Miscellaneous Discussions / National VCA Officer Elections
September 10, 2012, 10:30:30 PM
With just a few more weeks before we head off to Charlotte N.C. for VOI-12, I wanted to put this on the table for our Club Members.

Just before VOI-12 officially kicks off, there will be a very important President's meeting on Thursday afternoon.
VCA Club business will be discussed and more importantly, we will be voting for the next National VCA Officers.

Regional Presidents and Board members will cast their vote based on their respective Region's desires, and what is determined to be in the best interest of the National Club as a whole.

To date, these are the only candidates that have stepped up for the 4 National positions:

VCA President candidates:
Janni Cone
Regional VCA Officer since 1999, most recently Southeast DAL.
High performance driving, autocross and road racing enthusiast.  Experienced with running an all-volunteer 501(c) (3).  Manages $550 M in corporate procurement contracts. Listens well and not afraid to challenge conventional wisdom.

Jim Bielenda
Brings almost 40 years of experience, in many different areas, that relate directly to running a car club and a business. I have been in car clubs since I was 16 years old, with experience in creating, running, improving and rescuing them. I have experienced just about all that can happen. I am currently employed at Chrysler and have worked in various departments for over 30 years. Being from Michigan, I have been a member of Motor City Viper Owners from its inception, over 18 years now and served as the longest running Zone Director in the VCA. I have held the positions of Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President of MCVO. I am currently the President and have been, on and off, for a total of 7 years. I have been on the board in some capacity, for the remaining 11. I was previously awarded the position of VCA club advisor due to my contacts within Chrysler and my experience with VCA from its beginnings.

VCA Vice President:
John Wojnar
13 years experience in VCA, past President of the Ohio Region, and most recently Midwest Zone Director.  Professional, corporate engineering background with Lockheed Martin.  Brings creative ideas and track passion, having raced/crewed Vipers at 17 tracks.

VCA Treasurer:
James Reytch
Proud member of the VCA since 1997.  Experience as Treasurer, VP and President of the Washington Region before becoming Western DAL & acting Zone Director for NW.  Professional corporate background with Motorola and JVC Kenwood.  Trustworthy and honest.

VCA Secretary:
Maurice Liang
Founding President of the VCA.  18 years as President of the Northern California Region. Professional, corporate marketing background with Hewlett-Packard as well as start-up experience.  Author of Viper Buyers Guide and Gen V Viper book.  Trusted and established relationships with SRT.  Brings wealth of Club history as well as fresh ideas.

If anyone has any comments or concerns regarding the prospective candidates, here is your chance to have a say so in how our Region will cast its vote.

Miscellaneous Discussions / NEW Club Shirts !!!!
August 30, 2012, 08:47:51 PM
For those going to VOI-12 and even those that are not, we are having Club shirts made up.
This is a very nice shirt which will be fully embroidered.

On the front, it will have the So Cal Club lettering on the right  and your name above the pocket on the left.  For those going to VOI-12 we will add this to the pocket.
Fangs and Sneaky Pete will cover each sleeve.

The back will have the Stryker logo and the SRT logo on the collar.

Ladies will not be left out.  They have a companion shirt which will be embroidered with the same logos.

Both the Mens and Ladies shirts seem to run a bit on the large side so order accordingly.
All logos will be in Red
The first order of shirts will go in on September 10th so that we can get our shirts before we leave to VOI-12

Cost will be $75.00 each

If you would like to order a shirt please email me [email protected] and indicate the following:

Mens  or  Ladies:

Size:

Name to be embroidered on the shirt:

VOI-12 logo:   Yes  or  No

Want to change the logo colors?  You can choose the logo colors for an additional $5.00

For anyone interested, a bunch of Vipers will be meeting up at Super Car Sunday in Woodland Hills around 9:00 am (arrive earlier if you want to check out all the cars there).  They will grab a quick bite to eat at the Corner Bakery and then head over to Galpin Ford.  Galpin is doing an all Shelby Car Show and doing a big deal to honor Carroll Shelby.  Sounds like a really cool event to check out.

Eric Johnson plotted an incredible drive for us to enjoy.  We will start out in Westlake Village and cruise up through Ventura, Ojai, then through the Los Padres National Forest and the Sespe Condor Reserve

Cerro Noroeste is a mountain located in Southern California's Kern County, a mile north of the Ventura County border. It is located a few miles southwest of the community of Pine Mountain Club, at an elevation of 8,280+ feet (2,524+ m). The mountain is located in the Los Padres National Forest. It is surrounded by the Chumash Wilderness to the south and west, though the peak itself is not actually within the wilderness (since it is approached by a paved, public-access roadway).
The name Cerro Noroeste means 'northwest mountain'. It was formerly known as Mount Abel in honor of former Kern County supervisor Stanley Abel.[5]
The summit can be reached by taking Cerro Noroeste Road, Forest Route 9N27. The road is closed every winter after the first or second snow. It usually is reopened in May though there can still be substantial snow from heavy winters. Located near the summit are Campo Alto campground[6] and a radio tower.

Sespe Condor Sanctuary is a 53,000-acre (210 km2) wildlife refuge in the Los Padres National Forest. The United States Forest Service established the sanctuary in 1947 for the California condor, which is an endangered species and the largest living bird in North America.[1] For visitors, the sanctuary has a public-access corridor near Dough Flat.[2]
On 14 January 1992, two captive-bred California condors and two Andean Condors were released into the Sespe Condor Sanctuary, overlooking the Sespe Creek, near Fillmore, California. This was done by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Hopper Mountain National Wildlife Refuge Complex, the lead office for the California Condor Recovery Program. These captive bred condors thrived in the wild and have begun to reproduce freely.[3][dead link]
Before the sanctuary was established, numerous condors were killed by power line collisions. In order to circumvent this mishap, the captive condors were treated with "mock power poles" through the power pole aversion program. These poles emitted mild shocks when landed upon. They quickly learned to avoid power poles, which has significantly reduced their mortality rate.

Barrett-Jackson Auctions  Orange County
June 23rd 2012

As many of you know, the #1 Generation 5 Viper will be in Orange County at the Barrett Jackson Auctions.  SRT is supporting the Austin Hatcher Foundation by donating all proceeds from the winning bid to this great Charity.

The So Cal Viper Club will be there to show our support of SRT and Barrett-Jackson .

DETAILS :
Barrett-Jackson and SRT have been working very hard to coordinate this event with our Region.  There will be a huge presence there from SRT including their transport and the entire SRT line of cars.  Barrett-Jackson has reserved the Car Corral for our So Cal Viper Club and the SRT Clubs!   This means that we will have special parking privileges inside the gates of the Auction which means we won't have to park out in the general parking. Our cars will be on display for everyone to see and this will be a great way for us owners to show our support for SRT.

We will meet at 8:15 am  at the Starbucks located at 2701 Harbor Blvd # D1 Costa Mesa, CA 92626.
At 8:45 we will leave as a group to the OC Fairgrounds and enter the Auctions through a special gate.
We need to arrive as a group and will be guided in by escorts.
Each car that parks in the Corral will be given a pass which admits 2 people into the Auctions.

There are a ton of cars, displays and things to do ALL day long.
The Gen V viper will roll across the block at 3:00.  We definitely want to be there when the Viper goes across the stage.
Once we arrive, we will not be allowed to leave till approximately 5:00.

At this point in time, I do not believe that we will be getting any passes ahead of time to pass out and only those entering their car into the Car Corral will be given special passes.  I will continue to work on getting at least a few extra passes so that family members can also get in.
It is very important that we show Barrett-Jackson AND SRT how much we support their efforts by participating in this very special event.

SAN DIEGO VIPER GROUP:  If you want to caravan on to the Starbucks where Lance will be, we will be waiting by or before 7AM at the REST STOP that is about 5 miles North of Oceanside off I-5 (same place we've met before).  We will leave the Rest Stop at 7:10AM. Please note time as we've made it earlier!

It is time to address our future !
I am very happy to announce that Nino and Art have agreed to stay on in their current positions. This will certainly help in the transition, since they have gained a ton of experience and efficiency in their respective positions  of Treasurer and Secretary.

Nominations for President and Vice President for the 2013-14 term are now open.
Over the past 2 1/2 years, we have worked very hard at making a seamless transition in Administration and the goal is to keep that going.  I am proposing that we fill both of the top 2 positions. We have not had a Vice President in many years.  If we fill that position going forward, it will make the transition from year to year much smoother and easier.

We have many very capable and qualified members in our Club that could easily step in and take over our Club.
The goal is to build a perpetual team so that no single person is not burdened with ALL the duties of the Club.  With the financial and membership duties in capable hands for another term, we can focus on getting 2 more Members involved to take on some of the other tasks.

With each new President, our Club gains a new facet of success.  The upcoming term will be a very exciting term, especially with the new Viper hitting the streets and a whole new influx of members.

You can submit your nomination via email  [email protected] or by posting here on this thread.

I got a call from Nick Cappellano (Tony and Sherrie's oldest son) this evening.
He purchased 2 VIP tickets for Sunday's Long Beach Grand Prix races  ($125.00 each)
He is looking for someone who would be willing to drive their Viper to the event and have him as a passenger.
There will be a bunch of exotic cars meeting in Calabasas on Sunday morning.  From there, they will cruise down to Long Beach where you will get to park in a special Exotic Car Corral.  Lot's of cool freebies and great seats.

Please contact Nick asap if this is something you would like to do with him.

Pomona Fairplex

This is always one of our favorite events.  This year we will be changing it up and moving it to the Pomona Fairplex to take advantage of a bit of history.
The Pomona Road Race course was home to many great legends like Carroll Shelby, Max Balchowsky, Bob Bondurant, and Richie Ginther from 1956 to 1963.

This is essentially a GIANT parking lot, but the Fairplex has preserved the historic road course outline with paving. We will take advantage of this and use a portion of the old track to set up our Auto-X.

We will also set up a second instructional station similar to what we have done in the past to simulate over and understeer conditions.  Bob Blizzard will once again come out to give instruction at this station.

The third station will be similar to the second but will work on a different skill set.

Upcoming Events of Interest / Go-Karting June 3rd
March 22, 2012, 08:48:17 PM
Fast Eddie and a bunch of the other Members that have karts will be at the Kart Track at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana on June 3rd.

If you have a kart, come on out for some fun.   Don't have a kart? Come on out and check it out.  They generally do have karts for rent there at the track.

This is a great way to really get a feel for car control.
