SoCal Viper Club Autocross and Drift Clinic
Saturday October 24, 2015

This year we're returning to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana for our annual Autocross and Drift Clinic. This has always been a very popular event for new and long time members.  The Speedway's huge Parking Lot 6 is an ideal place to take your Viper out and push it to the limit, gaining a full understanding of what happens when you cross the threshold of tire traction while learning to control it.

Thank you to our member Randy Tribolet for setting us up again this year with Naoki Kobayashi, team manager of Megan Racing. They are bringing 3 instructors to teach us the basics of car control through lessons in Drifting. Randy told us "I know some folks are a little reluctant to burn up their street tires. For $50 you can take out Naoki's drift car and smoke 'em all you want. They bring a truck load of tires and expect to go through some. They will try to bring two cars this year. Their cars are set up for drifting and a bit easier to control in a drift.  It's a great way to get a feel for it.  Last year, many of us rented the car first and then took our Vipers out afterward. I think that's the best way to do it."

Whether your goal is to learn how to full on drift your Viper or simply get the "feel" of having the back end slide out and what to do to catch it, this is the ideal opportunity to come out and learn.

Anyone have more details on the "drift school"? I'm curious to know how the event works, meaning do you get 1 run at it? 2?? 3?? Do you have an instructor with you?? I'm thinking of bringing the wifey and since she doesn't reach the pedals to the snake (fixed seat hehehe) I'm thinking the drift event would be a fun thing for her to do.
