SoCal Club Members 2014 Car Control Clinic
October  4, 2014

: : : : : CLICK HERE TO BUY YOUR CCC TICKETS : : : : : (http://socalviper.com/events/ccc-2014/)The So Cal Viper Club will be returning back to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana California to utilize their huge parking lot to stage our Member's only Car Control Clinic sponsored by our Southern California Viper Club.   This has always been a very popular event for new members as well as long time members.   It is the ideal place to take your Viper out and push it to the limit to get a full understanding of what happens when you cross the threshold of tire traction and become a passenger trying to gain control of the Viper.

One again a  huge Thanks to Randy Tribolet for getting us set up again with the Team manager of Megan Racing.  Naoki Kobayashi.  They will be bringing out 3 of their instructors to help us learn the basics of Car Control through the lessons of Drifting.    " I know some folks are a little reluctant to burn up their street tires and for $50 they will let you take out their drift car and smoke em all you want. I spoke to Naoki today and he said that they would try to bring two rental cars this time. Also, their cars are set up for the drifting and a bit easier to control in a drift. It's a great way to get a feel for it. Last year, many of us rented the car first to get the feel and then took our vipers out afterward. I think that the best way to do it. They bring a truck load of tires and expect to go through some"  Randy.

Whether your goal is to learn how to full on drift your Viper or simply get the "feel" of  having the back end start to slide out and what to do to catch it, this is the ideal opportunity to come out and learn.

This year we will be focusing on Auto-x and this year it will likely have a few surprises in the course setup.

Glenn,
You might want to say something about the rental drift cars in the event description. I know some folks are a little reluctant to burn up their street tires and for $50 they will let you take out their drift car and smoke em all you want. They bring a truck load of tires and expect to go through some.
It's a blast!

That's a great thing to bring up Randy.  My tires were shot at that time last year, so I went ahead and attempted drifting. There is burnt and melted rubber seemingly permanently bonded to my car now.  For $50, I think I'll abuse their car.

Yes, we still have plenty of time.  The big blast announcement will be coming out soon.  This is by far the best Club event of the year to play and learn what your Viper can do.  Stay tuned and mark your Calendar. We will have plenty of shade and lot's of cool drinks for all.  October 4th 2014 8)

I know some folks are a little reluctant to burn up their street tires.  For $50 Megan Racing will let you take out one of their drift cars and smoke em all you want in the drift area. Lets all start committing now for the Car Control Clinic. Thanks 8)

That's great news Randy!  Gates open at 6 a.m. on Friday Oct 3rd for set up.  I'm planning to get there about that time and get started.  Anyone who would like to come out to help with the set up would be greatly appreciated. Lance and I are planning to make the Auto-X longer and faster this year.

Thanks to all that were involved for putting on a super fun event.  Now if I can just get that smell of burnt rubber outta my nostrils- or maybe it's actually the fragrance wafting over from the meat rendering plant upwind from us :o

Thanks again to everyone who worked so hard to make this event so enjoyable.

I think this is the best auto-x track I have ever been on.  It was wide enough that I could actually think about a line, and apexes had some meaning.  It was fast enough that I could learn to feel the breaking point at speed.   Most auto-x tracks are so tight that I feel like I'm just abusing my tires.

That food was great, and there was plenty of time in the shade to talk to people.

I'm already looking forward to next year!

What a fantastic day this turned out to be, thanks to everyone who made it out for this event!  It was a great mixture of old and new members, welcome to Guy Chandler and Duane & Carrie Davila!  We even had a few potential members stop by to check things out.

Steph & I are so very grateful to all of you who helped make the day so successful!  First off, thank you to Matthew Gross, Lance Kouchi and Randy Tribolet for meeting me at zero dark thirty Friday morning to design the layout for the club's largest Auto-X track to date.

Thank you as well to those of you who showed up early on Saturday morning to help us set up.  It was wonderful having Rob & Cathy Bucholtz run our registration table, and Gary & Melissa Belvedere, our Vice Presidents, act as our starter & timekeeper.  Your combined efforts allowed the whole process to run smooth.

Although the afternoon temperature was downright hot, we were blessed with a cool breeze in the morning.  I hope everyone had a good time attacking the course.  Congratulations to our Auto-X Winners.  Our 1st Place winner was Bruce Li with a time of 1.02.856.  2nd Place went to our Track Director Ben Kawata with a time of 1.03.152 and Justin Fujita came in 3rd with a time of 1.03.313.  Congratulations as well to Derek Short for winning this year's Cone Crusher Award!  "If you're not crushin' cones, you're driving way too slow!"

It looked like those of you who took advantage of the drifting sessions were having a blast burning rubber!  Thank you to Naoki and his entire team from Drifting 101, it was a pleasure working with them!  Congratulations to Randy Tribolet who won Best Drifter, and Guy Chandler as Most Improved Drifter.

Last, but not least, big thanks to all of you who stayed and helped us pick up!  Justin, Akemi & Mike Fujita picked up all the track cones with their beautiful truck and trailer setup while Eddie & Dylan Reinsma, Jay Morrissete, and Gary, Melissa & Jake Belvedere helped break camp and load up the truck.  Thanks to Eddie as well for his mechanical help to those who needed a professional technician.

Thanks again to everyone who attended!  We look forward to planning more events like this in 2015!

Cheers! Glenn & Stephanie
