Title: VIPER DAYS at Spring Mountain Oct 22, 23 & 24
Post by: ViperX on August 02, 2010, 10:08:52 AM
Hey Sidewinders,

As above, Viper Days aka NARRA will be running at Spring Mountain October 22, 23 and 24.  It sounds like they will be "rolling out the red carpet" for us once again.

They will have green (beginner), blue (intermediate) and white (advanced) run groups along with a race group.  Instruction is included for all green group drivers.  Drivers are timed and gridded according to lap times to minimize passing and maximize quality track time.  More details to follow.

NARRA is expecting a "sell out" so be sure to reserve your spot as soon as possible.  I signed up last week.

This will be the final two races of the season for the Viper Cup aka the ACR-X race series.

The races will be nationally televised on Versus.

Many of Dodge's executives are expected to be on hand for the festivities which will include a Friday test and tune day (for intermediate and advance drivers), a Friday night group reception, a Saturday night group dinner and Award Ceremonies on Sunday.

LODGING:  There are room blocks available at the following hotels:

Best Western (775) 727-5100
Saddle West (775) 727-5100

<17   I just booked all three days at the track.
Now I have to sweet talk Stephanie into bringing
her Coupe so we don't have to share a Viper.

         Glenn................  <13

Also F.Y.I.  I called Robert at NARRA and asked if Stephanie would
need a racing suit for the beginning group.  He said just long pants
and closed toe shoes.   Hopefully Spring Mountain is on the same
page on this call...................... And yup you need a  "Brain Bucket" .            <1

Hey Glenn, I just signed up as well.  Did you have a problem getting into any of the hotels?

How did the catch-can install go?  Send pictures!!!

The Nuggest is sold out, Best Western still has rooms, I just booked a non-smoking queen bed, handicap shower for $89.00 night.  If you're planning to go get the hotel ASAP or you'll be commuting from Vegas.  Alternatively I have a non-smoking bench seat in my van for $29.00/night. (Plus facility camping fee's)

renting a R.V. space at the track next to Mike  and pitch a pup tent on the Trailer.                ^8

Hey Cathy and Dan, Are there going to be any rooms blocked out for us at the new hotel at Spring Mtn?

I booked a room at the Best Western.  I think she said it was a non-smoking room.
Problem is that I have a conflict that weekend, so I'm not sure if I can go yet.

Hey Ben,

As it turns out, John the track owner decided not to build those units we talked about.  He's thinking about building more condos.  I was able to grab a few of their condos for the guys bringing their wives, but that's it (sorry Kobi, no dogs allowed here either).

Hey gang, this is a big event because we get to do Viper Days and watch the Viper Cup.  Plus you cant beat Spring Mountain for a track, not to mention the weather will be perfect.  Open the wallet, blow out the moths, and pull out the green.  This will be a great experience for all of us.  If you don't go, you will only wish you had. =17

Hey Sidewinders!

A challenge has been thrown at our ACR's from Vette loving forum guys, who say the ACR cant touch the ZR1 record at Spring Mountain  >r
I Hope one of you guys or gals can smash the ZR1 time while you are visiting SM...

This is from a Vette forum, that thread then migrated over to the VCA forum... As usual... LOL
The whole thread is about the Ring record, the ACR not being street legal... ZR1 is a tire change away from taking the Ring record... blah blah blah...

So just in case anyone pulls a great lap time... try to keep track of them.   <2

Here is the post

I will throw a challenge back to you. The ACR does not have the lap record at Spring Mountain. The best published ACR time is ~5 sec behind JJ's 1:40.X. For all those that think the ZR1 on equal tires can't even be close to the ACR, by all means, PLEASE take your stock ACR out to Spring Mountain and beat the stock tire ZR1 time by a significant margin (>1sec). On second thought, just beat the time. Go ahead, otherwise it is just words as you say. See two can play at that game.

Kala and others,

Michael von Quilich holds the sports car record lap times at Spring Mountian and has for quite some time in his 08 ACR, like a couple of years .....on both the 3.1 and 2.7 track configurations.

Would love to see some "vettes" come to Viper Days.  In fact, I've personally invited some supposedly "fast" guys in ZR1's and Z06's to join us.

We'll see how this goes.....

 Very IN..ter...esting

The guys on this vette forum think one of their members holds the track record @ SM...  >m

It was kinda funny that they didnt have the Ring record, they didn't have the Laguna Seca record... So they went for Spring Mountain...  <

I'll be interesting to see what Michael von Quilich has done  <11

Comparing lap times from the Nurburgring and Laguna Seca with Spring Mountain is a travesty. Let the Vette crowd have their record at Spring Mountain.  Seriously, it is Spring Mountain folks. >w

The car is ready to go.  Just need to get some fresh rubber.  Unfortunately, I will be in Stockton that weekend.  I am looking to play locally this month.  Perhaps Speedventures at WSIR this Sunday or Buttonwillow in a few weeks.

Jon,

Maybe Buttonwillow,

Trans broke in ACR.  Apparently 1st gear tooth broke and got into the second and third gear clusters at BW last time out and ruined all three gears.  Don't use 1st gear on track so not sure how this happened.

Trans is out, waiting on parts.

Will post if car is ready to go.

May not be ready for SM in two weeks.

Dan

PS  Bob Blizzard and Michael von Quilich may want to go to BW too.

3.1 miles is quite a large cart track.  150mph on the back straight way is too tight? Do you drive a Viper or a Caterpillar on the track?  >w

No tears here Pete. Don't think I mentioned any track config though. Certainly not 150 mph on 13CW, more like 25CW or 25 CCW. I won't get into a pi$$ing match with you Pete. Opinions differ.  What did Mr. Tee always say? "I pity the fool" Most would qualify Streets of Willow or Horsehthief Mile as Kart tracks for the Viper. Now, back to the video games where I run 1:15 in my Viper at Laguna Seca!   <11  See you at the track, hopefully you can give me a lesson on how to get it done.

Yep, I would never run at Streets of Willow, too tight and too much braking...BW has some great track layouts but the track itself is way too narrow...Look at Laguna or Big Willow for track width and BW falls short. Too bad... >o

Hey Chantel,

Welcome to the club!  Don't worry too much if you don't have experience on a road course, you picked a great event to gain experience, Viper Days/NARRA is second to none.  You will be paired with an instructor on Saturday and half of Sunday, you will be "grided" according to your lap times which will help give you and other beginners plenty of space.  Just remember to drive at the level you feel comfortable.

Be prepared to be in awe when you see Michael's "Garage Mahal".

Be sure to post when you intend to leave for Pahrump so that you can join a caravan

Caravan from Orange County.

A couple of us were thinking of leaving right after traffic on Friday .... say 9:30 from Spag's.

Is anyone else interested .... perhaps first stop in Fontana at our favorite gas station?

For those going later, I think Lance is leaving around noon.

What say ye .... Sidewinders!

Hey Bruce and others for Friday caravan,

About 10:30 AM I'll meet you at the first stop, the Chevron 12659 Foothill Blvd Rancho Cucamonga 91739. Leave there about 11:00.

If you all want to, we can stop at Carls Jr 2856 Lenwood Circle Barstow for lunch or go on to

Baker Chevron 72083 Baker Blvd Baker 92309.

Final destination Spring Mountain 3601 S Highway 160 Pahrump NV 89061.

Keep in mind that Friday traffic to Vegas is pretty heavy and Barstow was very busy around the 12:00 time frame.
If you can make it to Baker, I think that would be a good choice providing the bladder can make it.

I'm hoping to be on the road somewhere between noon and 1.  Justin will probably catch me in Baker.

Drive safe and bring your 2-way radios.

I'll be leaving hopefully at 9 am, if you guys are meeting @10:30 in RC, you'l probably catch me by Victorville or just past.

Let me know what you guys plan for lunch.  I don't disagree w/Lance about Barstow being busy at 12 noon, but,
all I remember about Baker is the super sized Chevron and the hole in the wall mexican joint across the street.

It's going to be a great weekeknd, low 70's, no rain!!!

Hi everybody,
I had a good time at the Spring Mountain event at Viper Days. I want to thank everybody who made this event a success. A special thanks to Scott, Dan, and Brent who helped to change my brake pads on my car after I completely burned them down to the metal in my last session. I wouldn't have been able to drive home if not for your help! >t

Peter, I will be waiting for my check in the mail for the brakes! Glad to know you made it home safely. Thanks for the fast laps in the Radical Brent!
I had a great time hanging out with the club even though I could not drive this time. I did get about 1100 photos of club members on the track and I'm in the process of uploading all of them. I will add links to the galleries once they are up. Here are the links below. Remember each link has about five pages so be sure and check all the pages for your photo. Also just click the download button on each page to get the photo, should be large enough to make a 16x20 print. I did some quick edits so if there are a few out of focus I apologize now. These may still be uploading for a while so don't try to download right away.

Ben,

Nice video, you figured out how to post, great!  That must have been the 1st session Sunday.  I saw a couple of things you do I'll need to try, entry to 2nd bus stop and up the rummble strips after the real slow turn.  I also got to trail brake that first left in the radical loop.  I never saw you on the track the whole weekend, let's try and grid close at Fontana, always like running with you!!

Chantel,

Nice to meet you.  Spend $500 on brake pads and SS lines so you'll feel and brake better, find a set of used 18" wheels ($1500-$2000) and get a new set of Kuhmo V-700's $1100 and you'll be fine and faster.  Keep trying to get more track time too.

Scott H,

You'll never drive my viper again unless you post some pictures of the the #52

To everyone that helped me with the trailer, etc,

thanks!  After 5 minutes of tennis last night I killed my right arm too.  Went to the Dr. today and got a shot of cortozone in both elbows!

See you at Fontana on Friday or at the Christmas Party,

Mike

Hmmm....sure sounds like Mike is setting precedence for Fonatana ALREADY !!   >l

Honest....you should start icing your elbow.  When my tendonitis acts up, I ice them 3 and 4 times a day.  Works for me, of course I'm a LOT younger than you  >w

Hey SoCal Vipers. Now is the time to make the move for the 2011 season for Viper Days.
California has already locked in March 25-27.   Now we have a opportunity  to bring back a second round
at Spring Mountain  in the Fall-Sept 2-4th.  The catch is,  it is up in the air who will get the
event - Spring Mountain or Texas.  We all have to let NARRA (Viper Days) know that the West Coast ROCKS!!

I am personally going to become the bug in the ear at NARRA.
More to come. Oh yea   G&S

HERE WE GO!

Quote from BJ Motors on the VCA site

"Thank you California and The Everts
NARRA and Viper Days Board members would like to thank all of the California and surrounding members for supporting our event at Spring Mountain this past weekend. Our 2011 schedule is looking exciting and we are scheduled to come back to California next year. Dan and Cathy are huge supporters and incredible people and we would like to send out a Huge Thank You to them and all the members.
What an incredible weekend! This has been an incredible weekend working with Dodge and are excited as we grow with the best car company in the world we welcome all to come out and experience a weekend with the largest family in the world....."
