Track Events / Re: Spring Mountain additional track
November 13, 2013, 03:08:15 PM
I drove a couple of parade laps on the new section a few weeks ago.  The curved hill section does seem a lot like the LS corkscrew.  I don't know that they plan to ever put the whole track together for a long track.  It seems that they are getting busy enough to utilize 2 tracks at once.  One for members and one for the driving school.   The Porsche club HPDE event leader (and also club member) said that it is getting harder and more expensive to get track time for outside events.  The owner was there and said that there are future plans for even more track.

Thanks for the photos, Scott.  Nice seeing folks again.     Damn, though, I left before they unloaded those trucks !   I was wondering what was inside.   I've yet to see a Gen V in person, and now I missed seeing a whole group of variations at once.   Well, out of my price range, anyway, but, one can dream.

The weekend was excellent except for a little leak that sent me home early.

Track Events / Spring Mountain additional track
September 13, 2013, 03:41:30 PM
Just an FYI, Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch has added a significant amount of track with 81 feet elevation change and what they call a "high speed spiral".(Probably not to tread on the term "corkscrew")  It was great when we were invited there previously, and I have gone independently quite a few times to run with the Las Vegas Porsche Club HPDE events held there several times a year. The new part is the right third including the right straight of the two parallel straights.   I suspect that using it in combination with the old section would take out a straight that the Viper guys enjoyed.

Track Events / Re: Thermal SoCal track now open.

Hopefully they will be like most of the other private club tracks which raise some extra money by renting out the track a few weekends a year to HPDE event groups.  I enjoy the variation of driving different tracks.

Signed up also. Thanks for the heads up Dan !

From last year's event and my weekend with SV at Chuckwalla last weekend, it sure seemed that it would be more convenient to have a transponder if they are pregridding by lap times again.   At both events they did take a verbal input on what your time was; but it wasn't too well organized for the non-transponder guys like me at Chuckwalla in a big run group.  Just an FYI.

I can't imagine anyone missing this opportunity !  I was hooked by the event there this past June; but didn't bring the Viper due to the sound issues.  This time I will make the extra effort to test the sound levels of my Viper and put my OEM exhaust back on if need be.

I will be there !  Reserve a burrito or fundido for me !  Loading up the car now and looking forward to getting it out the first time since summer started.

I saw that Garry Grant posted a video on Youtube of a 1.34.1  lap.  That was a just a bit faster than my best.  LOL.
It sure looked snooth, compared to what the in car video for the ACR track record run looked like.

Laguna Seca was probably one of the best times I have ever had at a track.  This place is so cool to just walk around and take in.   Being able to actually go out and drive it is a dream come true !

So true !!!!  Having the Viper there would have made it a perfect weekend; but, I really could not have had any more fun on track.  It was like being allowed to go on the big-boy roller coaster 70+ times in one weekend !   One day, I'm afraid that I might grow up and not be able to appreciate this kind of thing...  NOT.

Here is a video that captures the event as it actually happened - in my head.    http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=sPjM1m4MvcY&vq=large#t=0
Hey, same lines, same lap times, same exhilaration !!  (almost)

Definitely an excellent track !!  I will be there for sure !   The best part is that I get to wear a driver's suit and not look like poser racer-wannabee !  <1
