I need to get my viper into Dan Cragin in the very near future.
We all know the routine....2 cars up, drop off one, one car back, 2 cars home.

Since my wife won't drive to LA, I'm trying to be creative.

So my thought is that if someone has their car there and needs a ride up to pick it up, I'll take you, if you bring me home.  With some planning, hopefully someone else will be heading up to drop off their car about the time mine is done and I can catch a ride up and bring them back home......etc   etc

Anyone ?????

I decided to do the oil pan baffle upgrade in preparation for more track events.

The oil pan baffle prevents engine oil starvation by keeping the oil in the center of the pan where the oil pickup is.

Without the swinging baffle gates installed in the pan, the oil is free to flow from cavity to cavity and under some track conditions, the oil could be forced away from the oil pickup and cause severe engine failure.

This was a very easy engine upgrade which only took about 90 minutes to do.

Shown below is all that is needed:   10 quarts oil, Oil filter, Baffle kit.  I bought the Oil Pan Baffle kit from Dave C.  www.davesbigbrakes.com

I put the car up on my lift, but this can also be done with the car on jack stands.

I drained the oil from the pan and removed / replaced the oil filter.

Once the oil was all out, I removed the 11 mm bolts which hold the pan on (30 of them)

The pan came right off.  Be very careful not to damage the re-useable gasket.

There are 8 phillips screws holding in the sheet metal tray which need to be removed.

Once the tray is out, you can see the 3 sections of the pan, and the oil pickup screen.

The replacement tray is shown above, with the OEM tray below.

The swinging baffle gates allow the oil to flow, but helps to keep oil in the center section since the gates only swing inward.

It is very important to make sure that the gates swing freely.  The front gate was hitting the oil screen screws.

I filed the bottom corners of the gate back to clear the screws.

Once I was sure that the gate swung freely, I put the new tray in and screwed it down. Make sure that you put the tray in the right way.  Notice the small hole in the bottom right where the Dip Stick goes through.

I put a drop of Blue Loctite on each of the screws.

The oil pan is now ready to install.

I put a small amount of Permatex RTV silicon on the 4 corner seams to prevent any oil leaks.

Shown above is a close up of the seam that needs to be sealed.

I cleaned the gasket and installed the pan.

It was pretty cool seeing 3 of our local club members with their garages in the national Viper Magazine !   Congratulations and Nice work.

On another note,  California has 2,887 Vipers !!!  But only 557 are VCA members....What's up with that ??? :-\

The K-1 Speed event was Awesome!!    This was a SoCal VCA Member's only sponsored event and was worth every penny of our annual membership !

Dan and Cathy along with the staff at K-1 put on an incredibly organized event which was filled with some great racing, spectacular lunch, and more great memories with friends in the '07 year.

After the visit at Foose?s, we headed back to our house for Taco?s

A special Happy Birthday to new member Chuck and his wife, Susan

Richard and my Dad provided entertainment

I need to give a special thanks to my Dad for helping me out all day.  He set up chairs, picked up our food, cooked up some special appetizers and even managed to play a little music.
All in all, it made for a very enjoyable and memorable day for me and I hope all who attended had a good time as well.

A special Thanks to Dave aka Newport Viper  for taking the time to coordinate and set up the Meguiar's detail day.   <1

These are just a few of the pictures taken.  The rest are posted at http://www.kouchicentral.com/

Meguiar's has been making products since 1901 and is still a family owned and run business.

We learned about the many products that they make and how to properly apply them to get the show car results we all want.

Mike did a great job explaining and teaching us how to care for our paint and cars.

A viper that was in need of some work was chosen.

The results were amazing.

Same deal,  meet at 8:30 am,  Coogies breakfast at 9:00, followed by a run on Mulholland Dr.

Seems like there a lot of guys that miss the Sat time due to work, family obligations, etc...   So hopefully the change to Sunday this month brings out more Snakes.
