Come enjoy a day at the races at the beautiful Santa Anita Park. Our Vipers will be parked in the infield to be seen and enjoyed by all of the spectators. Some photos of the winning horses will be staged with the Vipers showcased as their background! Exciting horses, exciting cars... what more could we ask for? (good weather, is all!)The cost is reasonable: $30 per person, which includes the ticket to get into the races, admission program, the exclusive parking, and a 2 hour long "Great American Barbeque" buffet with an extensive menu: Beef Brisket, Hawaiian Chicken, Jumbo Hot Dogs, vegetables, an assortment of salads, dinner rolls and cornbread, not to mention the sodas & bottled water, and cookies & brownies. And who knows? You might just have a good day betting on the ponies!
The Park would like us to arrive at
10:30 am so we can be parked and settled before the day of races is well underway. WE WILL ALL MEET AT THE
SANTA ANITA FASHION PARK MALL at 10:00AM by the
DAVE & BUSTERS and will depart for the races at 10:15AM. Please don't be late as we need to arrive as a group!
The Santa Anita Racetrack is located 14 mi. N.E. of downtown Los Angeles. please send your check for $30 per person payable to SoCal Viper Club to Treasurer at 35234 Quartz St., Yucaipa, CA 92399.
For anyone in the OC that wants to cruise up to Santa Anita together, I'll be at Spaghettini's off the 405 fwy and Seal Beach Blvd at 8:45 and will leave shortly after 9:00. San Diego area group: We will meet at 7:30AM at the Park & Ride on I-15 and hwy 76 and leaving at 7:45 AM sharp! Timing is critical on this and we can't wait for anyone. It is about an hour & 45 min to 2 hour drive.
I spoke with the organizers at Santa Anita today and got some clarification on our event Saturday.
It is important that we all meet on time at the Santa Anita Fashion Park Mall at 10:00 am.
Each Family/car will be given a gate pass and park admittance ticket. These will be distributed at Santa Anita Fashion Park Mall !!! If you do not have one of these tickets, you will not be allowed to enter the Infield parking area.
We will be led into the infield PRIOR to the General Public being allowed into the park. If you want to park in the infield with your Viper, you HAVE to enter in with the group. Once the group has been led into the infield, the tunnel will be closed. If you arrive late, you will have to park in the general parking lot outside.
Family vehicles will not be allowed inside the infield either. If you are driving a Family car, you will still meet the the SoCal Vipers group at Fashion Mall where we will distribute the Parking/Admission tickets. Family cars will use the parking ticket to park for free in the outer lot. Vipers will be escorted through the tunnel into the infield.
Our Vipers will not be allowed to exit the infield until shortly after the last horse race is run, which is around 4:45. If you plan on leaving early, please park in the outer lot.Lance

Pick up the racing form at the track and study the prior outings for each horse in a given race. Pay attention to the speed ratings. Also check the prior workouts, but take them with a grain of salt.

Some of you in this "San Diego" area have asked when/where we'll meet to drive to the Races together. Seems like our best route is going to be right up I-15 so the usual Park N Ride (76 & I-15) will work for most; those who live a little North of that, let us know where you'll be waiting to join us. I'll talk with the group here to see how long they think it will take us to get to the meeting spot and we'll set a time, so check back to the posts in this event for final info. Pam
I did a site visit this morning.
We will drive through a tunnel which does have a bit of a "dip at the bottom, but it is pretty gradual (like going up a standard driveway) and should not pose any major issues for the majority of our Vipers. If your Viper is lowered, I still think you will clear but may have to approach it at a slight angle.
It is a beautiful place and we will have our own private area to park our cars ( very flat grassy area) adjacent to the area where we will be enjoying our lunch.
Weather looks like it will very nice for the 12th !

Please add Michael & Melanie to the list. I put the check in the mail today. Thanks!

Please add Rolf (Mamba48) to the list. The check is in the mail.
Hey Cuz Mike and Rolf,
Glad you guys are coming !
It's a really nice venue and will be a lot of fun.
Now I just gotta learn how to bet on the ponies.....or better yet, I'll leave that up to Lori =28
when I saw that peolpe drive 275 miles to hang out with the So Cal Viper Club, I thought I should be able to drive the 3 (three) miles from my house to Santa Anita Racetrack.
My oil will not even be up to temperature by the time I get to D&B.

For anyone in the OC that wants to cruise up to Santa Anita together, I'll be at Spaghettini's off the 405 fwy and Seal Beach Blvd at 8:15 and will leave shortly after 8:30.
We'll take the 605 north to the 210 west and exit at Baldwin. The Fashion Park Mall is a couple miles south of the 210 on Baldwin.
It is important that we all meet on time at the Santa Anita Fashion Park Mall at 9:30 am.
Each Family/car will be given a gate pass and park admittance ticket. These will be distributed at Santa Anita Fashion Park Mall !!! If you do not have one of these tickets, you will not be allowed to enter the Infield parking area. The Race track will open the gate for us at 10:00 sharp so that we can get our cars into the infield.
SAN DIEGO AREA GROUP: WE WILL MEET AT 7:15AM AT THE PARK & RIDE ON I-15 AND HWY 76. AT 7:30AM WE'LL LEAVE! TIMING IS CRITICAL ON THIS AND WE WON''T BE WAITING FOR ANYONE. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU PRINT THE DIRECTIONS TO THE FASHION MALL (see the post and click the link) IN CASE YOU GET BEHIND FOR SOME UNFORESEEN REASON!!! WE WILL BE HANDING OUT TICKETS (see Lance's post) AT THE MEETING POINT OF DAVE & BUSTERS RESTAURANT IN THE SANTA ANITA FASHION MALL. WITHOUT A TICKET, YOU DON'T GET TO COME IN. YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR YOUR OWN PARKING AND PARK IN THE GENERAL PARKING LOT WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHER CARS IF YOU MISS THE GROUP. >5

Just pick the ones with cool sounding names >v
***** I just received an email from Santa Anita that our entrance time to the park has been delayed by 30 minutes. We need to be at their gate at 10:30 am.
We will now meet at the Fashion Mall as planned at 10:00 instead of 9:30.
This will give us a bit more time in the morning to get there.
Meet point times from outer areas will slide by 30 minutes as well.

Sooooo, does this mean that we humans are not allowed to exit the infield as well, or is there a tunnel/bridge that we can use to access the outer facilities?
=5 >m =5 >m
Hey Glenn,
I was there for a company picnic once and yes there is a tunnel that you can use to access the outer facilities and that's why I think they don't want the Vipers to be moved once they are in place.
They want us to bet... and have provided us with some info, etc., regarding that which we received with the tickets. So there "must" be a way to easily access the betting area (and restrooms!) See the post as we've just now (3PM Thursday) made final changes. The buffet will be served between 12-2pm. The first Race is at 12:30. I think you're pretty much free to roam at will once in and parked. It's just that the cars can't be firing up & moving while the horses are on the track.
Thanks, Art & Pam!
Look forward to seeing you both on Sat.
Steph <9
Ok, so if everyone shows up we will have a total of approx. 22,800 horses. (38 V's) Are they all gonna fit? >l >m =5
800 of those are mine. I know, I know.... >4
<B One last change in the San Diego bunch leaving. >1
Due to not knowing what traffic we might get into, a couple of you have told me that we'd better leave the Park N Ride at 7:45 so be there before that and ready to pull out at 7:45. I'm sure there's a Starbucks or something in case we get there early and can keep ourselves well entertained until time to head over to the track. Now, who's gonna teach me how to win some $$ on those ponies? =28
You'll be in good hands Pam <L
Because of a previous committment we're gonna have to get out of Dodge early (about 3 - 3:30). That being the case, I guess we have to park in the regular lot. Will it be open or opened when we get there or do we have to wait for the lot to open at ?? o'clock. In addition, will there be anyone else parking in the regular lot so my Viper doesn't get lonely? =5
Hey Darryl,
You will still meet with us at 10:00 at Fashion Mall to get your admittance/parking tickets.
We'll all pull into the outer lot together at 10:30.
Those in family cars and Vipers which need to leave early will park in the outer lot. There is an access gate right there that will lead us to the tunnel to the infield. Those in Vipers will drive through the tunnel, everyone else will walk through the tunnel.
For anyone who is up early and wants to go to a car show....Michael Greenberg will be at the Flintridge Mall at 6:30am 1919 Verdugo Blvd, La Canada Fltrdg, CA Behind the movie theater on the north side of the road.
There are about 150 + cars on Sat morning and from there it is a short drive over to Santa Anita.
My wife and I are going to join you guys and gals on this event. We did not have time to sign up in advance, so we will get our own parking, tickets, lunch, etc. We will probably leave in the early afternoon so must have parking that permits this.
Lance, my neighbor, we will follow you to Spagattinis if you let us know what time. Perhaps we can move it back 30 minutes since the ponies are letting us in 30 minutes later?
See you tomorrow!
Crystal blue skies, 80 degree weather, 61 people and 30 Vipers..... >r
You could not have asked for a more perfect day to enjoy a Day at the Races !
A huge THANK YOU to Pam for setting this event up with Santa Anita and Nino for keeping track of all the paid members. A special mention to Hemotox...Eric Johnson for putting this event on the table. What a great idea and incredible venue.
