Francois Castaign and his wife will be driving in the Coronado Races.

Look him up in the pits and say hello.  Some of you may have met him in Salt Lake at VOI-11.

Francois is regarded as one of the "Four Fathers" of the Dodge Viper along with Lutz, Shelby, and Gale.  He was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame last year and was inducted into the Viper Club of America Hall of fame in 2008 for his Viper contributions, including point person on the GTS-R on the 1990's.

He drives a 1973 Chevron or 1970 Ford Escort RS and Marlies drives a 65 Alfa GTA

Thanks for the info Marv !   We'll definitely have to go say HI.

I'm going to leave the OC around 6:30 to be there when the gates open at 8:00.
I have corral passes which will get us into the special parking lot, but you still need to buy an admission ticket for the day.

A few of our members are running in the races and I want to go down and see them.
Andy Weiss will race his #42 Montoya Cup car and David Andrews will be in his famed "Red Lobster" Corvette.
Randy Begin will also be there along with a bunch of the San Diego members.

Andy did ok today in qualifying and stayed clear of the "action".  It was an interesting group and they took the nascar theme a bit too much to heart.  At least 6 cars were spinning and sliding off track.  A spin in the last turn before the front straight and cars rubbing - one going backwards into the concrete barrier in front of the grandstands.  true nascar style.

Francious does pretty well in his Ford Escort.  For a car under 2 liters the only ones in his group that turned a faster lap time were the three AC Cobras.  Francois must have the smallest motor in that group by far and was quicker than the Shelby Mustangs, etc.

I didn't see Dave or Randy.  Went by Randy's shop yesterday but he was already gone for the day.

Ran into Roger Morgan also.  He's in his motorhome at the far end of the grandstands.

The BMW drive course is pretty dull so don't waste your time if the line is long.

There are "ship tours"  I was told that it is on the carrier that osama was on before going overboard.

Hey Marv,
Sorry we missed you on Saturday.   Sunday was fun too.
I didn't get to stay down there very long though.

The other guys stayed for a while and had fun checking everything out.

Here are a few pics that I took.
