HRE Performance Wheels - a very high end wheel manufacturer - has invited the SoCal Viper Club to tour their facility with their Sales and Engineering teams.  They will share with us their processes in making HRE wheels, answer technical questions and show us their new wheel designs.

FYI:  HRE is very anxious to work with Viper owners and last week HRE "borrowed" our 2006 VOI Special Edition Coupe for a photo shoot for their upcoming advertising campaign.  Man, the special lighting in the studio sure makes the car pop!

Jon B. at PartsRack will be offering all HRE Wheel Factory tour attendees special pricing on a set of new HRE wheels.  Jon can help with tires too and may be able to take your old wheels in trade.

HRE is located off Hwy 78 in Vista, CA.  The tour will begin at 10:00 AM.  HRE has graciously offered to provide coffee, donuts & bagels.  After the tour and Q&A, we'll then caravan to Longboarder Cafe on Coast Hwy for a good old fashioned juicy hamburger - or whatever...

Upcoming Events of Interest / May 5th - Bowling & BBQ
January 24, 2007, 05:18:58 PM
Bowling?  Why not!!!  Followed by a Member's BBQ

Our members, Anthony & Wanda Matranga, have graciously opened their doors to the Viper Club for a BBQ - but suggested we start with something a little out of the ordinary - a bowling competition (maybe convertibles vs. coupes - maybe its just for fun).  Anthony & Wanda (the very same members that print the SoCal Club's Review) would like to invite the club down to their neck of the woods.  First lunch along the way, then bowling at Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino in Indio, followed by a BBQ at Anthony's home in Palm Desert.

We'll be meeting at the various meeting points then head east.  In Rancho Mirage, we'll stop for lunch at Applebee's where we'll meet up with Anthony and others. Then head to Fantasy Lanes.

If you're interested in staying in the area for the night, Palm Desert has a Marriott Courtyard - and Palm Springs has just about everything.

It's on!  The annual grudge match between the Dodge Viper SRT10 and the F-16 Viper fighter jet is scheduled for March 23-25, 2007 at Luke Air Force Base near Phoenix, Arizona. The drag race takes place during the Luke Air Force Base air show and it's a great weekend of driving and flying excitement.

MORE VENOM ~ 600 hp of Venom!

Your first chance to see the 2008 Viper in action ~ the most powerful factory Viper yet.  By far!

This Show of Force includes the 2008 Viper and the Viper Competition Coupe - as both will drag race the Air Force "Viper" Fighter Jet F-16. The showdown is part of a weekend-long event taking place March 23-25, 2007, at Luke Air Force Base located just outside Phoenix, Arizona. Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the USAF, Luke has been selected for an expanded "Super Air-Show" program by the military coined "The Show of Force".

More than just fun for Viper owners this event directly impacts the lives of people on the base as the proceeds go to benefit the MWR  base charity fund.

Still need more?  This event is big time.  In 2005 there were 275,000 people that attended and saw the Viper Corral alongside some of the most impressive aircraft in the world.  And the VCA had VIP seating - right up front for the race - right next to the General's tent.

With all that is included for your registration this is the best value event of the year!

This is your chance to be the first to check out the new '08 Viper and see it in action, hang out with Viper friends, and support our troops. Whether you are flying in or driving, this event will give you a weekend of packed in fun.

The deadline for registration is Wednesday, February 28, 2007. Please fax the attached registration form to (248) 553-2138.
Your hotel reservation must be made separately with the Sheraton Crescent Hotel in Phoenix, AZ. Please contact them directly at (800) 325-3535. Make sure you tell them you are with the Viper Club to receive the special discounted rate of $169 per night, plus tax. All room reservations must be made by Friday, February 23, 2007.
Any questions? Call Viper Headquarters at 1-800-998-1110.

The Registration Form is attached.

Viper Days at Buttonwillow Raceway - The last time in Southern California this year...

This is not a "race", you will not trade paint with other Vipers.  This is a timed event; you'll drive at your own pace.  Following are options available for Friday, for Saturday and Sunday or for all three days; and a couple of comments from the rookies that attended February's Viper Days: click here for comments.

FRIDAY:  Do you want the thrill of driving your Viper on the track? Here's an opportunity to do just that!  Buttonwillow Raceway is a great rack for drivers of all skill levels.  There will be a Friday Test & Tune, put on by the Brian Angen Memorial Fund. The cost is $300 for the day, which is tax deductible (tax certificate given at the track).  There will be three run groups to accommodate driver levels.  FYI: Friday Test & Tune is separate from Viper Days.  Sign Up information at the bottom of this post (BAMF-EventForm-01-07.pdf)

FRIDAY: Curious about exploring the limits of your Viper (and yourself) on a track, but not sure how to get started? Then here's the class for you. (Open to non-Viper owners as well.) The school begins with classroom instruction on basic car control theory, taught by experienced performance-driving instructors. Then, you'll spend the morning out on the skid pad in school-provided cars, practicing the art of car control—threshold braking, skid recovery, car rotation—so you'll understand vehicle dynamics and what to do if you cross the limit of adhesion in your Viper.

After lunch, you'll be ready to go out on the track in your own Viper, accompanied by an experienced instructor, in lead/follow formation or in-car. They'll bring you up to speed on track driving—driving the line, where to turn-in, when to brake, when to apply throttle. You'll be part of the Brian Angen Memorial Foundation's Charity Track Driving Event, which is a low-key track event, so you can drive at the pace you're comfortable with.

It's the best performance enhancement you can get for your Viper. The techniques you'll learn will make you a safer, faster driver, no matter what car you're driving.

We encourage you to sign up for Viper Days on March 17th & 18th, at the same track, so you can spend more time practicing your new skills. Spectators and guests are welcome to observe and join us for lunch. Lunch is included with the event for students. Students must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license.

FRIDAY: The Viper Club of America Northern California Region invites you to attend a One Day Performance Driving School.

Space is limited to 18 drivers and will be reserved based on the first 18 to confirm their reservation with a check.  So get your checks in as soon as possible.  Last year the event was over sold and a second School was scheduled to allow all drivers to attend a school.  This year there will only be One School Date.

Three Driving Course options will be offered. A basic car control session and two advanced sessions.  Vehicle dynamics and behind-the-wheel instruction in a variety of vehicles; emphasizing car control.   The Program was developed to provide a fun and fast-paced learning environment. Understanding the performance limitations of your Viper as well as other vehicles will make you a better driver. The Driving School is for everybody, from the novice to the experienced driver, whether your focus is on accident avoidance, faster lap times around your favorite race track or you just want to enhance your daily commute.  This Course is discounted especially for the VCA of Northern California.
