunity to learn and have fun, so let's support this effort so we can do it again!

I know, I know, it's not easy to get up early on a Sunday morning and get going without an adequate supply of coffee in your veins; but for those of you who want to run together and meet up with Lance's group so we can all take the scenic drive to Terranea... and to that MOST EXCELLENT BRUNCH, we are setting up a meet point at the Rest Stop that's about 5 miles North of Oceanside.  You need to be there by or BEFORE 7:30 as we'll pull out at 7:35AM and head to Lance's primary meet point so we don't miss his group.  It will all be worth it, I promise!  Set your alarms and the automatic coffee makers so you can join in the fun!

Things come up and plans can't always be followed; the Winters will be at the Terranea run & brunch but can't go overnight after all.  And, the Chrismans and Palkovick's have also had other interruptions to their schedule during this weekend and can't make the over-nighter.

For those of you who would like to share a unit with someone, please post your intentions and see if someone else is looking to share a 2 or 3 bedroom casita.
