Racing for ALS at Willow Springs
April 29, 2023
Screen Shot 2023-01-30 at 9.26.07 PM.png

A good friend reached out and invited me to this event.  I will be attending this as it is for a great cause and 100% of the donation goes to Help the Fight against ALS

Racing for ALS is, once again, branching out to the West Coast to bring to you Vince's Race at the "fastest road in the west",  Willow Springs International Raceway, Saturday, April 29th, 2023!

Since our race against ALS began when Dave was diagnosed in 2017, we have learned a lot about ALS and the needs of the ALS community. Therefore, this year all of our events, like Vince's Race, will support 3 different ways to help the ALS community. All 3 of these were chosen specifically by Dave from his research and experiences. They are the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI), Duke Neurology ALS Clinic, and our Patient Assistance & Van Program. Learn more about each of these and how we support them HERE!

Event Notes -

ON-TRACK Track Day/Event, drivers will have the opportunity to experience the main and iconic track at Willow Springs Raceway, informally called the "Big Willow", consisting of 9 turns. This layout is built for speed, but combines the speed with turns and elevation changes to offer a unique challenge.

OFF-TRACK: All participants will be provided with a midday lunch, in addition to a beer/social hour trackside on Saturday afternoon (see schedule).

** Driver's Perks -
Vince's Race Participants who donate/help us fundraise will receive –

Vince's Race event t-shirt

Complimentary lunch

Bonus beer/social hour trackside

Luis Vivar (LuVshots) is scheduled to be at Vince's Race to capture pictures of your car on track. The electronic files of those pictures will be a gift to you as part of the event!

The chance to help raise funds and make a difference in the lives of ALS patients by supporting our Triple Target Funding to Support the ALS Community.

Cost:  $325.00

Let's go out and represent the Viper Family and support a great cause !

A huge thanks to Dan Cragin at SPT for sponsoring this event.
The Lions Automobilia Museum is definitely a must see !

Walking thru the doors was like going thru a time portal which took you back in time to an era that will forever be remembered as one of the greatest times to be a car enthusiast.

We were so pleased to have these living legends join us for the day.  Paul Schley, Bill Bagshaw, Mark Schley and John Morton

Paul and Mark Schley are revered around the world for their record setting Lightening Bug which was the first VW Bug to run a 10 second quarter mile

Bill Bagshaw is a NHRA Hall of Famer that won his class at the last race at the Lions Drag Strip on 12/2/72

John Morton worked for Carrol Shelby, was a team driver with Ken Miles, is a 9 time LeMans driver AND drove the Viper for

Team Oreca in 1997 along with Justin Bell and Pierre Yver

The Schley brothers with legendary NHRA Top Fuel dragster driver Carl Olson who was there to share stories and history from this great era.

John Morton sharing some of his stories from his incredible history
So great that Bill brought him along for us to meet and spend some time with him.  His history includes time with all the greats like Carrol Shelby, driving along side with Ken Miles, Sharing the 97 LeMans Oreca Viper with Justin Bell and so much more.  Truly amazing gentleman and such an honor to meet him.

Equally impressed with having Rick Lorenzen - founder and owner of the Lions collection come out and spend time with us in his amazing facility.

The rest of the pictures i took are up on my site  https://www.kouchicentral.com

Thank you Mark and Paul for opening up your amazing facility for us to visit.  Your love and passion for cars, speed and sharing the history and stories was a treat for us all.

It was a beautiful day to be out in the Viper and getting to spend some time with the Schley Brothers was really cool.

Eddie and Max

Old friends from Viper Days reunited

The history and stories they had to share were so interesting, going back to their grandfather who was a pioneer in the casting of aluminum in the late 1800's to their mother who ate lunch 3 times a week with Albert Einstein.

The famed Lightning Bug

What a great day and look forward to hanging out with them again and hearing more great stories and history.
